May 27, 2018 Stewart Weldon Springfield Kidnapping Case hastingstribune: Stewart Weldon was arrested Sunday May 27 after a car chase that ended when he crashed into a police cruiser and wrestled with officers. A woman in Weldon's car said he held her captive for a month, sexually assaulted her and beat her with a hammer and other objects, police said. She was taken to the hospital with stab wounds to the abdomen and other injuries,[4]

On May 30, investigators started a a five-day search of the Weldon's residence, registered in his mother's name found remains of 3 women during after Weldon's mother called 911 complaining about a rank odor. [2] Weldon had not been charged in connection with the discovery of the bodies. Investigators use radar to search Springfield property for bodies. Two had been reported missing. 47-year-old Ernestine Ryans was reported missing March 18, 2018 - 10 days after her family last saw her. “She didn’t deserve for her life to end in the manner in which it did". Ludlow Police are unclear when Escalante vanished, but she was alive as late as mid-December when she filed a police report after getting into a verbal altercation with a relative. [1] 34-year-old America Lyden had been reported missing December 2017 and not been since June 2017. Both were from Springfield. A St. Paul man was sentenced to more than a decade in prison for shooting into a crowded area in downtown Minneapolis last summer and wounding an innocent bystander.
“Mr. Chatman recklessly shot his gun in a crowded area of downtown and hit an innocent man. Thanks to the lifesaving efforts by the medical team at Hennepin County Medical Center, the victim is alive today,” Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said in a prepared statement. “We agree with the jury’s verdict and the sentence … We hope that Mr. Chatman will turn his life around, but if not, society will be protected from him for a good long while.”
Witnesses told officers that two men had been fighting with Chatman and Chatman was knocked to the ground. At that point, Chatman stood up, pulled out a gun, and fired a shot that wound up hitting the bystander, who was waiting for the bus, according to the county attorney’s office.
Chatman then fled the scene.

An International Falls man, Thomas Nicholson, 26, was also arrested. Shawn Benson, 21, of Maple Lake was charged with second-degree intentional murder. Justin Jensen, 28 of Maple Lake, and Edward Zelko, 26, of Buffalo, were each charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder. argument was sparked by Clough’s belief that someone had snitched on her boyfriend, who had an outstanding warrant. The argument was further fueled by the belief that Clough would snitch on one of the women, who also had an outstanding warrant.
