Oct 6, 2013 A white U.S. Army soldier in Lakewood WA near Joint Base Lewis McChord was stabbed after his group was attacked by a group of 5 black men in a car. Things appeared to end without a fight once the two groups realized they were all active-duty soldiers, but then Stryker soldier Pvt. Jeremiah Hill, 23 allegedly stabbed Spc. Tevin Geike in the heart and left him for dead on a Lakewood street. Three soldiers have been arrested in connection with the killing. It was initially thought to be based on a anti-white racial epithet, but authorities no long believe it was based on bias.
No one is considering terrorist assassination as a possible motive.

The principal suspect is new to the Army. He listed Chicago as his hometown, and he joined the service in April, according to records provided by the 7th Infantry Division. He arrived at Lewis-McChord in July for an assignment with the 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division.
A military sergeant led police to the suspect Sunday when he called detectives to report that a soldier requested medical treatment for a knife wound to his hand and told a friend he received the cut when he “stabbed a guy to death over the weekend,” Lawler said.
When confronted by the sergeant, the soldier said he sliced himself cutting vegetables, police said. He told medical personnel the cut happened when he severed a parachute cord, police said.
The other two suspects, one from Texas and one from Maine, also serve in the 3rd Brigade. They both deployed with the Stryker brigade on its deployment to Afghanistan last year

Stryker soldier accused of stabbing Spc. Tevin Geike in the heart and leaving him for dead on a Lakewood street following a confrontation between two groups of troops last weekend pleaded not guilty to murder charges Tuesday in Pierce County Superior Court.
Pvt. Jeremiah Hill, 23, will remain in Pierce County Jail in lieu of $2 million in bail, a court commissioner ordered.
Charging documents say he had a visible wound to his hand when investigators arrested him, and that Hill told a medic he got it when he “stabbed someone to death.” He did not speak in court except to say he understood the charges.
Runnion-Bareford allegedly drove the car from the murder scene and later used bleach to clean up blood stains inside the vehicle.
Hill, 23, of Chicago, was new to the brigade and had not deployed. He joined the Army this year. Runnion-Bareford, 21, of Islesboro, Maine, and Johnson, 21, of Tyler, Texas, deployed to Afghanistan with 3rd Brigade last year.
Lakewood police initially said the incident was a possible hate crime carried out by black men against white soldiers because the group in the car might have shouted something at Geike and his friends regarding their race.
The charging documents back away from that assertion.

Tevin Geike, 20, was walking with two other soldiers when a group of black men in a car shouted a racial comment as they drove by, the Lakewood Police Department told ABC News affiliate
KOMO-TV in Seattle.
"One of the soldiers yelled back something about the suspects treating combat soldiers with disrespect," Lt. Chris Lawler told KOMO-TV.
According to reports the verbal confrontation escalated when the car turned around and the men got out and started to fight the soldiers in a parking lot. The men in the car eventually left after realizing the soldiers were combat veterans, according to witnesses.
