He told police that the boy would not stop crying after being given milk because of lactose intolerance, so in panic he dismembered the boy and hid the parts in a lagoon. The severed head of the boy was found in a lagoon, and the rest of the body was found when it was drained by police. It is not clear when Kyrian was last seen but it was believed to be mid-August, 2015, and his mother did not call police about a missing boy until September 17, 2015.

INFORMATION RELEASE – KYRIAN KNOX ROCKFORD, IL – ROCKFORD, IL – The Rockford Police Department held a media briefing today regarding the
case of missing two-year-old, Kyrian Knox. Kyrian is described as an African-American male,
approximately 30 inches tall, 35 pounds, with low cut black hair and brown eyes.
On Thursday, September 17, 2015, officers from the Rockford Police Department responded
to a call regarding a missing boy. It is not clear at this point when Kyrian was last seen but it
is believed to be mid-August, 2015. Kyrian was in the care of a family friend, prior to his
disappearance. There is no evidence to support the belief that he was abducted. Rockford
Police Detectives immediately contacted Kyrian’s mother, Lanisha Knox, and inquired about
Kyrian. Detectives worked throughout the night interviewing friends and family and his
information was entered as a missing child in the national database.
Rockford Police, aware of the investigation regarding the discovery of a young child’s body
parts in a Chicago park lagoon, contacted the Chicago Police Department on Thursday,
September 17, 2015, to advise that Kyrian was reported missing from Rockford. DNA samples
from Kyrian’s mother, Lanisha, have been provided to both the Rockford and Chicago Police
Departments and have been sent for processing.
