(Reuters) November 27, 2015, a gunman attacked a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs, Colorado.[1][2] A police officer and two civilians were killed; five police officers and four civilians were injured.[3][4] After a standoff that lasted five hours,[1][5] police SWAT teams crashed armored vehicles into the lobby and the attacker surrendered.[6] The attacker, Robert Lewis Dear, Jr., was taken into custody and charged three days later with first-degree murder and ordered held without bond. At a December 9 court appearance, Dear repeatedly interrupted proceedings, made statements affirming his guilt (although he did not enter a formal plea), and expressed anti-abortion and anti-Planned Parenthood views, calling himself "a warrior for the babies." He appeared in court again on December 23, and asserted his desire to act as his own attorney in the criminal case against him. The judge ordered a mental competency evaluation to assess whether Dear is sufficiently competent to exercise his right to do so. Following subsequent evaluations that determined Dear to be delusional, the judge in the case ruled in May 2016 that Dear was incompetent to stand trial and ordered him indefinitely confined to a Colorado state mental hospital.

Officer charged in Castile shooting MPR news  St. Paul · Nov 16, 2016 Ramsey County Attorney John Choi announced Wednesday that he has charged police officer Jeronimo Yanez in the July 6 killing of Philando Castile during a traffic stop in Falcon Heights... "I know my decision will be difficult for some in our community to accept, but in order to achieve justice we must be willing to do the right thing no matter how hard it may seem," Choi said while announcing the charges.  Castile, a 32-year-old school cafeteria supervisor...
Minnesota law justifies the use of deadly force by a police officer, Choi said, only when it's necessary to protect the officer or others from great bodily harm or death. He said the use of Yanez's use of force was not justified.  Yanez signaled to another officer that he was pulling Castile's car over because his "wide-set nose" matched the description of a robbery suspect...Castile handed over his insurance card and "calmly" told Yanez that he had a firearm. Girlfriend wants murder charges: there was no provocation: Castile's girlfriend, Diamond Reynolds, who was a passenger in the car. She said that Yanez shot Castile several times while he reached for his ID, and that Castile had told the officer he had a legal gun permit and was armed.... Larry Rogers Jr., Reynolds' attorney, said her account of Castile's killing warranted more harsh charges against Yanez. "We do believe they supported murder charges because there was absolutely no provocation on the part of Philando," Rogers said, "absolutely no provocation to justify what happened."

October 28, 2016 Teacher: Girl killed in Southern Pines shooting 'brought a bit of life to the classroom'  Police: Man arrested after bystander shooting in Southern Pines kills 1 child, injures another man was arrested overnight for his connection to a drive-by shooting that killed one child and injured another Friday afternoon.  Authorities arrested 20-year-old Malik Rashad Crawford of Aberdeen Saturday for his connection with the shooting. Crawford faces charges of accessory after the fact of murder. Arrest warrants are out for another suspect.. 12-year-old Jalinda Campbell was shot in the chest while standing outside an apartment complex (she WAS the target if they missed "intended" target)

Traffic had snarled. The victims stopped along with everyone else. The suspect car did not. The state patrol says the 21-year-old driver never put her foot on the brake. The cruise control was still on. She slammed right into the victims' car at 77 mph.Good friends Jody Bagnariol and Lis Rudolph died from their injuries the next day. .. chose to take a cell phone out in a car, pose for a 'selfie' .. no proof that caused the crash. ...prosecutor says it doesn't meet the legal requirement of 'criminal negligence', ...  somebody can take two lives in any state, but in Washington state and walk away with a $550 ticket,"

Feb 21, 2016 shooting by police Activists call for answers about fatal shooting of couple by Inglewood police Los Angeles Times A group of clergy members and activists demanded answers Wednesday from the city of Inglewood about why police officers fatally shot a couple found unconscious in their car earlier this year.  Feb. 21 shooting of Kisha Michael, 31, and Marquintan Sandlin, 32, other than to say in a brief news release that officers came across the couple as their car was idling in the middle of the road at the intersection of Inglewood Avenue and Manchester Boulevard shortly after 3 a.m. The officers saw that Michael had a gun and ordered the couple to exit the vehicle before the shooting occurred, the department’s statement said.
