01/16/2018  Semi Truck Crashes Into School In Lyle Minnesota On a day with snow on the road, a semi truck driver says he could not slow down for a car stopped to turn, so he clipped the back and out of control, drove his truck skidding across the field into the wall of a school. The cab went entirely inside the building. Students were evacuated into nearby church. Because of icy driving conditions It appeared to be an accident, not a deliberate attack, but the driver had 16 previous violations. In May 2018 Jeffrey Krohls of Plato Minnesota, the driver of the semi, was the one charged because he was driving too fast for the conditions. The roads were icy at the time of the crash

Authorities say Kohls, from Plato, Minnesota.. ear-ended a passenger vehicle before hitting the school Tuesday morning. Authorities said Kohls had a hard time slowing down when the passenger vehicle was turning.

Four people, two in the school and two in the passenger vehicle, were injured.
MnDot said that Highway 218 South could have been slick the morning of the accident. The school is located about 100 yards from Highway 218, a busy road that connects north Iowa to Austin, Minnesota.  The Minnesota State Patrol says it could take 30 days to complete the investigation.
