Ahmed released on hostage. After he told police he would kill the hostages, police stormed the bank, and shot two hostages killing one and the other died in the hospital. Authorities did not make any connection to his Facebook endorsement of Islam or terrorism. He blamed his ex-girlfriend's family for their breakup and had placed a device of some kind in his head. He had been interviewed by Homeland Security about a picture of him posing with an AK-47 assault rifle in Yemen on Facebook but he denied any ties or beliefs in terrorism. An official police investigation determined he acted as a lone gunman with no ties to terrorism, but counterjihad pundits believe that the media and government whitewashed his obvious affinity for Islamist terrorism and associated mental illness and electronic conspiracy theory cover stories.
