Suspects[edit]

The Ma'an News Agency named the two suspects as Yousif Khaled Kmail, and Mohammed Zeyad Abu al-Rob. On Friday, 6 October, Israeli Defense Forces searched the homes of both suspects in Qabatiya. Protests erupted in Qabatiya during the searches of suspects homes.[13]

Victim[edit]

Shmerling, was married to his wife Chana,[14] was a father of 4, and owned a coal business.[15] A total of 1,200 people attended his funeral.[16] On October 15, Shmerling's family was visited by Israel's President Reuven Rivlin.[14] Two days later they were visited by Israeli Arabs, including Kfar Qasim mayor Adel Badir and MK Issawi Frej, and Jewish MK Nissan Slomiansky.[17]

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wore on his facebook page that "we will do everything to bring to justice those who committed this shocking murder."[18]

Reuven Shmerling recognized as victim of terrorism

The Defense Ministry announced that it had decided to recognize Reuven Shmerling, who was murdered on the eve of the last Sukkot holiday in Kafr Qasim, as a victim of terrorism.

The decision was made by the senior deputy to the defense attorney, Yedidya (Didi) Oron, on the basis of the findings of the Shin Bet interrogation, which indicate that there was a nationalistic motive behind the murder.
