Suzie Dawson didn't set out to be an activist, but her involvement with the Occupy movement at the start of the decade led her to nut out and articulate her political perspective, and to the realisation that if walking your own talk makes you an activist, she fit the descriptor. The path also led her to begin an impressive career as a citizen journalist, highlighting abuses of power on the part of the NZ government that led to their targetting of her through surveillance, intimidation and direct threats on her life. Another case of harassment was against Suzie Dawson, an independent journalist from New Zealand. Suzie has garnered some powerful enemies after reporting on the Occupy movement, WikiLeaks, the FBI and the Kim Dotcom saga. Dawson says she was targeted by the New Zealand and American intelligence agencies.
Suzie makes this statement regarding what motivates her activism.
“In New Zealand I have seen first-hand how the ‘Five Eyes’ alliance has economically, politically and militarily compromised my country to the detriment of our citizens. I have committed my life to exposing its corrupt agenda, working to prevent the degradation of the national sovereignty of all countries whose resources they covet.”
