January 26, 2019 Dakota Theriot Louisiana shootings kills 5 girlfriend, her father and brother, own father and mother. - A manhunt sought Dakota Theriot a Louisiana man suspected of a Saturday morning killing spree that has left five people dead in two families. He is suspected of fatally shooting a woman believed to be his girlfriend, and her father and her brother at their home in Livingston Parish, near New Orleans where the suspect had been living for a couple of weeks. Then he went to Ascension Parish where he killed his mother and father.(1) He suffered from mental illness as he grew more unstable. His record shows minor offenses, such as smoking weed with his parents and violent wife beating and threats to kill his family. Yet he never got a lengthy prison term or longterm hospitalization. For many offenses, he was never arrested.(3) The DA sought the death penalty though Theriot might be suffering from mental health problems Theriot pleaded not guilty to three counts of first-degree murder. The victims were 20-year-old Summer Ernest, whom authorities and her family members have described as Theriot's girlfriend, as well as her father, 43-year-old Billy Ernest, and a brother, 17-year-old Tanner Ernest. "You had three completely innocent victims. By all accounts, no justification or mitigating reasons why this took place," Livingston Parish District Attorney Scott Perrilloux said. (2)

0n January 26, 2019, Dakota Theriot was suspected of fatally shooting his parents and three other people, in Ascension and Livingston parishes, in the U.S. state of Louisiana.

Incident[edit]

Investigators claim that Theriot killed three victims in Livingston Parish before he stole a truck and drove to the neighboring county and shot and killed his parents.^[1] The victims in Livingston Parish were Billy Ernest, aged 43, Summer Ernest, aged 20, and Tanner Ernest, aged 17; Elizabeth and Keith Theriot, both in their early fifties, were killed in Gonzales.^[2] The neighbor of the Ernest family told reporters that the two surviving Ernest children ran to her home to call 9-1-1 and were unharmed in the incident.^[3] Police found both Elizabeth and Keith Theriot alive at their house, and Keith reportedly identified his son as the shooter. The couple later died in hospital.^[1]

Suspect[edit]

Theriot has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, illegal use of weapons, and home invasion.^[4]^[5] After a day-long manhunt, Theriot was arrested by the Virginia State Police in Richmond County, Virginia, approximately 1,000 miles (1,600 km) from the crime scene.^[1]^[6]
