April 29, 2018 4 injured 3 guilty UK Newport Hit and Run Attack In Newport, Wales in the UK, McCauley Cox was sentenced to 12 years for causing grievous bodily harm with intent, three years for causing serious injury through dangerous driving and three years for causing actual bodily harm after driving his car into a crowd outside a nightclub and hitting 4 people. Benjamin Thomas, 19, and Callum Banton, 19, both of Newport pleaded guilty to affray for their part in starting the brawl in which Cox claimed he was trying to stop the fight but instead rammed and reversed again over two women and hitting two others.

He fled the scene of the hit and run, and his car was found set afire found in nearby Magor Street. The attack came on Newport’s marathon with thousands of people coming to watch 6,000 runners (5). Cox was found and arrested. He was found guilty of two counts of grievous bodily harm with intent. He was sentenced to 12 years for causing grievous bodily harm with intent, three years for causing serious injury through dangerous driving and three years for causing actual bodily harm, to be served concurrently, and sent to a young offenders institution (1) Two other teens were arrested for starting the fight at the scene. Benjamin Thomas, 19, and Callum Banton, 19, both of Newport pleaded guilty to affray. Judge Jeremy Jenkins said they could not have forseen it would cause their friend plow into the crowd, but their actions clearly "precipitated" the fight as CCTV show them “squaring up” with others before a brawl with another group of men. Thomas had a criminal record including dishonest offences, assault, dangerous driving, and possession of controlled drugs, while Banton had been convicted for conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.
