Canada La Loche Community School shooting ---  ===

January 22, 2016 4 killed 7 injured Canada La Loche Community School shooting  shooting spree in La Loche,Saskatchewan, Canada. The gunman killed two of his teen cousins who were brothers at their home, then in the afternoon he shot up his school, killing two teachers at La Loche Community School which serves a largely indigenous population near the Clearwater River Dene Nation in northern Saskatchewan. A 17-year-old male suspect who was unnamed was apprehended and placed into custody. Killed were  Dayne Fontaine, 17, and his 13-year-old brother Drayden, and at the school, Adam Wood, a 35-year-old teacher, and 21-year-old Marie Janvier, a teaching assistant. Wounded staff included an assistant principal and a substitute teacher.  La Loche shooting is said to be the deadliest school shooting in Canada in the past 26 years since in 1989, a 25-year-old man opened fire at École Polytechnique in Montreal,

Operationally, it was no different from the San Bernadino ISIS inspired attack, but Canadian media and community is placing blame squarely on bullying and social injustice towards First Nations. There is no evidence that enemies of Canada might somehow recruit untraceable troubled kids to do the same things one might expect ISIS inspired terrorists to do. The same thing happened at Marysville Pilchuck High School in Washington to another Native American community when a tribal prince suffered from sudden terrorist syndrome allegedly over girlfriend problems.

Shootings[edit]

Dene campus of the La Loche Community School on January 24

The shootings began at a residence in the 300 block of Dene Crescent, where the suspect allegedly shot two of his cousins some time before 1:00 p.m.[2][8][9][10] He then went to La Loche Community School and began firing at around 1:05 p.m., shortly before lunch ended.[11] The gunman fired at least six or seven shots inside the school's Dene Building, killing a teacher and an assistant and wounding seven others.[1][3][5][9] The school shooting lasted for about eight minutes.[12]

Between 1:08 p.m and 1:10 p.m., a suspect with a gun was spotted by a responding officer, who chased him through the building and eventually arrested him outside at 1:15 p.m.[8][12] Afterwards, police were notified of the bodies at the residence on Dene Crescent.[8] Both La Loche and the local elementary school were put on lockdown during the shooting.[13] The suspect reportedly posted his intentions onFacebook.[14][15]
Victims[edit]

The victims were identified as brothers Dayne, 17, and Drayden Fontaine, 13; and teachers Adam Wood, 35, and Marie Janvier, 21.[16] Wood was from Uxbridge, Ontario, and had begun his teaching career in La Loche in September 2015.[17] Janvier and the Fontaine brothers died at the scene, and Wood later died in a hospital.[12] Seven other people were injured[1] and hospitalized in Saskatoon. All were in critical condition on January 24, according to an official in the Saskatchewan government.[18]

Suspect[edit]

Police have not released the name of the suspect as he is protected by a publication ban per Canada'sYouth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA).[16] They said he was a student at the school and that he is 17.[6][11][19]On January 23, he was charged with four counts of first-degree murder, seven counts of attempted murder, and one count of unauthorized possession of a firearm.[6]

The name of the suspect has been widely circulated on social media. A Royal Canadian Mounted Police(RCMP) spokesman, while asserting that Canadian authorities considered such postings to be in violation of the YCJA, also acknowledged "at this time and in this particular case, given the circumstances, tracking down and prosecuting people for social media postings is not a priority for the force."[citation needed]
Reactions and aftermath[edit]

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Saskatchewan PremierBrad Wall, and other Canadian politicians issued statements expressing their condolences and shock at the shooting.[13][20][21]Wall pledged counselling support and to cover costs for those travelling to see the hospitalized victims in Saskatoon. Kevin Janvier,[a] the acting mayor of La Loche, and Georgina Jolibois, MP for the Desnethé—Missinippi—Churchill River electoral district, called to have the school torn down and rebuilt in light of the trauma caused by the shootings.[18]

RCMP Superintendent Grant St. Germaine called the incident the worst shooting tragedy in Canadian history at a high school or elementary school.[22] Reuters called it the worst Canadian school shooting since the École Polytechnique massacre of 1989, in which fourteen were killed.[23][b]
