One 32 year old man was trying to keep the peace was shot in the abdomen and sent to the hospital in critical condition. The suspect fled but later turned himself in and was released after questioning. Dukes lawyer says he was there to "resist Mr. Yiannopoulos’ message through principled protest.” and he was early activist against the Yiannopoulos event at the UW and posted a link to how forces had rallied against the Breitbart editor at other colleges where he has appeared. The shooter's facebook profile appears to support Trump, Breitbart and the National Rifle association, and he told police who have not charged him that he shot in self-defense. Leftist anti-Israel Tikkun activists and IWW global groups are backing the man who was shot, and posted a video claiming their protester was innocent but it shows the IWW running 25 feet to beat up the man in a yellow hat who is being held down by 4 other black-clad "protesters" before he fires a shot. Marc and Elizabeth Hokoana were identified as the Seattle couple charged with assault in the Jan. 20 shooting incident will now face trial. When internet hate-monger and Breitbart editor Milo Yiannopolous spoke on University of Washington’s campus on January 20th, numerous protestors and supporters were beaten and bloodied. One in particular, an antifascist medic helping people, was shot and is in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center as of this writing. In the wake of these events, students are now victim to internet harassment and threats from right-wing hate groups (that may or may not self-identify as such). In fact, I am one of them. Before leaving campus for Westlake around 4pm, most of us covered our faces to shield ourselves from right-wing supporters of Milo (some of whom belong to neo-nazi groups operating in Washington state). There were students of color, trans students, undocumented students, and students with disabilities that were specifically targeted and filmed by the aforementioned neo-nazis (many of whom are not affiliated with the university). University of Washington President Changes Story, Admits ...
Ana Marie Cauce, president of the University of Washington, has amended a previous statement where she claimed that protests at MILO’s event last night were largely peaceful. She now admits that multiple people were assaulted by protesters.
In an initial statement on the events that occurred outside MILO’s speech at the University of Washington, the president of the university Ana Mari Cauce stated that she was outraged that people would resort to violence in what was “otherwise a peaceful protest.”
Of course based on video evidence from Breitbart reporters, even before the shooting took place, the event last night was anything but peaceful. Below is a video of MILO’s cameraman being assaulted by anarchist protesters.
The University professor has now changed her initial statement and has condemned the violence by the protesters. The President has yet to offer an apology to MILO or his guests for the violent disruption to their event, and the change to the initial statement has not been acknowledged.
“You have likely heard by now about the events in Red Square on the Seattle campus last night in conjunction with protests against a talk by Milo Yiannopoulos — protests which were then joined by a large group coming from demonstrations downtown. I want to say very clearly: Violence has no place at our University and in our communities. It is heartbreaking that a man was shot and others assaulted during what should have been peaceful demonstrations. The gunshot victim is currently hospitalized, and we fervently hope for his full recovery.”

I don't know the law in Seattle, but it does appear that the Ability, Opportunity, Jeopardy and Preclusion were all valid in this case. Clearly that much larger man had the Ability to do grave bodily harm or even kill (the numbers only reinforce this). The opportunity is indisputable as the antifa was actively beating him. Jeopardy is typically the hard one, but he was being restrained and in the middle of a hostile crowd with at least two attackers right on him, so it is reasonable that he felt fear for his life. Preclusion in this case is probably not much of a factor as again, he was restrained by his attacker.
The only thing that may be suspicious here is that the guy in yellow may already have his gun out. It is very hard to tell but what is in his hand at 1:19? If that is his gun, then he may have been inciting and self defense goes out the window.
While it does appear that the guy in the yellow was valid in using self defense, he honestly failed the first tenant of don't get in these situation in the first place. I know people will say he had every right to be there and to non violently stand up for his political beliefs, but has anything constructive ever come from confronting opposing political beliefs in the street?

Clearly the guy with the Red bar crossed over 30 feet through the crowd to start a problem with the shooter and that he would have clearly had cause to be in fear of his life from the attacker and friends. Holy shit, he was ambush attacked that turned into 4 on 1 and was being held by his limbs in preparation of an ass beating. This was a fully justified use of force. And to the point of the 2nd amendment crowd, once the shot was fired the entire thug gang let go and scattered. Even the vocal encouragement of the inciting thuggalos gave way to stunned silence.

He is a member of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW). The group established a fund to support the victim’s medical and legal fees. It’s raised $42,000. I contributed and hope you will as well.

There has been a great deal of alt-right fake news concerning this incident. Some claim the shooting was directed against Yiannopolous and was some sort of left-wing conspiracy. This should lay that canard to rest.
Finally, the apologia offered by UW president Ana Marie Cauce explaining why she permitted this zoo on her campus is thoroughly unconvincing:
In the weeks leading up to the event, I received calls and emails from many who wanted this event canceled, some of which cited the potential for disruption and conflict. My team and I consulted extensively with UWPD and Seattle Police beforehand, and while no credible threats were received, I gave serious consideration to the calls and emails and consulted with legal scholars and the UW division of the Attorney General’s Office.So why did I allow the event to go on? First, there is the legal right of our student groups to invite speakers, even a controversial one whose message is anathema to many, including me. We are bound by the law. But beyond that, canceling the event would have sent the message that a risk of disruption or conflict can be used to overwhelm our rights. That would empower those on the extremes willing to resort to such tactics. And while canceling this event would have meant canceling a speech by someone whose views I personally find repulsive, the next time it could be a speaker whose views are more in line with mine, but anathema to someone else. Then there would be silence, with all the real discussion happening underground where arguments could not be examined, or critiqued openly.…This night did not define our day or our community.Here and across our country, yesterday showed us that our nation is fraught with deep divisions. But even as we are united in our pain after last night, I also hope we are united in our resolve to make the world safer and better. The UW must be a place where passionately expressed views can be aired, where we can argue about our differences in a manner that is respectful and informed, and where we also look for, and find, common ground. We all need that, especially now.
The title of her statement, “violence has no place in our democracy” is naive. She forgets Malcolm X’s classic statement: “violence is as American as apple pie.”
Yiannopolous essentially incited a riot before the event via Twitter. He almost gleefully advocates carrying guns on campus. Further, Cauce permitted a gun-toting lunatic and University alumnus to enter campus and shoot an unarmed protester, nearly killing him.

In some states it's illegal to protest in a mask - i.e. per New York Penal Law 240.35(4) it is illegal to congregate in public with two or more people while each wearing a mask or any face covering which disguises your identity. More state laws like this may help.

I like your sentiments, but actually doing that raises the complications of blowback: these brownshirts, with the MSM as their megaphone, will claim "persecution" and "violation of their 1st Amendment rights," just for starters, as their actual violence is downplayed and/or ignored. A good start is made with the arrest of the guy who wanted to stink-bomb the Deploraball.
I will be patient and trust DJT, Sessions, and Gen. Kelly. Remember that DJT is master of the long game, preparing groundwork carefully, setting up his players, then executing his plan. But yes, Ms Chrisie, I do hope he pulls the fangs on these wretched curs--one by one, and very painfully!

We can argue about the proliferation of government which again is the "progressive" modus operandi. The very idea of a bill of rights and constitution offends "progressives" because these things were put in place to purposely limit government. "Progressives" want unlimited government.

I would prefer the LEO's leave the masks on them until the reach room (or ambient) temperature. Then when the mask is removed everyone watching can say ..."I KNEW IT WAS HIM/HER ALL ALONG!!!

In some states it's illegal to protest in a mask - i.e. per New York Penal Law 240.35(4) it is illegal to congregate in public with two or more people while each wearing a mask or any face covering which disguises your identity. More state laws like this may help.

I like your sentiments, but actually doing that raises the complications of blowback: these brownshirts, with the MSM as their megaphone, will claim "persecution" and "violation of their 1st Amendment rights," just for starters, as their actual violence is downplayed and/or ignored. A good start is made with the arrest of the guy who wanted to stink-bomb the Deploraball.
I will be patient and trust DJT, Sessions, and Gen. Kelly. Remember that DJT is master of the long game, preparing groundwork carefully, setting up his players, then executing his plan. But yes, Ms Chrisie, I do hope he pulls the fangs on these wretched curs--one by one, and very painfully!

Man Arrested Following Shooting at UW Campus Demonstration
A 32-year-old man was seriously wounded by gunfire at a demonstration on the University of Washington’s campus Friday evening.
The shooting followed a day of largely peaceful marches and rallies in the city, which were unfortunately book-ended by acts of vandalism and violence.
Around 9:30 AM, an unidentified person threw a rock through the windshield of a Bellevue Police Department officer’s vehicle—which was assisting Seattle police in the Capitol Hill area.
SPD officers later seized wooden dowels, homemade shields, flares, hammers, and other items from masked individuals in the crowd during the evening rally at Westlake Park.
The Westlake group later marched to the University of Washington campus, where they joined with a second separate demonstration group outside the University of Washington’s Kane Hall.
Police had blocked the entrance to Kane Hall, which was holding a private event, due to scuffles and minor incidents of violence outside the venue. As the second group of marchers arrived on campus, tensions increased, and individuals in the crowd began throwing bricks and paint toward police and others in the crowd.
Police received a report that a man in the crowd had been shot and worked to enter the crowd and extricate him.
Officer removed the 32-year-old man from the crowd and found he had sustained a life-threatening gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
The person of interest in the shooting later turned himself in to University of Washington police. He is now being questioned about the incident.
