"Drivers were clearly displaying behaviors consistent with implicit racial bias," study ...joint preliminary study by researchers at the University of Arizona and Portland State University suggests that it is. The study — which, it should be noted, had an extremely small sample size and was based in one city — found that African-Americans had to wait in a crosswalk about 32 percent longer than white people before drivers stopped. Meanwhile, black pedestrians typically had to wait a third longer for cars to stop for them when they had the legal right of way.  With fewer motorists yielding for them, minorities are more likely to take greater risks to cross the street
