Shooting at Milo Yiannopoulos event at University of Washington

Shooting at Milo Yiannopoulos event at University of Washington --- ===

crime: shooting injured: 1 arrested: 1 Shooting at Milo Yiannopoulos event at University of Washington Friday, January 20, 2017 At Red Square at the University of Washington in Seattle as police confiscated weapons such as baseball bats and sharpened sticks on signs, masked protesters caused police to stop people from walking into the sold out Milo Yiannopoulos speaking event. One 32 year old man was trying to keep the peace was shot in the abdomen  and sent to the hospital in critical condition. The suspect fled but later turned himself in and was released after questioning.  Police helicopters and the FBI bomb squad had been deployed earlier in the evening, and pepper spray was used to control the crowd. Sources have identified the victim as Josh Dukes member of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) General Defense Committee, which describes itself as an “anti-racist and anti-fascist organization.”.  Dukes lawyer says he was there to "resist Mr. Yiannopoulos’ message through principled protest.” and he was early activist against the Yiannopoulos event at the UW and posted a link to how forces had rallied against the Breitbart editor at other colleges where he has appeared. The shooter's facebook profile appears to support Trump, Breitbart and the National Rifle association, and he told police who have not charged him that he shot in self-defense. Leftist anti-Israel Tikkun activists and IWW global groups are backing the man who was shot, and posted a video claiming their protester was innocent but it shows the IWW running 25 feet to beat up the man in a yellow hat who is being held down by 4 other black-clad "protesters" before he fires a shot.  Marc and Elizabeth Hokoana were identified as the  Seattle couple charged with assault in the Jan. 20 shooting incident will now face trial.  Prosecutors allege the two, both 29, had armed themselves — he with pepper-spray and she with a Glock semi-automatic handgun in a holster under her coat — and went to the protest intending to goad demonstrators they knew would be there. (Seattle Times)

Later identically costumed black block protesters launched fireworks, set afire a gasoline powered floodlight trailer and trashed the UC Berkeley student union and downtown bank ATM kiosks causing over a half million dollars in damage and causing a terrorist threat shelter in place response on the UC campus, but none of the attackers was arrested and only one was identified as a university worker.

Defendants at Yiannopoulos-speech shooting plead not guilty. Marc and Elizabeth Hokoana, a Seattle couple charged with assault in the Jan. 20 shooting incident on the University of Washington campus, will now face trial. Their attorneys have vowed to fight the charges on self-defense grounds. Read more. Seattle Times Elizabeth Hokoana pleaded not guilty to first-degree assault, with a firearm enhancement, stemming from the shooting; Marc Hokoana pleaded not guilty to third-degree assault over his alleged use of pepper spray.  Prosecutors had asked for $50,000 bail for each, saying they represented a potential danger to the community.  The judge barred the couple from possessing firearms and ordered them to keep away from the UW campus.  Prosecutors allege the two, both 29, had armed themselves — he with pepper-spray and she with a Glock semi-automatic handgun in a holster under her coat — and went to the protest intending to goad demonstrators they knew would be there.

Guest Editorial: Being harrassed in the wake of Milo Alan-Michael Weatherford Jan 27, 2017  (32)
Editor’s Note: Story includes vulgarity, anti-gay, and transphobic slurs.   When internet hate-monger and Breitbart editor Milo Yiannopolous spoke on University of Washington’s campus on January 20th, numerous protestors and supporters were beaten and bloodied. One in particular, an antifascist medic helping people, was shot and is in critical condition at Harborview Medical Center as of this writing. In the wake of these events, students are now victim to internet harassment and threats from right-wing hate groups (that may or may not self-identify as such). In fact, I am one of them. Before leaving campus for Westlake around 4pm, most of us covered our faces to shield ourselves from right-wing supporters of Milo (some of whom belong to neo-nazi groups operating in Washington state). There were students of color, trans students, undocumented students, and students with disabilities that were specifically targeted and filmed by the aforementioned neo-nazis (many of whom are not affiliated with the university). While the optics of a group of folks covering their faces might come across as threatening, we were left no other choice, provided that the University failed to protect its own population.

Admin Watch: The UW fails to explain Red Square shooting to campus community Rod Palmquist The Daily Feb 16, 2017  For the majority of UW community members, I would guess that students, staff, and faculty have largely been in the dark about the shooting that took place Jan. 20 in Red Square. I would similarly bet that most students do not know about the legal processes that are currently taking place as a result of this incident.   ...  Since Jan. 20, the UW community has received only two campus-wide emails from the administration that reference the Red Square shooting. In both of these communications, UW president Ana Mari Cauce writes eloquently about violence not having a place at our university, and recognizes the real concerns that UW community members have about safety on campus. ongoing nature of UWPD’s investigation is a real barrier to releasing information such as the identity of the Red Square shooter, or why charges have not been filed yet. Having said this, it would seem that the administration has implicitly assumed that the UW community understands why police cannot comment on ongoing investigations.

A confrontation between Trump supporters and anarchists and socialists began to heat up Friday night at the UW ahead of Breitbart editor Milo Yiannopoulos’ sold-out speech at Kane Hall, which seats 700 people.

University president calls protesters victims, blames violence on the shooter, not the protesting rioters that attacked him.

... [violent terrorist] protesters outside Kane Hall hurled bricks and other items at police officers, according to the Seattle Police Department. They also threw fireworks and paint.

Alex St. Hilaire, a student at Mariner High School, is attacked [by terrorists face splattered with blue paint] outside the University of Washington’s Kane Hall where controversial Breitbart editor Milo Yiannopoulos was scheduled to speak on Friday. S

victim was not a pro-Trump demonstrator there in support of Yiannopoulos. He was a Wobbly, or member of the Industrial Workers of the World, according to a statement issued Sunday by the pro-labor and socialist group.

Alex Franke, a University of Washington student and volunteer medic, was among the first to treat him.

This image shows the wounded man in black flanked by three other black bloc protesters, one with a medic bag, with faces covered with bandanas.

University of Washington President Changes Story, Admits ...

Ana Marie Cauce, president of the University of Washington, has amended a previous statement where she claimed that protests at MILO’s event last night were largely peaceful. She now admits that multiple people were assaulted by protesters.

In an initial statement on the events that occurred outside MILO’s speech at the University of Washington, the president of the university Ana Mari Cauce stated that she was outraged that people would resort to violence in what was “otherwise a peaceful protest.”

President of @UW issues statement after person shot at protest: "It is an outrage that anyone would resort to violence."
Of course based on video evidence from Breitbart reporters, even before the shooting took place, the event last night was anything but peaceful. Below is a video of MILO’s cameraman being assaulted by anarchist protesters.
The University professor has now changed her initial statement and has condemned the violence by the protesters. The President has yet to offer an apology to MILO or his guests for the violent disruption to their event, and the change to the initial statement has not been acknowledged.
“You have likely heard by now about the events in Red Square on the Seattle campus last night in conjunction with protests against a talk by Milo Yiannopoulos — protests which were then joined by a large group coming from demonstrations downtown. I want to say very clearly: Violence has no place at our University and in our communities. It is heartbreaking that a man was shot and others assaulted during what should have been peaceful demonstrations. The gunshot victim is currently hospitalized, and we fervently hope for his full recovery.”

Proof the shooter was the attacker? Looks like the bald guy ran for 30 feet to start attacking the guy in yellow hat, and was being harassed by a half dozen people.

Shooting of Antifa activist at UW during Milos Yiannopoulos protest, Seattle 20 Jan 2017

Published on Jan 22, 2017
This is an excerpt of a longer video shot by KOUW's Hassan Abdi at the protest against the appearance of Breitbart editor, Milo Yiannopoulos. An Antifa activist was shot after the shooter (in yellow hat) brandished a gun in the crowd. Though the shooter claims self-defense, the video doesn't support his claim.

Seattle Police have released him from custody. If you recognize this person, please contact me. His identity has not been revealed, but should be.

Decent parents would have taught you that turn about is fair play.

Uhm, you have video evidence of a thug in a jacket attacking someone from behind and getting shot for it.  That's called self defense.  Thank you for proving that to the world and make yourself a jackass to the world.
Reply 21
Doesn't support his claim? How do you figure? That was clearly self-defense. That antifa thug in the jacket attacked him and kept attacking him.  If it was the man in the yellow hat that shot him he was clearly within his rights to do so.

DaveKytver thanks.  I just made my first video about Antifa and am planning to make more.  I am a busy guy but I am making time for this fight, getting involved in groups that support the president with various strategies.  There is more at stake here than most people realize.  We are on the verge of a global financial meltdown designed to beat us into submission to globalist scum like Soros.  Trump is our last hope of fighting back.

I don't know the law in Seattle, but it does appear that the Ability, Opportunity, Jeopardy and Preclusion were all valid in this case.  Clearly that much larger man had the Ability to do grave bodily harm or even kill (the numbers only reinforce this). The opportunity is indisputable as the antifa was actively beating him. Jeopardy is typically the hard one, but he was being restrained and in the middle of a hostile crowd with at least two attackers right on him, so it is reasonable that he felt fear for his life. Preclusion in this case is probably not much of a factor as again, he was restrained by his attacker.

The only thing that may be suspicious here is that the guy in yellow may already have his gun out. It is very hard to tell but what is in his hand at 1:19?  If that is his gun, then he may have been inciting and self defense goes out the window.

While it does appear that the guy in the yellow was valid in using self defense, he honestly failed the first tenant of don't get in these situation in the first place. I know people will say he had every right to be there and to non violently stand up for his political beliefs, but has anything constructive ever come from confronting opposing political beliefs in the street?

Clearly the guy with the Red bar crossed over 30 feet through the crowd to start a problem with the shooter and that he would have clearly had cause to be in fear of his life from the attacker and friends.   One more reason to get rid of Gun Free Zones because that is the only real leg they have to stand on, not that a jury would probably convict him even in Seattle....

Marc K. Hokoana, age 29, a known pro-gun activist, can be seen in video and still photographs at the scene shooting a protester. Hokoana is originally from Lacey, WA ... January 24, 2017 By Richard Silverstein 12 Comments NOTE: After I asked Daniel Berman, the photographer whose photo of Marc Hokoana at an Olympia gun rally I pictured here, for permission to use this image, he demanded that I remove it. I did so as soon as I read his demand. The image is located here for viewing. It depicted Hokoana decked out in what appears to be hunting gear carrying what appears to be an assault rifle at an Olympia Guns Across Ameria rally. I regret that Berman refused permission to feature this important photograph here as a public service. But he owns the copyright and has the right to make such a demand. Berman appears to harbor alt-right sympathies himself as you can see from this tweet he published in which he claims falsely that reporting Hokoana is suspected of critically wounding UW employee Josh Dukes, is libelous.

Hokoana with his wife in Red Square, before the incident Marc K. Hokoana, age 29, a known pro-gun activist, can be seen in video and still photographs at the scene shooting a protester. Hokoana is originally from Lacey, WA and graduated from Timberline High School in 2006. He is also a UW alumnus. At Researchgate.net he declares an academic interest in biology and physiology. He lives in Lacey currently.  Eyewitnesses who saw him that night told me he was aggressively provoking protesters and appeared intoxicated. He appears in a photo that evening accompanied by a woman. He recently married Elizabeth Freeland, who appears to be the same person seen that night.  The Seattle Times identified the victim as Josh Dukes, a computer security engineer on campus. He is a member of the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW). The group established a fund to support the victim’s medical and legal fees. It’s raised $42,000. I contributed and hope you will as well.

eview of Hokoana’s online presence indicates he or his family has Hawaiian roots.  On Facebook, he Likes Donald Trump, Breitbart News and Breitbart editor, Ben Shapiro.  At the Guns Across America rally at which he was pictured, he told Daniel Berman:
“It’s important to have this exposure and for the public to see people with guns that don’t fit the stereotype of old white racists who own guns.”
There has been a great deal of alt-right fake news concerning this incident.  Some claim the shooting was directed against Yiannopolous and was some sort of left-wing conspiracy.  This should lay that canard to rest.
Finally, the apologia offered by UW president Ana Marie Cauce explaining why she permitted this zoo on her campus is thoroughly unconvincing:
In the weeks leading up to the event, I received calls and emails from many who wanted this event canceled, some of which cited the potential for disruption and conflict. My team and I consulted extensively with UWPD and Seattle Police beforehand, and while no credible threats were received, I gave serious consideration to the calls and emails and consulted with legal scholars and the UW division of the Attorney General’s Office.
So why did I allow the event to go on? First, there is the legal right of our student groups to invite speakers, even a controversial one whose message is anathema to many, including me. We are bound by the law. But beyond that, canceling the event would have sent the message that a risk of disruption or conflict can be used to overwhelm our rights. That would empower those on the extremes willing to resort to such tactics. And while canceling this event would have meant canceling a speech by someone whose views I personally find repulsive, the next time it could be a speaker whose views are more in line with mine, but anathema to someone else. Then there would be silence, with all the real discussion happening underground where arguments could not be examined, or critiqued openly.
…This night did not define our day or our community.
Here and across our country, yesterday showed us that our nation is fraught with deep divisions. But even as we are united in our pain after last night, I also hope we are united in our resolve to make the world safer and better. The UW must be a place where passionately expressed views can be aired, where we can argue about our differences in a manner that is respectful and informed, and where we also look for, and find, common ground. We all need that, especially now.
The title of her statement, “violence has no place in our democracy” is naive.  She forgets Malcolm X’s classic statement: “violence is as American as apple pie.”
Yiannopolous essentially incited a riot before the event via Twitter.  He almost gleefully advocates carrying guns on campus.  Further, Cauce permitted a gun-toting lunatic and University alumnus to enter campus and shoot an unarmed protester, nearly killing him.

Bubble Gum pseudo-Rebels And George Soros Unite Against Golden Dawn Posted by xaameriki on November 1, 2012  Being a Leftist is awesome. You can feel edgy and rebellious by attacking system approved targets like Golden Dawn, while never really risking anything like your employment or physical well-being. An additional perk to being on the “right side” is getting lots of pats on the back and validation (the real motive of Communists, Anarchists and the violent branch of Liberalism) from the bloated media monopoly you claim to fight! Little risk-big reward.  The typical M.O. of a self-proclaimed “Anti-Fascist” is to search a major newspaper, find out whose rocking the boat that’s anywhere to the right of Rosa Luxembourg, then go to disrupt their exercise of free speech and assembly by breaking a few things and constantly repeating tired baseless mantras like “NAZIS! FASCIST RACISTS MURDERERS!” until they become true in their fragile, MTV polluted minds. But the childish antics don’t always stop there, often times the actions of George Soros funded “ANTIFA” around the world culminate in  unprovoked violence and terrorism.

The tactic of “ANTIFA” is to recruit from squats and drug dens, then use these low-lives to commit unprovoked violence against anyone they deem too politically incorrect. Anyone who disagrees in any shape or form with the radical communist and anarchist doctrine of ANTIFA, is a possible target of their bombings, assaults, and murders. Overall however, ANTIFA in  Greece, is losing the support of the young people to Golden Dawn, to the point where for once, now they are outnumbered!

Instead of denouncing violence, as most legitimate groups do, ANTIFA revels in it, freely without any pressure from law enforcement or prosecutors. During the Tinley Park attack,  ANTIFAs networked using their main websites to coordinate an attack on a group of people getting together to talk about politics ANTIFA did not like.

We can argue about the proliferation of government which again is the "progressive" modus operandi. The very idea of a bill of rights and constitution offends "progressives" because these things were put in place to purposely limit government. "Progressives" want unlimited government.

In some states it's illegal to protest in a mask - i.e. per New York Penal Law 240.35(4) it is illegal to congregate in public with two or more people while each wearing a mask or any face covering which disguises your identity. More state laws like this may help.

I like your sentiments, but actually doing that raises the complications of blowback: these brownshirts, with the MSM as their megaphone, will claim "persecution" and "violation of their 1st Amendment rights," just for starters, as their actual violence is downplayed and/or ignored. A good start is made with the arrest of the guy who wanted to stink-bomb the Deploraball.

I will be patient and trust DJT, Sessions, and Gen. Kelly. Remember that DJT is master of the long game, preparing groundwork carefully, setting up his players, then executing his plan. But yes, Ms Chrisie, I do hope he pulls the fangs on these wretched curs--one by one, and very painfully!

Man Arrested Following Shooting at UW Campus Demonstration

A 32-year-old man was seriously wounded by gunfire at a demonstration on the University of Washington’s campus Friday evening.
The shooting followed a day of largely peaceful marches and rallies in the city, which were unfortunately book-ended by acts of vandalism and violence.
Around 9:30 AM, an unidentified person threw a rock through the windshield of a Bellevue Police Department officer’s vehicle—which was assisting Seattle police in the Capitol Hill area.
SPD officers later seized wooden dowels, homemade shields, flares, hammers, and other items from masked individuals in the crowd during the evening rally at Westlake Park.
The Westlake group later marched to the University of Washington campus, where they joined with a second separate demonstration group outside the University of Washington’s Kane Hall.
Police had blocked the entrance to Kane Hall, which was holding a private event, due to scuffles and minor incidents of violence outside the venue. As the second group of marchers arrived on campus, tensions increased, and individuals in the crowd began throwing bricks and paint toward police and others in the crowd.
Police received a report that a man in the crowd had been shot and worked to enter the crowd and extricate him.
Officer removed the 32-year-old man from the crowd and found he had sustained a life-threatening gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.
The person of interest in the shooting later turned himself in to University of Washington police. He is now being questioned about the incident.
