Plainview, Texas. Last week police arrested two boys, aged 16 and 17,
who they said had used information from the Internet to build bombs
powerful enough to destroy mailboxes and to blow a pay telephone off the
wall of a convenience store.

Orange County, Calif. Police said four boys aged 15 and 16 confessed
last week they crafted six acid-filled bottle bombs from information
gleaned from postings on the Internet. One of the bottle bombs injured a
5-year-old boy who found it on an elementary school playground. Last
month, custodians at a high school in Huntington Beach, Calif., found
similar devices on two occasions.

Manlius, N.Y. On Feb. 2, authorities said three 13-year-old boys were
arrested by police and charged with plotting to set off a homemade
fertilizer-and-fuel oil bomb at Pine Grove Junior High School. A
experimental bomb they built burned but didn't explode when they tested
it in an elementary school playground, police said.

Providence. On Feb. 4 a high school student was arrested when police
seized a foot-long pipe bomb they said he had assembled using a recipe
he found on the Internet.

Eastpointe, Mich. On Valentine's Day, a 17-year-old was arrested for
allegedly constructing a homemade pipe bomb that damaged telephone lines
inside a steel connection box and punshed holes in a garage door hundred
of feet away.

Shawnee, Kan. Last month, two ninth grade students were suspended from
school after a gasoline bomb they built from a recipe one obtained via
his home computer burned a 10-acre field adjacent to their school.

Philadelphia area. Police said two boys aged 15 and 16 were injured in
January in the explosion of a pipe bomb they were building in their
basement from instructions they found on the internet.

Jackson Township, N.J. School officials called meetings of students and
parents in January after finding that five seventh- and eighth-grade
students had downloaded the Terrorist's Handbook from the internet and
distributed it on diskette at McAuliffe Middle School.

Exeter, N.H. On April 4, the principal of the junior high school found
in a school locker a pipe bomb he said was built by a 12-year-old and
sold to another 12-year-old for $5.
