Police Kill Religious Activist With Machete At University of Colorado Football Center facility

Wednesday October 5, 2016 At University of Colorado football center, police shot Brandon Simmons, 28, of Thornton after the threatened people with a long machete style knife and would not drop the weapon. He came on campus and scrawled a note about the Ten Commandments on a car before entering the Champions Center. He had just been discharged from the Marine Corps because he did not meet their standards after 10 years of service. There was also a false report of a active shooter the same day which was not proven to be connected to the knife intruder.

The man then entered the building and threatened people with the sword-like weapon. By Mitchell Byars POSTED: 10/07/2016  was a former Marine, but officials today said his rank at the time of discharge earlier this year was "indicative of the fact that the character of his service was incongruent with Marine Corps' expectations and standards." This morning, Major Garron Garn with the U.S. Marine Corps' Manpower and Reserve Affairs confirmed that Simmons was an active Marine from 2006 to May of this year, when he was discharged as a lance corporal. could not disclose the nature of Garn's discharge, but did say Simmons' rank when he left the service was not in line with the typical trajectory for someone in the Marines for 10 years.  Officials have not revealed any possible motive for the incident, but a source close to the investigation told the Daily Camera the suspect was a "religious zealot of some kind" and who had been overheard talking about "looking for sinners." ... wrote a message referring to the Ten Commandments on the vehicle before he entered the sports-medicine facility.
