April 11, 2018  Luis Velasquez-Ortiz illegal driver hit and runs kills motorcycle rider   Luis Velasquez-Ortiz drove a Ford Explorer through a stop sign, hit motorcyclist Juan Moreno-Tamayo, who died at the scene, but instead of stopping hit the gas and ran. Suspect  is illegal immigrant from Guatemala with record of felony convictions for driving under the influence and possession of a controlled substance. He was later located and booked Thursday afternoon on a felony arrest warrant for leaving the scene of an accident involving serious bodily injury or death.

4/16/2018 OMAHA, Neb. (KMTV) - The man who police say is the hit and run driver who killed a motorcycle rider in South Omaha last week faced a judge for the first time since his  arrest.Investigators say he's here in the United States, illegally from Guatemala.  early Wednesday morning, Velasquez-Ortiz was driving a Ford Explorer at 32nd and Q and went through a stop sign, colliding with motorcyclist Juan Moreno-Tamayo, who died at the scene. Velasquez-Ortiz then drove away, appearing to run over Moreno-Tamayo's body in the process.

Prosecutors say Ortiz has been living in Omaha for 15 years and worked at Nebraska Beef.
