April 18, 2016 murders March 8, 2017 suicide Murder Conspiracy Case of Nick Tartaglione and Gerard Benderoth killed: 5 suspects: 1 arrested 1 suicide detail: Nicholas Tartaglione was a retired Westchester County New York police officer who worked as a cop in Briarcliff Manor and Mount Vernon. He was charged by federal prosecutors in December 2016 with quadruple homicide and drug conspiracy for what prosecutors called “gangland-style” crime during a drug deal gone bad, two appeared to be just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Prosecutors believe Tartaglione participated in the killing of the 4 hispanic men, Martin Luna, Urbano Santiago, Miguel Luna, and Hector Gutierrez in April at a bar owned by Tartaglione's brother called the Likquid Lounge in Chester, Orange County (5) Tartaglione was indicted in a conspiracy to distribute furtherance of a conspiracy to distribute more than five kilograms of cocaine since June 2015. Tartaglione could face life in prison or the death penalty. The victims were last seen April 18 parking at a diner (10). Four bodies were recovered from a farm property in Otisville, where Tartaglione was a tenant, but investigators do not yet know how the victims died. On March 8, 2017 Gerard Benderoth , who worked a stint at the Haverstraw PD after retiring from the NYPD in 2005, was about to be arrested by federal agents on a sealed indictment tied to a murder and drug conspiracy case in connection to the quadruple murder allegedly carried out by Nicholas Tartaglione. 4 After seeing flashing lights, Benderoth stopped near a church and an elementary school and fatally shot himself, apparently choosing suicide before being arrested for his connection to the murders. Benderoth was a "360-pound bodybuilder ex-NYPD cop who killed himself in front of FBI agents probing a quadruple murder was drowning in debt and battling depression"
