Even after officials discover the wife pledged allegiance to ISIS leader, experts on terrorism and crime remain are baffled as to any possible political or religious motive, and still searching out for alternative explanations such as workplace and mental issues and even ethnic confusion and immigrant assimilation issues.

14 killed 18 injured December 2, 2015  San Bernardino Domestic Islamist Terrorist Mass Shooting A mass shooting occurred at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, California, with 14 dead and 18 injured.  Man that sat at same table with Syed seemed to say nothing was wrong, then Syed quietly slipped out, leaving his jacket. The shooters targeted a party for employees of the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health, held in an auditorium with at least 100 people, before fleeing in an black Ford Expedition SUV.  Two perpetrators, Syed Rizwan Farook and his wife, Tashfeen Malik, dropped off their baby with grandparents before the attack, and were killed by police after gunfire was exchanged with the occupants of the SUV. Farook had attended the party as a county employee. Farook was born in the US to parents from Pakistan. His wife was born in Pakistan and they met in Saudi Arabia. Reportedly the FBI immediately knew it was terrorism but Obama rejected it in his public relations plan. Media focused on anti-musim backlash, but not on Hispanic or Russian links as the AR-15 military style rifles were traced to converted muslim hispanic Enrique Marquez Jr. who entered into a bogus marriage with one of two Russian sisters, Mariya Chernykh. The other sister sister Tatiyana married the brother of the shooter Farook.

Attack was muslim carrying ISIS flag but announced no reason to believe it was a terrorist attack before it was handed over to FBI which has so far refused to mention the word "terrorism" as a possible motive

Farook was a 28-year-old observant Muslim man born in Illinois to parents, who had migrated to the U.S. from Pakistan. He had returned from a trip to Saudi Arabia newly married to Tashfeen Malik who he had contacted on an online dating site, as some called them an Islamist Bonnie and Clyde criminal couple. It was the second-deadliest mass shooting in California's history, after the 1984 San Ysidro McDonald's massacre, and the deadliest in America since the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. Although most media and authorities were unwilling to state any terrorist motive, and only state that terrorism was not being ruled out, candidate Carly Fiorina was one of few public officials  willing to speculate that the San Bernardino shooting 'sure looks like Islamic terrorism to me' "everything points to a terrorist attack, a homegrown terrorist attack,” Fiorina said in response to the Daily News’ headline. “This is an example of how afraid the Left wing is terrified of the truth, terrified of our values.... can’t prejudge the investigation, but it sure looks like Islamic terrorism and extremism to me,”

After Paris, people still have absolutely no idea of who would organize and plan a military style attack like this on civilians???? Oh, yeah, ISIS is not a  threat to the USA. They may have opened fire on a holiday party being held by county employees, federal law enforcement- typical target favored by ISIS.

suspects in the San Bernardino shooting is Sayeed Farook, common Arabic name. Police first assumed it was workplace violence, now drifting towards terrorism as a possbility. And they still can't name a motivation?????

Farouk's father: Farook said he hasn’t seen his son in some time. “He was very religious. He would go to work, come back, go to pray, come back. He’s Muslim.”

On December 2, 2015, fourteen people were killed and 21 injured in a terror attack consisting of a mass shooting and unsuccessful bombing at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, California, United States. Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik, a married couple, targeted a San Bernardino County Department of Public Health training event and holiday party of about 80 employees in a rented banquet room. Farook was an American-born U.S. citizen of Pakistani descent, while his wife was a Pakistani-born legal resident of the U.S. He attended the training event as an employee before the shooting.
After the shooting, the couple fled in a rented SUV. Four hours later, police pursued their vehicle and killed them in a shootout. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) began a counter-terrorism investigation because of the weapons and equipment used, recent travel to and from Saudi Arabia, and a Facebook post attributed to the shooters in which they pledged allegiance to the leader of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). FBI Director James Comey said that the perpetrators were "homegrown violent extremists" who were inspired by foreign terrorist groups, but were not directed by such groups or part of a terrorist cell or network. On December 6, President Barack Obama called the shooting an act of terrorism in a prime timeaddress delivered from the Oval Office.
The attack was the second-deadliest mass shooting in California after the 1984 San Ysidro McDonald's massacre, and the deadliest in the U.S. since the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.[8][9]

Attack

Perpetrators Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik left their six-month-old daughter with Farook's mother the morning of the attack, saying they were going to a doctor's appointment.[10][11] Farook, a health inspector for the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health, attended a departmental event at the banquet room of the Inland Regional Center.[12][13] The event began as a semi-annual all-staff meeting and training event, and was in the process of transitioning into a department holiday party/luncheon when the shooting began.[12][14] There were 91 invited guests, and "about 75 to 80 people were believed to have come to the party."[14]

A – Site of shooting
B – Injured people treated
C – School for the blind where some took shelter
Coworkers reported that Farook had been quiet early on in the event and noticed he had left the party abruptly, leaving his coat and some papers before a group photo was taken.[12][15] There were some reports that an argument occurred before his departure.[16] In later police briefings, it was said he left under "angry" circumstances.[17]
At 10:59 am PST, Farook and Malik, armed with semi-automatic pistols and semi-automatic rifles, opened fire on those in attendance.[18][19][20][21] They wore ski masks and black tactical gear (including load-bearing vests holding magazines and ammunition), but not ballistic or bulletproof vests.[14][22] The entire shooting took less than four minutes.[12] They fired between 65 and 75 bullets. The perpetrators departed the scene before police arrived.[21] Witnesses said they recognized Farook as one of the shooters by his voice and build.[23] Sources reported that Malik pledged bay'ah (allegiance) to the leader of ISIL on a Facebook account associated with her as the attack was underway.[2][24][25] Later reports described the posting as being made on behalf of both shooters.[26]
The perpetrators left three explosive devices connected to one another at the Inland Regional Center. The devices—described as "three pipe bombs tied together to make one device"—were "stitched together on a remote-controlled car" and failed to explode.[27][28] Authorities believe that the pipe bombs were meant to target the emergency personnel responding to the scene.[29] The device was hidden inside a canvas bag, and its build was similar to schematics published in Al Qaeda's Inspire magazine.[29]
Initial reports indicated that the perpetrators had been wearing Go-Pro cameras during the shooting, but no cameras were recovered, and the reports were later refuted.[30][31] The FBI later found Go-Pro packaging in the perpetrator's mother's car.[32]

Police response

It took four minutes for the first police unit to respond to the shooting following the initial 911 emergency call.[14] At 11:14 am, the San Bernardino Fire Department made aTwitter post about an emergency on the 1300 block of Waterman Avenue, with the police working to clear the scene.[33][34][35][36] Roads in the area were closed to traffic.[37]
Two police officers arrived almost simultaneously; when another officer arrived two minutes later, the three officers entered the building and began to evacuate the survivors.[14] The San Bernardino SWAT team happened to be conducting its monthly training exercise a few miles away from the scene at the time of the attack "and was able to arrive quickly, already wearing protective gear."[38] Ultimately, about 300 officers and agents from city, county, state and federal agencies responded to the active-shooter event,[14] converging on the scene as people were being evacuated.[38][39]
Police used a battering ram to get into the complex.[40][41] The FBI and the Los Angeles Police Department Counter-terrorism unit were called in to assist.[42] Police were on the lookout for a black SUV used by the perpetrators to flee the scene.[5][40]
The explosive devices placed by the perpetrators were later detonated by a bomb squad.[3][43]
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security sent a Pilatus PC-12 surveillance aircraft to the area, which circled the skies above San Bernardino for hours, mainly in the area where the shooting took place and in areas under investigation by police, and departed after the shootout between the perpetrators and police.[44][45]

Shootout

The shootout occurred on the south side of San Bernardino Avenue just east of Sheldon Drive; the red "A" marks the location of the Inland Regional Center.
Law enforcement began the search for the suspects. A witness gave Farook's name to police, who quickly learned that he had rented a black Ford Expedition SUV with Utah license plates four days before the attack.[14][18][46] Officers went to the address on North Center Street given by a neighbor that knew Farook for surveillance, but had to give chase when the perpetrators fled the house. At least one fake explosive—a metal pipe stuffed with cloth made to resemble a pipe bomb—was thrown at the police during the pursuit.[3][43] After the SUV was stopped, the couple exchanged fire with police from inside their vehicle on East San Bernardino Avenue, about 1.7 miles (2.7 km) away from the scene of the mass shooting. It began around 3:00 pm, about four hours after the initial attack at the Inland Regional Center had begun.[47] Police used multiple BearCat armored personnel carriers in confronting the shooters.[48]

The suspect's vehicle involved in the shootout.
The gunfire lasted under a minute before both perpetrators were killed.[47][49] The sheriff's department confirmed that a man and a woman were killed.[50]
Seven police agencies were involved in the final shootout, with 23 officers firing a combined total of approximately 380 rounds.[14]The perpetrators fired 76 rifle rounds.[14][18] During the shootout, police asked residents to stay indoors.[51][52]
Initial news reports and witness accounts led to a search for up to three shooters, but police eventually determined that there were only two.[22][53][54] Investigators in armored vehicles at the townhouse of the perpetrators considered ordering an evacuation, but instead ordered the neighborhood to shelter in place and cordoned off the area.[55] From 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm, police asked residents of the area to stay in their homes with doors locked and secure after residents reported a person jumping fences.[56] No one was found; the reports may have been from officers at the scene.[56] A person detained after running away from the scene of the shootout was thought to be a possible third suspect, but police determined that he was not connected to the shooting; the person was booked on an unrelated outstanding misdemeanor warrant.[14]

Victims

Fourteen civilians were killed and 21 others injured in the attack at the Inland Regional Center.[57][58] Once the injured were extracted from the building, it took about 15 minutes for them to get to the hospital.[14] Five patients were transported to the nearby Loma Linda University Medical Center[39][59] (the only Level I trauma center in the region)[60] and six were transported to the Arrowhead Regional Medical Center.[40][61] One police officer was hospitalized with a bullet wound suffered during the gunfight;[5][53][62] another officer was injured by flying glass or shrapnel.[63]
The fourteen deceased ranged in age from 26 to 60 years old. Nine were residents of San Bernardino County; the others were from nearby RiversideLos Angeles, andOrange counties. Three of the deceased victims—Isaac Amanios, Bennetta Betbadal and Tin Nguyen—had come to the United States to escape violence or persecution in their home countries.[64] Twelve of the fourteen dead were county employees;[65] ten were environmental health specialists.[66] They are:

Syed Rizwan Farook (June 14, 1987[68] – December 2, 2015) was born in Chicago, Illinois,[11][27][69] and was a U.S. citizen.[60]His parents had immigrated from Pakistan.[60] According to sources, he had a "troubled childhood"[70] and grew up in an "abusive" home.[71][72] Farook grew up in Riverside, California, and attended La Sierra High School, graduating in 2004, one year early.[73][74] He attended California State University, San Bernardino, and received a bachelor's degree in environmental health in either 2009[75] or 2010.[73][74] He was a student for one semester in 2014 at California State University, Fullerton in their graduate program for environmental engineering, but never completed the program.[73]
Farook worked as a food inspector for the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health for five years before the shooting.[76][77][78] From July to December 2010, he was a seasonal employee for the county. He was hired as anenvironmental health specialist trainee on January 28, 2012, and became a permanent employee on February 8, 2014.[73]Coworkers described Farook as quiet and polite and said that he held no obvious grudges.[15]
According to family members and coworkers, Farook was a devout Sunni Muslim, and traveled to Saudi Arabia several times, including to complete the Hajj in 2013.[17][60] Farook attended prayers at the Islamic Center of Riverside twice a day, in the mornings and the evenings, according to an interview in The New York Times with Mustafa H. Kuko, the Center's director. According to the Times, Farook stood out as especially devout and "kept a bit of a distance" from other congregants.[79] During that time, according to friends, he never discussed politics. About three weeks before the shooting, Farook abruptly stopped going to the mosque.[80]
Farook had a profile on the dating website iMilap.com, in which he listed backyard target practice as a hobby. A lawyer for Farook's family also said that he would go to firing ranges by himself.[81]
In an interview with the Italian newspaper La Stampa following the attack, Farook's father was reported as having said that his son shared the ideology of al-Baghdadi and ISIL, and had a fixation on Israel.[82] He also recounted a time when he first saw Farook with a firearm: "I became angry. In 45 years in the United States, I yelled: 'I have never had a weapon.' Farook responded by shrugging and saying 'Your loss.'"[82] A spokesperson for the Council on American–Islamic Relations (CAIR) said the father did not recall talking to La Stampa[83] or making those statements.[84]

Tashfeen Malik[a] (July 13, 1986[85] – December 2, 2015) was born in Pakistan but had lived for most of her life in Saudi Arabia.[11][77][86] Her hometown was Karor Lal Esan, 280 miles (450 km) southwest of Islamabad.[87]

Studies in Multan

Malik returned to Pakistan to study pharmacy at Bahauddin Zakariya University in Multan and graduated in 2012.[2] Saudi Interior Ministry spokesman Major General Mansour Al-Turki denied reports that Malik grew up in his country, saying that she only visited Saudi Arabia for a few weeks in 2008 and again in 2013.[88] The city of Multan has been linked to jihadist activity.[89]
While in Multan, Malik attended the local center of the Al-Huda International Seminary, a conservative women-only religious academy network with seminaries across Pakistan and branches in the U.S. and Canada.[89][90] According to school records, Malik enrolled in an eighteen-month Quranic studies course with Al-Huda on April 17, 2013, and left on May 3, 2014, telling administrators that she was leaving to get married.[90] Malik expressed an interest in completing the course by correspondence, but never did so.[90]
According to experts, Al-Huda, which was founded in 1994, "draws much of its support from women from educated, relatively affluent backgrounds."[90] Faiza Mushtaq, a Pakistani scholar that studied the organization, said that "these Al-Huda classes is teaching these urban, educated, upper-middle-class women a very conservative interpretation of Islam that makes them very judgmental about others around them."[91] According to the Los Angeles Times, Al-Huda seminaries promote anti-Western views and hard-line practices in a fashion that "could encourage some adherents to lash out against non-believers."[91] An Al-Huda administrator from the head office in Islamabad, said that terrorism "is against the teachings of Islam" and that the school's curriculum did not endorse violence.[91]

Marriage and entry into United States

According to one of Farook's coworkers, Malik and her husband married about a month after he traveled to Saudi Arabia in early 2014; the two had met over the internet.[15][49] Malik joined Farook in California shortly after their wedding. A U.S. marriage certificate reported their marriage in Riverside on August 16, 2014.[92] At the time of her death, Malik and Farook had a six-month-old daughter.[78][93][94]
Malik entered the United States on a K-1 (fiancée) visa with a Pakistani passport.[17][60][95] According to a State Department spokesman, all applicants for such visas are fully screened.[96] Malik's application for permanent residency (a "green card") was completed by Farook on her behalf in September 2014, and she was granted a conditional green card in July 2015.[95] Obtaining such a green card would have required the couple to prove that the marriage was legitimate, as well as requiring Malik to provide her fingerprints and pass criminal and national security background checks using government databases.[60][95]
Investigators think that Malik, as opposed to her husband, may have been the primary planner behind the attack.[97] Malik reportedly had become very religious in the years before the attack and wearing both the niqab and burqa while urging others to do so as well.[98][99] Pakistani media reported that Malik had ties to the radical Red Mosque inIslamabad, but a cleric and a spokesman from the mosque vehemently denied these claims, saying that they had never heard of Malik before the shooting.[99][100] Malik's estranged relatives say that she had left the moderate Islam of her family and had become radicalized while living in Saudi Arabia.[100][101]
Malik was one of a small number of female mass shooters in the U.S.; women constituted only 3.75 percent of active shooters in the U.S. from 2000 to 2013.[102][103][104][105]

Investigation

Neither shooter had a criminal record,[106] and neither was on a terrorist watch list.[107] The New York Times reported that "by all accounts so far, the government had no concrete intelligence warning of the assault," although the federal government has long feared "homegrown, self-radicalized individuals operating undetected before striking one of many soft targets" in the United States.[108]
On December 3, the FBI took over as the leading federal law enforcement agency on the case,[109] treating the probe as a counterterrorism investigation.[1][60] The FBI is conducting a "massive" investigation, and by December 7 had already conducted about 400 interviews and collected about 320 pieces of evidence.[110][111]

Weapons

The four guns used by the shooters.Released by the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department.
The attackers used two .223-caliber semi-automatic rifles, two 9 mm caliber semi-automatic pistols, and an explosive device in the attack.[3][4][60] The rifles used were variants of the AR-15: one was a DPMS Panther Arms A15, the other was a Smith & Wesson M&P15.[60][112]
All four of the guns were initially purchased legally from federally licensed firearms dealers in California in 2011 and 2012.[20][113] The two handguns were purchased by Farook from a dealer in Corona.[20][114] One of the handguns was manufactured by Llama and the other is a Springfield XD.[112]

Tactical belt used by one of the shooters.
The two rifles were purchased by Enrique Marquez, a childhood friend of Farook's whose home was searched by federal authorities following the attack.[113][115] Under California law, all firearms must be transferred through a California licensed firearms dealer; Marquez's role in the transfer of the guns to Farook and Malik was looked into by investigators,[113] and criminal charges may be brought against him.[116]
The rifles in question were legally purchased in California under California's state ban on assault weapons.[117] After the couple acquired the rifles, they subsequently altered them: there was a failed attempt to modify the Smith & Wesson rifle to fire in fully automatic mode, they made a modification that defeated the ban on detachable magazines, and they used a detachable high-capacity magazine; California laws limit magazines to a maximum of ten rounds, and the magazine must be fixed by to the rifle and require a tool such as a bullet, pen, or other implement to remove it, thereby creating a delay in the rate at which spent magazines can be replaced.[4][118] According to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the modifications made the guns illegal assault weapons. The couple had a total of 1,600 rounds (1,400 for the rifles and 200 for the handguns) with them at the time of the shootout.[60]

Searches

After the deaths of the perpetrators, the focus shifted to a small townhouse in Redlands, a few miles away from San Bernardino; the place where Farook and Malik met after the shooting and where they lived.[119][120] By 6:00 pm PST on December 2, police were executing a search warrant on the house.[119] According to the San Bernardino police chief, Farook and Malik were listed in the rental agreement.[121] Police used robots to search the house.[120] Investigators found 2,000 9-mm handgun rounds, 2,500 .223-caliber rounds, and the tools that could be used to make improvised explosive devices.[122] The FBI also initially reported that it had removed twelve pipe bombs from the perpetrators' home;[122] the FBI clarified several days later that it had recovered 19 types of pipes that could be converted into bombs were removed from the home.[110][111]
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) was able to complete a trace to the first consumer purchase on the firearms less than two hours after the guns were recovered.[20] The couple was not completely successful in destroying their personal electronics, including mobile phones and hard drives, prior to the attack.[123][124]
Pursuant to a federal search warrant, the authorities also searched a townhouse in Corona twice,[121] where Farook's brother and father lived.[125] The FBI said that the family was cooperating and authorities did not arrest anyone.[125]
Early in the morning of December 5, federal authorities, under a federal search warrant, searched the Riverside home of Enrique Marquez, the man who allegedly purchased the two rifles used by the shooters in the attack.[113][115][126] Marquez's home is next door to the house where Farook grew up.[113] Marquez has not been charged with a crime and, according to the FBI, he is not considered a suspect in the shooting.[113][115] California requires that private sales and transfers of firearms go through a California licensed dealer. A neighbor who witnessed the search said that Marquez and Farook "had been close friends since childhood but appeared to have grown more distant in recent months."[115] After the attack, Marquez checked in at a mental hospital.[110]

Media reporters enter suspects' home

After the FBI completed a search of the perpetrators' townhouse, it was turned over to its landlord.[127][128][129] On December 4, the landlord used a crowbar to open the door to the home and allowed reporters and photographers to "swarm" the home.[128][129][b] NBC News correspondent Kerry Sanders said that Inside Edition has paid the building's landlord $1,000 to access the home.[131] MSNBCCNN, and Fox News all broadcast live video from the home, showing images of personal photographs, documents, identification cards, and baby items.[132]
The scene was described as having a "media circus" atmosphere.[127][133][134] Sanders, in particular, was criticized for showing close-up images of children's photographs and Farook's mother's identification card; the network later said it regretted doing so.[131][135] According to legal experts, the incident was not illegal, but it raised concerns about journalistic ethics.[127] The Washington Post media critic Erik Wemple wrote that the media's behavior was "terrible" and opined that "this was a story poorly suited to live coverage, without the time and ability to document a scene, determine what's relevant and provide the filtered product to readers."[135] Al Tompkins of The Poynter Institute for Media Studies said that the decision to enter the apartment was "ludicrous" and critiqued the "callous and competitive behavior" of the media on a grave story.[134]

Shooting range video

After law enforcement sources confirmed that Farook spent time on November 29–30 at the Riverside Magnum Shooting Range, about 25 miles (40 km) away from the couple's Redlands home, the FBI obtained surveillance video from the range. During these visits, one lasting several hours, Farook shot an AR-15 and a handgun, which he had brought to the range.[136]

Financing of the attacks

Investigators are also looking into the terrorist financing element of the case, such as whether Farook and Malik were given money by someone to purchase the weapons.[137]
Two weeks before the shooting Farook took out a loan of $28,500 USD which was deposited in his bank account. The San Francisco-based online lender Prosper made the loan to Farook; Prosper evaluates borrowers and the loans are originated were a third-party bank, the Salt Lake City-based WebBank.com.[138][139] On or about November 20, Farook withdrew US$10,000 in cash, and later on two US$5,000 transfers were made to what appears to be Farook's mother's bank account. Investigators were exploring the possibility that the US$10,000 was used to reimburse Marquez for the purchase of the rifles used in the shooting.[138] WebBank said that it was fully cooperating with the investigation.[29]

Motive and planning of the attack

In Senate Judiciary Committee testimony given on December 9, FBI Director James B. Comey said that the FBI investigation has shown that the shooters were "homegrown violent extremists" who were "inspired by foreign terrorist organizations."[140][7] Comey said that the attackers "were talking to each other about jihad and martyrdom," before their engagement and as early as the end of 2013.[140][7] The shooters reportedly spent at least a year preparing for the attack, including taking target practice and making plans to take care of their child and Farook's mother.[141] Comey has said that although the investigation has shown that the killers were radicalized and possibly inspired by foreign terrorist organizations, there is no indication that the couple were directed by such a group or part of a broader cell or network.[2][142][143]
The FBI has said that there were "telephonic connections" between the couple and other people of interest in FBI probes.[144] Comey said that the case did not follow the typical pattern for mass shootings or terrorist attacks.[2] This was the deadliest ISIL-inspired attack in the United States.[2] A senior U.S. law enforcement official said that Farook contacted "persons of interest" who were possibly tied to terrorism, although these contacts were not "substantial." according to [145] A senior federal official said that Farook had some contact with people from the Nusra Front, the official al-Qaeda affiliate in Syria,[146] and Shabaab of Somalia, but specifics were unclear.[2][24][123]
In one Arabic-language online radio broadcast, ISIL described the couple as "supporters," which indicates "a less direct connection to the terrorist group."[147][148][c] In a December 5 English-language broadcast on its Bayan radio station, ISIL referred to the two shooters as "soldiers of the caliphate," which is a phrase ISIL uses to denote members of the terrorist organization.[147] The New York Times reported that it was unclear why the two versions differed.[147]
The large stockpile of weapons found in the couple's apartment has led investigators to believe that the shooters intended to carry out further attacks.[137]

Aftermath

After the shooting, classes were canceled at California State University, San Bernardino,[149] and at Loma Linda University following a bomb threat that was called in to the university's medical center, where many injured victims were being treated.[149] James Ramos, chairman of the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors, said that most county offices would be closed the remainder of the week, with only the most essential services remaining open.[150] The San Bernardino Department of Public Health announced that all county offices would be closed through December 7.[151]
President Obama ordered U.S. flags to be flown at half-staff at the White House, public buildings, military installations, Navy ships, embassies and diplomatic missions.[152]The governors of several states also ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff in their states as well.[153][154][155] In California, the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony at the State Capitol was canceled and all flags were lowered to half-staff.[149][156]
American Muslim organizations, including CAIR and Islamic Society of Orange County, condemned the attacks.[157] A night vigil was held the day after the attacks at the largest mosque in the San Bernardino County, the Ahmadiyya Baitul Hameed Mosque.[158][159][160]
About 2,000 local residents gathered at a candlelight vigil at San Manuel Stadium in downtown San Bernardino the day after the attack. At the vigil, Mayor R. Carey Davispraised the first responders, said that the tragedy "has forever impacted our community," and talked about how the community had come together following the attack.[161][162] Five of the victims and one of the killers were graduates of California State University, San Bernardino; on December 8, more than 1,000 students, alumni, and community members attended a candlelight vigil on campus in honor of the victims.[163][164]
Twelve of the dead were members of the Service Employees International Union; SEIU international president Mary Kay Henry said, "Our hearts are broken from this tragedy. ... We will unite to demand that our nation does everything possible to ensure that no more families have to feel this pain, sadness and loss ever again."[165]
In the aftermath of the shooting, Islamophobic attacks escalated according to the Council for American-Islamic Relations. The new spate of attacks included a pig's head being thrown at a mosque and a shop owner who was beaten.[166]
Over a period of four days, the "Muslims United for San Bernardino" campaign raised more than US$100,000 from more than 1,000 donors, to assist victims’ families with funeral expenses and other needs, becoming the most successful crowdfunding venture Muslim Americans have ever launched.[167]

Political reactions

California Governor Jerry Brown said, "Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims' families and everyone affected by the brutal attack."[149]
President Barack Obama called for "common-sense" gun safety laws and stronger background checks as part of a bipartisan effort to reduce the frequency of such shootings.[168] In an interview with CBS NewsNorah O'Donnell, Obama said: "We have a pattern now of mass shootings in this country that has no parallel anywhere else in the world."[169] Obama called for legislation to block people on the anti-terrorism No Fly List from purchasing weapons.[169] Speaker of the House Paul Ryan opposed this proposal, saying that denying persons on the list the right to bear arms would violate their due process rights.[170]
After the shooting, some Democrats sought to tighten federal gun control regulations, "laying blame on a culture that allows even people who are not permitted to board airplanes to buy guns with ease," while some Republicans criticized what they believe to be "the Obama administration's unwillingness to come to terms with the true threat posed by Muslim extremists."[171] Members of the California State Legislature also proposed to revisit some gun-control proposals that had previously stalled, with oneassemblyman proposing a prohibition of the sale of guns to those on the federal No Fly List.[106]
Pakistani Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan said the Pakistani government will continue to offer "all possible legal assistance" to the U.S. in the investigation, and that "[no] sane Pakistani or Muslim could even think about doing such acts, and only few people are using the name of Islam for their wrongdoings, which is defaming our religion. Such heinous acts also lead to serious difficulties for millions of Muslims who live in Western and other countries, and the extremists and nationalist elements in those societies look at Muslims with suspicions. Islamophobia is being spread around the world. What the terrorists are doing has nothing to do with Islam."[172]
In an address to the nation delivered from the Oval Office on December 6, President Obama declared the shooting an act of terrorism, referring to the shooters as having "gone down the dark path of radicalization" and embracing a "perverted version of Islam."[173] Obama said that "the threat from terrorism is real, but we will overcome it" and promised that the United States will "destroy ISIL and any other organization that tries to harm us."[173] Obama also outlined the ongoing fight against ISIL (including U.S. airstrikes, financial sanctions, and targeted special operations) and urged Americans to not give in to fear.[173] It was just the third speech from the Oval Office in the seven years of Obama's presidency.[174][175]
In the first front-page editorial published by The New York Times in 95 years, the Times editorial board wrote that "it is a moral outrage and a national disgrace that civilians can legally purchase weapons designed specifically to kill people with brutal speed and efficiency" and called for gun-control measures.[176][177][178]
In response to the shooting, front-runner Republican U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump called for a "total and complete" ban on Muslims entering the United States "until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on."[179][180] Trump's statement drew widespead condemnation,[181] including from the White House, which said that a plan to exclude all Muslims from the U.S. would violate the presidential oath to "preserve, protect and defend" the U.S. Constitution;[182] the Pentagon, which issued a rare statement of concern, stating "anything that bolsters ISIL's narrative and pits the United States against the Muslim faith is certainly not only contrary to our values but contrary to our national security";[183] the United Nations,[180] and foreign leaders such as British Prime Minister David Cameron and French Prime MinisterManuel Valls.[180][184] Trump's suggestion also provoked a reaction of horror from both Democratic and Republican presidential candidates in 2016.[185][186] Trump, in an interview on Good Morning America, approvingly cited the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II as precedent for his proposal.[187][188][189]
The use of BearCat armored vehicles by police during the shootout revived debate over use of military and military-style equipment by police, with some law-enforcement officials saying that the shooting showed a need for police to acquire such equipment.[190][191][192]

11 Things the FBI Learned About San Bernardino We Didn't Know Until Noq - ijr.com The case of Syed Farook and ... Tashfeen Malik complained via social mediaafterwards that her husband had to be in a room with a Christmas tree: ... San Bernardino ...the so called 'Christmas Party' where the killings occurred wasn't a party after all. The Los Angeles Times reports the reason the San Bernardino County employees gathered was due to a mandatory training session which was held in a room with a Christmas tree and decorations. The group was served lunch.  Tashfeen Malik complained via social media afterwards that her husband had to be in a room with a Christmas tree:
San Bernardino police chief Jarrod Burguan told ABC News that Tashfeen Malik didn't want any Christmas stuff around her husband: “She had essentially made the statement in an online account that she didn’t think that a Muslim should have to participate in a non-Muslim holiday or event." This may be as close as we get to a specific motive for the brutal attack.

As The Plot Thickens In The San Bernardino Massacre FBI Discovers A Massive Network Of Terrorists Involved Showing How The System Is Completely Broken by Walid Shoebat on December 10, 2015 in General, Featured

As the plot thickens in the San Bernardino massacre, the FBI is trying to decipher several issues from abuse of the marriage and immigration system and whether these terrorists had Jihadi brides.

Also who are these Russian girls involved in the marriage scheme.

Also the FBI believes Farook had ties to a group of jihadists in California who were arrested in 2012 (which caused a previous attack to be thwarted that Farook was planning) for attempted to travel to Afghanistan to join al Qaeda.

FBI says San Bernardino shooters radicalized two years ago in 2013 abc7news  at least two years ago and had discussed jihad and martyrdom as early as 2013

“U.S. government source familiar with the investigation” noted that Farook may have been attempting to organize a jihadist attack as early as two years prior to meeting Malik online. Farook’s father, also named Syed Farook, told Italian newspaper La Stampa that his son was “obsessed” with Israel, and he had tried to calm the younger Farook by telling him that “he had to stay calm and be patient because in two years Israel will not exist anymore.” An attorney for the Farook family and a representative of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) – a UAE-designated terrorist group and Hamas affiliate– both later said the father did not remember making these statements. The attorney attributed this to “medication.”

rules out the possibility that the attack at a Christmas party where Farook worked was an instance of “workplace violence,” as had been initially speculated, triggered by a heated discussion between coworkers.

... Should authorities find evidence that a foreign terrorist organization, like the Islamic State, arranged Malik and Farook’s marriage, evidence cited by President Barack Obama in a speech on the fight against the Islamic State on Sunday will have been false. President Obama stated in that speech from the Oval Office that “so far, we have no evidence that the killers were directed by a terrorist organization overseas, or that they were part of a broader conspiracy here at home.”

Authorities have repeatedly denied rumors that Farook, 28, and his wife Tashfeen Malik, 27, strapped recording devices to their body armor as they stormed the Inland Regional Center, slaughtering 14 people and wounding 21.

chilling new dimension to the ongoing FBI investigation as helmet-mounted GoPros have been used by ISIS fanatics before to capture dramatic footage for online recruitment videos.

Mr Farook despaired at the choice his son had made and questioned why with a stable income, a new baby daughter and a seemingly happy marriage and life he appears to have become radicalized into following ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

Authorities are officially investigating the San Bernardino, California, massacre as "an act of terrorism," FBI official David Bowdich said Friday...

also focus on whether the shooting occurred after a workplace issue with religion.

..."It just doesn't make sense for these two to be able to act like some kind of Bonnie and Clyde or something," Farook family attorney David S. Chesley told CNN. "It's just ridiculous. It doesn't add up."

traveled twice to Saudi Arabia -- first in 2013 for the Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca that Muslims are required to take at least once in their lifetime, then again to marry Malik, whom he'd met through an online dating service.

FBI ...went to Pakistan as well, though Abuershaid denied that.

Did a workplace dispute boil over?

Authorities haven't ruled out what President Barack Obama called "mixed motives," meaning that Islamic radicalism and workplace grievances both could have driven the attack.

San Bernardino Police Chief Jarrod Burguan has said there were indications Farook appeared angry when he suddenly left Wednesday's holiday luncheon at Inland Regional Center, only to return heavily armed.

The Farook family lawyers didn't speculate on his reasoning, though Chesley did say that "at some times co-workers have done silly things, like made fun of Syed's beard."

One of Farook's colleagues, Nicholas Thalasinos, liked to discuss religion and politics. He was one of the people killed in the Wednesday attack.

Farook and Thalasinos, reportedly a devout Messianic Jew, once had a "heated, passionate" discussion, said Kuuleme Stephens, a friend of Thalasinos, who had called him at work.

The men were sticking by their strongly held positions but were not fighting, Stephens said.

Thalasinos' widow, Jennifer, said he was very verbal about terrorism. "He's very upset about what ISIS has been doing and the radicalized Muslims," she said.

'Double life or ... really good at hiding'

No one -- not family members, no co-workers, not neighbors -- has said anything to suggest they saw this bloodbath coming.

Farook had been a regular at the Islamic Center of Riverside, California. That center's director, Mustafa Kuko, recalled him seeking advice about his new wife and her transition to America.

"He seemed like someone very genuine to establish a family on (a) good foundation," Kuko said.

Before Farook "kind of disappeared abruptly," the Islamic Center director knew him as "a quiet person. He looked like someone who is peaceful. ... He was nice."

A mob of reporters was allowed inside Farook and Malik's rented Redlands townhouse Friday, getting a glimpse at how they lived. Much of it appeared relatively mundane -- from a hanging clock to couches to many thing for the couple's young baby like a crib, ExerSaucer and other toys.

But there were also hints of something more, like shattered glass, boarded-up windows and lists of items seized by federal authorities.

Even those who knew Farook best didn't see anything to suggest something nefarious, according to family representatives.

That included Farook's mother, who thought nothing of it when the pair had her watch their 6-month-old girl while they went to a doctor's appointment, Abuershaid said. The lawyer didn't know if there ever was a doctor's appointment -- only that the mother initially worried that Farook had gotten shot, not that he was doing the shooting.

Chesley expressed surprise that Malik, whom he described as being "about 90 pounds, so it's unlikely she could even carry a weapon or wear some type of a vest or do any of this," could have been an active participant in the horror.

"There were no signs, no warnings, that Syed Farook and his wife were taking that path," the head of the Council of Islamic-American Relations' Southern California branch, Hussam Ayloush, told CNN on Friday.

"It seemed that either they had a double life, or they were really good at hiding what seems to be their new ideology or their intentions."

San Bernardino: The Most Twisted Terrorist Plot Yet  Daily Beast  This one tells us that we are in a war like no other, a war in which a couple drops their baby with grandma, then goes to a holiday party to murder co-workers who not long ago threw them a baby shower. 1) Drop off your infant with grandma. 2) Go to your work holiday party to kill all the co-workers who threw you a baby shower. 3) Leave behind a bomb to finish off the first responders  The San Bernardino mass shooting was neither the biggest nor the most sophisticated terrorist attack on our shores, but it had to be the most disturbing. If Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik planned the horror on their own—and quite likely they did—they were about to prove themselves as diabolical and sociopathic as ISIS at its worst when they dropped off their 6-month-old daughter with Farook’s mother on Wednesday morning.

Justice for Farook and wife?  #terrrorist lives matters: Farook Family Lawyer: 'They Were Handcuffed, Lying Face Down in this Truck, Shot Up' National Review One of two lawyers hired by Syed Farook's family, David S. Chelsey, made some pretty outrageous claims in an interview with CNN:Chelsey: There's a lot of disconnects and unknowns and things that, quite...Chelsey: There’s a lot of disconnects and unknowns and things that, quite frankly, don’t add up or seem implausible. She was never involved in shooting. She was probably about 90 pounds. It’s unlikely she could even carry a weapon, or wear some type of a vest or do any of this. Where the couple was found, from what I understand, is that they were handcuffed, lying face down in this truck, shot up. There’s a lot of things that just don’t make sense. You know, no one has ever seen Sayed with any of the things that they, I mean – with some of the things we found on the scene, they haven’t seem them with them. Chris Cuomo: Like what? Chelsey: The pipe bombs, for example. No one had ever seen him use or have anything like that. It just doesn’t make sense for these two to be some kind of Bonnie and Clyde or something. It’s just ridiculous. It doesn’t add up. It doesn’t add up, the military skills to carry out something like this. Really. Frankly. Cuomo: Authorities go back and forth on whether or not this shows sophisticated or lack of sophisticated, in terms of how it was carried out, but are you saying you’re not sure that they did this? Chelsey: I’m just telling you straight out that it doesn’t make sense. It looks like — if somebody had military training or something, yes, but there was none of that. And this person was not aggressive. We sat with the FBI for three hours and they tired to identify some characteristics or some affiliations that he might have had, that could have led to him acting this way. They couldn’t find anything. They were totally stumped, totally frustrated. Is this lawyer contending that he’s surprised that Sayed Farook never said to the neighbors, “hey, why don’t you guys come over and I can show you my elaborate home IED factory and my collection of pipe bombs?”... lawyer’s rant sounds like a stew of “false flag” or Truther conspiracy theories, post-Ferguson police-demonization, wishful thinking (90-pround women can’t wear tactical vests?) and a sprinkling the O.J. Simpson defense strategy.

Is it OK for federal agents to call it terrorism yet?  National Review Both she and her husband, co-jihadist Syed Rizwan Farook, may also have had contact with – or at least been “inspired by” – al Qaeda figures overseas.... investigating agents will now heave a sigh of relief because this means their superiors will probably give them the green-light to call the terrorist attack a terrorist attack. ...The terrorist attack was ignited by Islamic supremacist ideology, a mainstream interpretation of Islam drawn directly and literally from Muslim scripture. So the attack was a terrorist attack when it was happening, it was a terrorist attack yesterday when the government would not acknowledge that fact, and it is a terrorist attack now. But in the government’s parallel universe, everything has changed.... agents now apparently have a provable tie between the San Bernardino jihadists and both ISIS and al Qaeda. Because the government has decreed that ISIS and al Qaeda are non-Islamic (even anti-Islamic), it will now be permissible to call the attack terrorism. Islam is peace and cannot trigger terrorism, so we can’t call mass-murder committed by Muslims as terrorism. But ISIS/al-Qaeda are anti-Islam because they commit violence. Therefore, now that Farook and Malik are ISIS/al-Qaeda, they are anti-Islam, so we can safely call their attack terrorism.

So why is it that, upon seeing two-plus-two, they can’t call it four when Islam is involved? government denies that terrorism is caused by Islamic doctrine. This is a triumph of willful blindness and political correctness  .constructed “an Islam of their very own.” ... when she branded terrorism as “anti-Islamic activity.” That is: the savagery is not merely unrelated to Islam but becomes, by dint of its being violence, contrary to Islam. This must be so because the British government, like our government, insists Islam is a “religion of peace.”

violence is deemed anti-Islamic. That is what has been dictated to our law-enforcement agents by their superiors. If those were your instructions, you’d be babbling like a moron, too. Islamic doctrine can never be cited as the cause of terrorism.  the one Rudy rightly labels moronic: The apparent inability of government officials to call a mass-murder attack by Muslims a terrorist attack. they cannot call terrorism terrorism unless and until they uncover evidence proving that the Muslim mass-murderers have some tie to a designated “non-Islamic” terrorist group, such as ISIS or al-Qaeda.... that’s why they won’t say the terrorist attack in San Bernardino is the terrorist attack in San Bernardino.

Remote controlled model car bomb found: gateway  bag believed to belong to the shooters was found inside the conference room. Inside, investigators found three rudimentary explosive devices packed with black powder and rigged to a remote controlled car. The remote for the car was found inside the SUV where Farook and Malik were later killed, a law enforcement official said.  The pair planned to use the remote to detonate the explosives from a distance, the official said. Either it didn’t work because of distance or they didn’t do it. Officials later rendered the explosive devices safe. comments: Farook was a Muslim, Chicago born son of immigrants. From Pakistan. Met wife online, traveled to Saudi Arabia to get her, she's Pakistani - was she a legal immigrant to the US? Great reporting by Kristinn shows others saw multiple suspicious people in and out of their apt, cops say gun may belong to a roommate, the attack was "meticulously planned" but the rifle owner isn't implicated? profiles emerged of the suspects: Syed Rizwan Farook, 28, a former county health worker who was born in the United States, and a woman described as his Pakistani-born wife, Tashfeen Malik, 27.

“One of the big questions that will come up repeatedly is: ‘Is this terrorism?’ ” said David Bowdich, assistant director in charge of the FBI’s Los Angeles office, said at an earlier news conference. “It is a possibility. We are making some adjustments to our investigation. It is a possibility. But we don’t know that yet. And we are not willing to go down that road yet. (why not???)

An online dating profile for a “farooksyed49” from Riverside, Calif., resembles the suspect described by law enforcement. The profile, on the “Indian matrimonial and dating service” iMilap.com, describes a 22-year-old man from a “religious but modern family.”

“I work for county as health, safety and environmental inspector,” it reads. “Enjoy working on vintage and modern cars, read religious books, enjoy eating out sometimes travel and just hang out in back yard doing target practice with younger sister and friends.”

Replace Duck with Terrorist
I can almost guess the FBI has been ordered not to use the word Terrorist.

US proper was safer when it was engaged in an active ground war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Gave the jihadists a place to fight the Americans off US soil. Now, with the US like a turtle in its shell, where else are they going to strike except the homeland?

Here’s what we know about him.
He Was An American Citizen. The media were quick to point this out, though they did not state whether he was born in the United States or naturalized here. He graduated in 2003 from La Sierra High School and studied finance at California State University Fullerton until 2013.
He Was A Religious Muslim. According to his father, he was “very religious. He would go to work, come back, go to pray, come back. He’s Muslim.” A neighbor said, “He was quiet but always polite. Maybe two years ago he became more religious. He grew a beard and started to wear religious clothing. The long shirt that’s like a dress and the cap on his head.”
He Was Married to Suspect Tashfeen Malik. (This entry was updated 7:00 AM PT.) One of the other perpetrators was Farook's presumed wife, Tashfeen Malik, 27. While Malik had been living in Saudi Arabia, The Telegraph (UK), citing the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), reports that she is originally from Pakistan:
The couple had a child believed to have been born in May this year, according to Hussam Ayloush, Council of American Islamic Relation executive director.
Farook’s family was originally from South Asia, while Malik was believed to be from Pakistan and had lived in Saudi Arabia before coming to the United States, Mr Ayloush said.
They left their six-month-old child with the child's grandmother the morning of the attack.
Farook Recently Traveled to Saudi Arabia. The LA Times reports that Farook recently traveled to Saudi Arabia and returned to the U.S. with Malik, whom he had met online.
Farook Worked For The Government. He was a business taxes representative for the California State Board of Equalization. His father told The New York Daily News that his son “inspected restaurants and hotels for health violations, and was married with a child,” according to The Washington Times.
Farook and Malik Were Well-Armed. Two AR-15 “style” rifles were found in the SUV in which Farook and the Malik were shot. They both wore tactical gear and had magazines of ammunition.
They Were Wearing GoPros and Left Booby Traps At Their Home. Not only had they been preparing for the attack for some time, they were reportedly wearing GoPro cameras to apparently film the slaughter. Police have also said they had booby trapped their home.  “There had to be some sort of planning that went into this," San Bernardino police chief Jarrod Burguan told the media Burguan continued “I don’t think they just ran home, put on these types of tactical clothes, grabbed guns and came back on a spur of the moment.”
His Brother Is Also a Suspect. That is according to a report from NBC News.
Some Outlets Say He Might Have Been a Disgruntled Employee. The Los Angeles Timesreported that Farook attended a San Bernardino County Department of Health holiday event at the Inland Regional Center, and that he got into a fight with someone before returning with two accomplices to shoot up the place.
UPDATE 9:00 PM PT: The Police are now denying LA Times reporter Rick Serrano's report about "Tayeep Bin Ardogan," a homonym for the Turkish leader; Serrano has deleted his tweet. Until further notice, Ardogan has not been linked to the attack.
UPDATE 9:20 PM PT: A neighbor of Farook's now apparently says that she didn't report his suspicious activity so as not to be accused of racial profiling:
UPDATE 9:30 PM PT: Fox News is reporting that Farook may not have been a "disgruntled employee" after all, but just at the party casing the room for the attack.
UPDATE 6 AM PT: Another report about someone noticing suspicious activity involving Middle Eastern men but failing to report it for fear of being accused of "racial profiling":

An eyewitness at the Inland Regional Center, where gunmen killed 14 and wounded at least 18 more, told police he saw a man leaving a meeting of county employees this morning, looking nervous. Poice officers named Syed Farook as that man in their radio communications. At approximately 11 a.m., at least two people entered the center and opened fire. - See more at: http://pamelageller.com/2015/12/first-photos-syed-farook-confirmed-as-a-shooter-in-sanbernadino-jihad.html/#sthash.tnc2Q6iD.dpuf

Farook was a business taxes representative for the California State Board of Equalization, according to his LinkedIn profile. He is a 2003 graduate La Sierra High School, and most recently studied finance at California State University Fullerton until 2013.
Records show Farook bought a two bedroom Corona home in March 2014. Farouk’s social media profile shows he is married and has at least one young child. His wife did not return messages left on Wednesday.
Farook lived at a home with his wife and children in Corona, California. The Daily Beast knocked on the home’s door and was met by a man who said, “My name is Farook.” When asked if he knew Sayed, the man said, “Of course I know him but I have nothing to say.” When asked about Syed being named as a suspect, he said, “I have nothing to say.”
Behind Farook, was a brightly lit home with low-slung sectional couches and boxes for appliances. The smell of basmati rice cooking came wafting through the door. A set of womens sandals sat outside of the security door.
Five minutes after he answered the door, Farook got into a white car and drove away, answering questions again with, “I have nothing to say.” er was shot in the confrontation but didn’t suffer a life-threatening wound and was expected to be OK.

Disgruntled Muslim employee[edit]
Since the section about suspects keeps going back and forth, I think there should be a section here to discuss whether it should be mentioned that one suspect is thought to be a disgruntled employee--108.85.149.233 (talk) 01:51, 3 December 2015 (UTC)
There is nothing good that can come out of rushing to give
I have just heard on ABC's stream that one of the owners of the townhome they are searching is/was an employee, so if anyone can find a written source it may be appropriate to include that at this point, but avoiding speculatory statements would still be nice. Tpdwkouaa (talk) 03:00, 3 December 2015 (UTC)
Multiple sources (including LA Times) are saying that the townhome belongs to Saeed Farooq. They have put up other information saying that a Syed R. Farook worked as an environmental health specialist for San Bernardino County but they have not said that they are the same person and its better to be careful if they are not. 75.17.127.1 (talk) 03:21, 3 December 2015 (UTC)
A very strange place to make a random target. Shooters must have a connection to this non-profit. Legacypac (talk) 03:55, 3 December 2015 (UTC)
From the various reports I've seen, it sounds like nobody has any idea how the name should be spelled. It's possible that different family members spell that surname differently. Typically the first name would be "Syed" or "Sayed", but there are a lot of other spellings in reports that I've never seen before. It's a relatively common first name, and I'm sure I've heard the last name before. It's hard to say whether the varying reports are actually confusing multiple people, but my guess is reporters are just being careless. Makes it hard for us to get our facts straight. It has been loosely confirmed that they found the house(s) by following the trail left by the disgruntled employee, who appears to be named some variation of Syed Farooq. One report said he's an accountant of sorts who helps with taxes at the IRC. It's all very vague right now, though. —Zenexer [talk] 04:06, 3 December 2015 (UTC)
There is a distinction between what we know and what we can prove with sources. We knew for example about Saeed Farooq hours before it could go in the article. These are the rules.
LA Times is now reporting that the Saeed Farooq who lived at the townhome was a food inspector in the public health department. It also claims that a Christmas party was being held in the conference room where the mass shooting happened. [3]75.17.127.1 (talk) 04:01, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

While early reports in a mass shooting often suggest multiple perpetrators, in the US this is extremely rare. In 160 active shooter incidents studied by the [[FBI]] between 2000 and 2013, only two involved more than one shooter. Similarly, of the 28 deadliest shootings in US history, only two involved more than one shooter, including the 1999 [[Columbine High School shootings]]. According to law enforcement, mass shootings by lone gunmen are often premeditated but killings by multiple shooters can suggest a higher level of planning.{{cite web|url=http://www.cnn.com/2015/12/02/us/san-bernardino-shootings-multiple-suspects-rare/index.html|title=Three shooters -- is this rare? - CNN.com|author=Brandon Griggs and Eliott C. Adelle Nazarian of Breitbart News notes that CNN analysts say the attack looks like terrorism:
Speaking on CNN’s Out Front with Erin Burnett Wednesday, former CIA case officer Robert Baer said the most “disturbing” aspect of the deadly San Bernardino shooting is that it was carried out using tactics that are employed in the Middle East. “What I don’t like about this shooting is multiple shooters… IEDs… I say this very reluctantly, but this has the hallmarks of the sort of attacks you see in the Middle East,” Baer said. Former FBI special agent Robert Chacon agreed with Baer’s assertions later on in the show.

While it is not yet clear whether the San Bernardino shooting was an act of terrorism, the massacre did prompt a response from Department of Homeland Security. Flight radar information showed that a Homeland Security Pilatus PC12 has been circling over San Bernardino at close to 7,300 feet. Officials from the FBI and ATF also responded to the scene.
In a news conference Wednesday afternoon, FBI official said they did not know if the attack was an act of terrorism, but officials said the men “came prepared” with long guns and body armor....

The name of the woman suspect is also floating around but I haven’t seen that confirmed yet.

Update: NBC thinks it knows who the third suspect is. “[A] knowledgeable source said another member of the trio is believed to be Farook’s brother.”

Update: As far as the “Saeed = jihad” theory goes, if he was out to kill random Americans, this was a weird place to do it, no? He probably could have gotten an even bigger death toll by walking into a movie theater or a crowded restaurant and opening fire there. Seems like he had something specific in mind.

Update: Here’s a California state employee webpage for a Syed R. Farook, who was employed as an environmental health specialist for the San Bernardino government in 2013. It’d be some coincidence if that’s not the shooter but no one’s confirmed that it is, so reserve judgment. If Saeed worked for the health department, though, that could cut either way. Obviously it creates the possibility of a “workplace violence, not jihad” scenario. But it could also explain why he might have targeted the banquet even if jihad was his motive. He had access to a big crowd of people in a confined space; he probably knew the layout well; and they trusted him enough to let down their guard around him.
