He was a real estate agent who was trained marksman who had worked for 30 years as a Texas constable and taken law enforcement courses as recently as 2017. After the shooting, Pappas transferred a deed from for his house which owed $4,409 in back taxes to a woman in Painsville who was told by Pappas that he had a terminal illness, but later got a text he was committing suicide and gave her instructions on how to secure the house. Evidence indicated Pappas put a lot of planning and showed an extreme interest in the doctor as nothing else looks like an explanation. His phone number later showed up as a Houston seller on a gun auction site where he might have been trying to sell several guns, ammunition, tactical vests and ballistic plates for car doors. though it was unclear if any of the firearms listed online were used in the shooting (4)
