Gas Can Arson Attack on Chinese Consulate in San Francisco A Chinese American Yan Feng of Daly City used gas cans to set a fire at the San Francisco Chinese consulate. He call law enforcement two days later and told the FBI that he heard chinese "voices" that he was sure were from the consulate. The previous night a man from Libya used a gas can to set a fire to a Seattle gay night club, while it also echoed a March 2008 fire at a security gate during a China Olympics torch controversy.
The FBI announced that terrorism, politics or civil rights were not involved, and it was not related to the 2008 incident.

Gas Can Arson Attack on Chinese Consulate in San Francisco
Details:
Yan Feng, 39, of Daly City drove to San Francisco in his minivan, filled three containers with gasoline bought at a station on Geary Boulevard, and parked in front of the consulate. At 9:35 p.m. cameras captured and Feng told the agents he placed the containers near the front entrance of the building, poured gasoline on the front door and front steps, and attempted to light a fire with his passport, but the fire did not ignite. On Friday January 3, two days after the fire, Mr. Feng called the police dispatcher and identified himself in Chinese as the person who "made the fire". He told FBI agents in an interview after his arrest that her targeted the Chinese consulate because all the voices he had been hearing were in Chinese and the Chinese consulate had to have been involved.” The previous night, a man from Benghazi Libya set a Seattle gay night club on fire, and in March 2008, a group of people set fire to a security gate at the back of the building after a controversy that the China olympics torch was to run through San Francisco.
Observations:
Authorities buy another ridiculous cover story and dismiss the possibility of terrorism as a motive. "Voices" also were behind a giant arson fire at a newly constructed dorm at Washington State University as well as the Navy Yard shooter

March 2008: a group of people poured flammable liquid on a security gate at the rear of the building and set it on fire. No injuries were reported. That fire came on the day San Francisco supervisors heard public comment on China's human rights record months prior to the start of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. The issue arose because of the scheduled Olympic torch run through San Francisco. The FBI said the latest fire was not related to the 2008 blaze.

- Voices are definitely a more believable motive than terrorism. Not like people have been blowing up buildings and schools, stabbing doctors or crashing SUVs in China or anything like that. Navy Yard shooter and the man who set a dorm complex on fire at Washington State University also were motivated by "voices", while a man at a Seattle Marina was pursued by an imaginary female ninja before he trashed a half million dollars worth of boats.
