1. *2  January 17 2014 Maryland Mother Exorcism Excuse for Killing Toddlers A Germantown, Maryland mother and another woman are alleged to have killed two toddlers and trying to kill two other children. Montgomery County police believe the motive was an exorcism releasing demonic spirits that had possessed the siblings. The two dead children were found Friday morning stabbed to death on their mother’s bed.
2. January 17, 2014 2 Shot At North Philadelphia Charter School Two students were shot in the cafeteria before 3:30 p.m. at Delaware Valley Charter High School in North Philadelphia. Authorities were asking the shooter to turn himself in.

4. January 16, 2014  Giant Rim Fire Started By Illegal Hunter Campfire Three men were arrested for allegedly starting the massive Rim fire at dawn near Yosemite. They were arrested after a call that at least two people were suspiciously walking away from the fire, and admitted to authorities they tossed paper into a campfire when a strong winds spread embers. Those arrested were identified as Jonathan Carl Jerrell, 23; Clifford Eugene Henry Jr., 22; and Steven Robert Aguirre, one of whom was homeless.
5. *3  Wednesday January 15, 2014 Gunman Shot Dead After Killing 2 At Indiana Grocery Store 3 Dead as a gunman entered through a deli door and fired a gun up and down a Elkhart Indiana supermarket at night. He killed an employee and a shopper before the gunman was shot dead after he aimed at police officers. The gunman lived in the area, but was no apparent motive and his victims appeared to be chosen at random.
6. *1  Wednesday January 15-16, 2014 Teen Henry Jackson Killed After Shooting ATF Agents Teen Henry Jackson, was shot at 9:30 p.m. Thursday in Oklahoma after a two-day crime spree after shooting one woman, and another man blocks away. He also shot at two 2 ATF agents who were searching for him. He fired at officers who chased his vehicle, and was killed by return fire.
7. January 15, 2014 Seattle University Student Stabbed By Teen  Kenneth, 16, and Brandon Pamon, 23, are accused of brutally stabbing 23-year-old Geoff Vincent as the Seattle University student walked home from a show early Wednesday morning.
8. Jan 14, 2014 Roswell Middle School Student Fires Shotgun A 12-year-old boy in Roswell, New Mexico ran into the gym, drew a shotgun from a band-instrument case in the gym and shot and wounded a boy and girl classmates at his middle school. Then he shot at the ceiling and a teacher talked him into dropping the weapon. A classmate described the shooter as a "smart kid and a nice kid" as officials searched for a motive.
9. *2 January 14, 2013 Two Shot and Killed in Aurora Illinois Home and Restaurant Bathroom There were two apparently unrelated fatal shootings in Aurora Illinois in the evening. A 22 year old woman was shot in her home after an argument with a man in what appeared to be a domestic situation. A 22 year old man was shot in the bathroom inside a Mexican restaurant, and two suspects were seen fleeing the scene.
10. *1 January 13, 2013 Florida Movie Theater Shooting Kills One Over Texting Retired Tampa Police Department officer, Curtis Reeves was arrested after a Florida movie theater shooting in Wesley Chapel before the screening of 'Lone Survivor', a surprise hit movie about survival of attacks by the Taliban in Afghanistan. Reeves became agitated with Chad Oulson for texting before the movie began, and after an argument Reeves fired a gun at Oulson and his wife. Nicole was wounded in her hand blocking the gun. to her hand, before Chad was struck. It recalled the unprovoked July 2012 Aurora Colorado theater shooting that killed 12 and wounded 70. No news reports speculated on whether the shooting could have been connected to a terrorist motive or a group sympathetic to the Taliban
11. January 8-12 2013 San Jose Serial Arsonist Sets Dozen Fires in a Week Greater Saint John Baptist Church on E. San Antonio St. in San Jose was damaged by arson, and another fire was set on the property on Sunday January 12. A series of fires have been evidently set by the same person in the Roosevelt, Little Portugal, Wooster and Five Wounds neighborhoods, as well as the eastern parts of the Brookwood Terrace, Naglee Park and Northside neighborhoods near downtown San Jose, California. January 13 was the first time in six days there were no suspicious fires after a string of 12 suspicious fires over five consecutive days
12. *2  January 10, 2014 NYC cab hits and kills 9 yr old son of radiation oncologist who treated Giulani. Dr. Richard Stock cried out in horror after the cab hit young Cooper as it made a left turn. Richard suffered a leg injury, and his son were taken to St. Luke’s Hospital, where Cooper was pronounced dead. A half hour earlier just two blocks away, another 73-year-old man was killed after being dragged along the pavement by a green charter bus in a separate apparently unrelated accident two blocks away. Both the bus driver and the cab driver stayed at the scene but neither was charged. (2 unrelated incidents 30 minutes and 2 blocks apart: )
13. January 9, 2013 West Virginia Governor Earl Ray Tomblin declares a state of emergency for 100,000 West Virginia American Watercustomers in five counties (Boone, Lincoln, Kanawha, Jackson, and Putnam) because of a spill of 4-methylcyclohexanemethanol into the Elk River. (NBC)
14. January 8, 2013 A Canadian National Railway train from Toronto carrying crude oil and propane derails and catches fire in Plaster Rock, New Brunswick, in the northwest part of the province, causing 45 homes to be evacuated in a rural area. No one has yet been injured, and the fire has diminished, so far without the propane exploding. (MSN)

January 6, 2013 Elderly Man Accidentally Crashes Into Walpole Gas Pump An 83 year old man in Walpole, Massachusetts is caught on camera hitting a gas station attendant and then knocking down a gas pump and starting a fire with his car. The man is a regular customer who said he stepped on the gas instead of the brakes.
16. *1  January 4, 2014 Man Pursued, Shot by SUV In Apparent Road Rage Timothy "Asti" Davison called 911 to say that he was followed by a Ford Ranger pickup truck that was shooting at him and forced him off the road in Maryland. He was found wounded off the road in Pennsylvania and died later. Police believe that motive was random road rage, and there are no leads on the shooter. No one has suspected a connection to terrorism
17. * January 3, 2014 22 Catholic Martyrs Priests And Workers Assassinated in 2013 Agenzia Fides reports that during 2013, 22 pastoral care workers were killed worldwide (mostly priests), almost double compared to 13 who were killed in 2012. On the night of December 31, 2013 and January 1, 2014, Fr. Eric Freed, a priest in Eureka, California was killed: The police are investigating to determine the reasons of such murder.

January 2, 2013 $18K Robbery Leads to Shooting of Phoenix Police Officer, Truck Driver After robbing $18,000 from a men's club 26-year-old Roger Allen Sharp of Phoenix led police on a chase and crashed into a truck. As he was stopped , he got the officer's gun and shot the officer and the truck's driver, who were both critically injured.
19. * Minneapolis Apartment Building Explodes And Burns Injuring 13 January 1, 2013 An apartment building near a mosque in a Somali community in Minneapolis, Minnesota exploded into flames. 13 were hospitalized with injuries, 6 were injured critically.
20. * Catholic Priest Rev. Eric Freed Killed January 1, 2013 Popular Catholic priest Rev. Eric Freed was found bludgeoned to death in the rectory of his church in Eureka California. An arrest warrant was issued for Gary Lee Bullock who had been arrested and jailed and hospitalized and released due to erratic behavior before the killing.
21. * Man sought in connection with Jan. 1 slaying of U.S. Army Sergeant  MARRERO, La. – The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is seeking a person of interest in connection with the slaying of a U.S. Army soldier who was killed in the driveway of his in-laws’ home on January 1. U.S. Army Sergeant Joseph Anderson was shot and killed in the 6100 block of Ray Street in Marrero after dropping off his three children at his in-laws. Anderson, who survived two tours of duty in the Middle East, was shot in the head and his car was stolen.

January 1, 2014 Gas Can Arson Attack on Chinese Consulate in San Francisco  Yan Feng, 39, of Daly City drove to San Francisco in his minivan, filled three containers with gasoline bought at a station on Geary Boulevard, and parked in front of the consulate. Eldridge said Feng told the agents he placed the containers near the front entrance of the building, poured gasoline on the front door and front steps, and attempted to light a fire with his passport, but the fire did not ignite. On Friday January 3, two days after the fire, Mr. Feng called the police dispatcher and identified himself in Chinese as the person who "made the fire". He told FBI agents in an interview after his arrest that her targeted the Chinese consulate because all the voices he had been hearing were in Chinese and the Chinese consulate had to have been involved.” The FBI believes that terrorism, politics or civil rights were not involved.
