On April 16, 2017, 74-year-old Robert Godwin, Sr. was shot and killed while walking on a sidewalk in Cleveland, Ohio. The suspect was identified as 37-year-old Steve Stephens, who posted video of the shooting on his Facebook account. Stephens is wanted on a warrant for aggravated murder.

The shooting happened at around 2 p.m. EDT on April 16, 2017 in the area of 635 East 93rd Street in Cleveland's Glenville neighborhood. The shooter uploaded a video of the event, in which he proclaims "Found me somebody I'm about to kill." before exiting his car and accosting Godwin. He orders Godwin to say "Joy Lane" - the name of Stephens' ex-girlfriend - then announces "She's the reason this [is] about to happen to you." Stephens then shoots Godwin in the head, returns to his car and drives off as screams are heard in the background.[1][2] Facebook said the video was uploaded to the website, not livestreamed as initially reported.[3] In other Facebook posts, Stephens claimed responsibility for 13 murders, but police said they were not aware of any other victims.
Manhunt[edit]
A search for Stephens began soon after the shooting, prompting lockdowns at a number of locations, including Cleveland State University.[4] The manhunt expanded to other states on the morning of April 17. Residents in Pennsylvania, New York, Indiana and Michigan were asked to be on alert.[5] An arrest warrant was issued on a charge of aggravated murder.[6]
Suspect[edit]
Stephens worked at Beech Brook, a behavioral health agency for children and families. He was wearing his work ID badge and repeatedly mentioned Beech Brook in videos on the day of the murder.[7]

Police said Steve Stephens shot 74-year-old Robert Godwin in the city’s Glenville neighborhood at 2 p.m. — uploading the video with the title “Easter day slaughter.” He said in subsequent videos that the sick killing was an act of revenge directed at his girlfriend, Joy Lane.
Filmed from the shooter’s perspective and allegedly posted to Facebook by Stephens, 37, under his account “Stevie Steve,” the footage shows the gunman walking up to Godwin and asking, “Can you say ‘Joy Lane?’ ”

The video was removed from Facebook after three hours, and Stephens’ Facebook page was also deactivated — but not before videos he filmed of himself blaming others for the bloodshed began circulating online.
“I shamed myself. I snapped dog, I just snapped … I killed 13 mother f–kers man. I’m going to keep killing until they catch me, f— it,” he said.

Police, on an urgent manhunt to find Stephens, were searching vacant homes in the area for any additional victims, according to Cleveland.com. They had yet to find additional victims.
Authorities said Stephens is bald, 6-foot-1, 244 pounds, sporting a full beard and wearing a dark striped polo shirt.
He was last seen in a white Ford Fusion. Police said residents of Pennsylvania, New York, Indiana and Michigan should be on alert for the fugitive killer.

“The love of my life … We’ve been together three years. We were supposed to get married,” he said.
“She’s the reason why what’s happened today.”
Stephens alluded to developing a gambling problem during the strained relationship and “losing everything.”
Lane could not be reached. Cleveland.com reported she was in protective custody and cooperating with police.
In a text to CBS News, she said she prayed for the victim.
“Steve really is a nice guy… he is generous with everyone he knows. He was kind and loving to me and my children. This is a very difficult time for me and my family,” she wrote.
The mother of Stephens, Maggie Green, told CNN that he told her he was killing people because he was “mad with his girlfriend.” She had urged him to stop shooting people, she said.
After the shooting, Steve Stephens recorded videos to express his desire to keep killing as an act of revenge against his girlfriend.

“If Steve has an issue, then he needs to talk to some folks to get that resolved,” Williams said, suggesting the wanted man contact local clergy and avoid more bloodshed.
He cautioned that Stephens, wanted for a charge of aggravated murder, was armed and dangerous.
On Facebook, he said he was a caseworker for the behavioral health agency Beech Brook, even flashing the ID card he wore around his neck during the shooting.
On Twitter, a post from Stephen’s family said they had disowned him.
“We absolutely do not condone this type of behavior and this atrocity, therefore we do not consider Steve a part of this family,” the family said.

A horrific murder was streamed on Facebook and the killer is still on the loose in Cleveland. He vows to kill more.

Cleveland Police named the suspect as Steve Stephens, who claimed on Facebook “to have committed multiple other homicides which are yet to be verified.” He is considered armed and dangerous and civilians are advised not to approach him. Authorities believe he may be driving a white or cream-colored SUV. Sources told FOX8 the vehicle was a Ford Fusion with temporary tags.
The Sunday shooting occurred just south of Interstate 90 in the Glenville neighborhood. Stephens also posted another video of himself talking on the phone about at least 13 other alleged murders he says he’s committed. He said at one point he “messed up.”
“And I’m about to keep killing until they catch me,” Stephens said, according to NBC.
