This is a video capture of the ansar al-Sharia (Literally "partisans of sharia law", but better translation would be "The Islamic Terrorists No Longer Known As Al Qaeda") trucks at the Benghazi mission attack, which witnesses stated were clearly marked as belonging to the militia group.

Below is a video of the June rally, which was about the time that a guard was fired for painting pro-jihad anti-american graffiti at the embassy, and he came back with a CURRENTLY EMPLOYED guard who both tossed a "fish bomb" IED over the wall. According to the person who posted this video, these are made up fighters who have seen combat against Americans and coalition forces in Iraq and Afghanistan who have come into town from outside the nation. These are not simply local residents who get upset about videos made in California.

On one level it confirms that Stevens was NOT some liberal naif when he docked in Benghazi in April 2011 to serve as point man to the so-called "rebels"-- that cutesy bluff of a name which disguises a movement better described by Clare M. Lopez as "individuals and groups that were, at a minimum, allied ideologically with Al Qaeda." No real stretch to simplify and call Stevens the Obama administration's point man to al Qaeda.

In analyzing the Benghazi scandal, it is crucial to highlight not only the dangers of relying on jihadist armed gangs for American security in Benghazi, but also the betrayal of American principle undertaken by the Obama administration in setting such a policy in place. The fact is, relying on "local militias" was not some stop-gap practice; it was official US policy. This begins to tell us why "Benghazi-gate" is so much more than an inquiry into a calamitous security break-down, and the ghastly chain of lies the administration told thereafter.
On March 28, 2012,  Regional Security Officer Eric Nordstrom sent a cable from Libya requesting more  security. His request was denied. This cable, however, is evidence of more than State's negligence in failing to address a dangerous security situation that would be exploited by al Qaeda affiliates on September 11, 2012. In the cable, Nordstrom makes note of the fact that "rebuilding and expanding post's PSA Local Guard Force" was one of his "core objectives." Further: "As recommended by the Department, post is developing plans to transition our security staffing ... to [a model] that incorporates more locally-based and non-emergency assets."
Naturally. these "plans" weren't working. Hence, Nordstrom's request for more American security. And hence the denial from State for reasons, Nordstrom recently told Congress, that came down to the fact "there was going to be too much political cost.” But what politics drove such a recommendation? Here is where the entire Libyan debacle, the debacle of "Arab Spring" -- Arab Jihad -- comes into play. It is time to reckon with the fact that despite the grand talk of democracy and human rights, President Obama ordered Uncle Sam to join that jihad in 2011, precipitously pulling support from a long-standing ally in Egypt and a post-9/11 ally in Libya to empower the vanguards of  liberty-supressing Islam, extending the reach and dominion of a hostile, totalitarian system.
Obama was hardly alone, drawing support from left-wing Democrats, the UN crowd, media, the GOP establishment, George W. Bush, "neocons," all of whom boosted this same "Arab Spring," often for different reasons. One of the great champions of what we should start thinking of as the jihad outreach such a policy necessarily entails was the late Ambassador Christopher Stevens, and long before he arrived in Benghazi during "Arab Spring."
Thanks to Wikileaks, we have a series of US Libyan embassy cables, starting in December 2007, which document what became rather an abiding interest in two repatriated ex-Guatanamo detainees, Ben Qumu Abu Sufian Ahmed Hamouda and Muhammad Abdallah Mansur al-Rimi -- ben Qumu in particular.
For the next six months or so, cables, some by Stevens, some by other personnel, track embassy access to these detainees, their condition, and their welfare in their Libyan detention. One cable (not by Stevens) details an extended family visit to Qumu. His relatives, the cable reports, "were able to bring some food, clothes, personal hygiene items and reading materials to him. Tarnish [a security officer] described [Qumu's] physical condition and spirits as `very good' and indicated  that security officials at the facility ... had allowed the family to stay with him for a few extra hours in light of the impending New Year's holiday."
Why the solicitude for a high-ranking al Qaeda member with connections to a terror financier? Ben Qumu, a native of Derna in eastern Libya, rose in the al Qaeda ranks after training at an al-Qaeda camp in Afghanistan in the 1990s, reportedly serving under bin Laden in Sudan after which he fought with the Talban. He was captured in 2002 along the Af-Pak border and sent to Gitmo before being repatriated to Libyan custody in 2007.  He would be released in a Libyan government reconciliation program in 2010.
Another cable, this one by Stevens on June 6, 12, 2008, assesses the attitudes of ben Qumu and al-Rimi toward their new prison, Abu Salim, compared to their old facility, known as ESO. They both "expressed a desire to return from Abu Salim prison to the ESO facility," Stevens wrote.
Why did Stevens care? Why was the US Embassy so concerned? Something else I wonder is who among the diplomats who served with Stevens has made the connection between Stevens' interest in ben Qumu in 2008 and news reports identifying ben Qumu as the leader of the terrorist attack in which Stevens and three other Americans were murdered.
This US government report [AL-QAEDA IN LIBYA: A PROFILE] on al Qaeda infiltration of Libyan militias further identifies Qumu as a leader of Ansar al Sharia, the group believed to have led the consulate assault.
It's a stunning, sickening circle, but it is also the noxious metaphor for the deadly course of Uncle Sam's outreach to jihad.

To attempt to understand Christopher Stevens' long-standing interest in ben Qumu, the al Qaeda terrorist suspected of leading the Benghazi attack on September 11, 2012 in which Stevens and three other Americans were murdered, we must seek context in more of Stevens' cables. (Thanks be to Wikileaks.)
On February 15, 2008, Stevens wrote a lengthy cable titled EXTREMISM IN EASTERN LIBYA. On one level it confirms that Stevens was NOT some liberal naif when he docked in Benghazi in April 2011 to serve as point man to the so-called "rebels"-- that cutesy bluff of a name which disguises a movement better described by Clare M. Lopez as "individuals and groups that were, at a minimum, allied ideologically with Al Qaeda." No real stretch to simplify and call Stevens the Obama administration's point man to al Qaeda.
This early 2008 cable recounts the analysis of a US-Libyan dual national who regularly visited eastern Libya concerning the "social, political and economic factors that have contributed to and faciliated participation by a disproportionately large number of eastern Libya's native sons in `martyrdom acts' and other insurgency operations in eastern Libya."
Notice what's missing from the list -- Islam. It's not completely missing, of course. Stevens makes note of mosques and "radical" imams who use "phraseology urging worshippers to support jihad in Iraq and elsewhere through direct participation and financial contributions." Islam itself, however, never is discussed as the doctrinal motivation for jihad "martyrdom." The following line sums up how it is that the centrality of jihad in Islam is circumvented: "Citing conversations with relatives, [redacted] said the unemployed, disenfranchised young men of eastern Libya had `nothing to lose' and are therefore `willing for sacrifice themselves' for something greater than themselves by engaging in extremism in the name of religion."
The cable also opens a window onto the ordinariness of this hate-filled pathology among the people of the region. Stevens' source describes a large dinner he attended in Derna -- hometown of ben Qumu and hotbed, bar none, of jihad-in-Iraq recruitment -- hosted by a family friend. "Conversation among the mostly middle-aged male group of guests focused on news that two young men from Derna had recently killed themseles in suicide operations in Iraq. Dinner guests offered a mix of `condolences and congratulations.' " The source "said he was struck by the level [of] sentiment against Coalition forces in Iraq, and by the obvious pride the dinner guests took in the fact that two of their native sons had `struck a blow' against `occupying Crusader forces in Iraq.' He emphasized that the dinner was one of the relatively few occasions in Libya in which he felt uncomfortable by dint of having US citizenship."
Stevens later being point man to the "rebels" would mean being point man also to these dinner guests, still swelled with pride over maiming and killing American troops in Iraq. Such is the poisonous essence of "Arab Spring."
The flow of eastern Libyan "pride" doesn't stop. The cable notes: "During [source's] last visit to the east in December [2007], relatives and friends cited media reports to the effect that Libyans, most of them from Derna and points east, comprised the second largest cohort of foreign fighters identified in documents seized during last September's Objective Massey operation on the Syria-Iraq border. [Redacted] noted that a majority of those in Derna who raised the issue appeared to take pride in the fact that their small city had contributed disproportionately to the jihad against coalition forces in Iraq."
The cable continues, adding more fascinating if also sickening detail. Among other "martyrdom" factors, Stevens discusses "the influence of Libyan fighters who had fought in Afghanistan and now recruited young eastern Libyans for operations in Iraq, the influence of Arabic-language satellite televison broadcasts" -- al-Jazeera, the Qatari dictatorship's greatest weapon --  and the difficulties GOL (Government of Libya) had controlling the mosques in this region.

Part of the difficulty for GOL authorities in controlling eastern mosques is that the most zealous imams tend to preach in small suburban and rural mosques. He [source] mentioned the almost festive atmosphere of one trip, when relatives gathered to travel to a remote rural mosque to hear a `controversial' imam's sermon.

In his final "comment" section, Stevens writes: "The most troubling and difficult aspect of [redacted's] account is the pride that many eastern Libyans ... appear to take in the role their native sons have played in the insurgency in Iraq."
"Troubling," yes (putting it way mildly). But what did Stevens mean by "difficult"?
Two months later on April 10, 2008, Stevens wrote another cable detailing the Libyan government's rebuff over an idea proposing "US-Libyan cooperation on counter-ideological or `soft power' efforts to blunt the appeal of the extremist message in eastern Libya, arguing such efforts would be counterproductive."
On June 12, 2008, Stevens wrote a cable noted in Part 1 about the incarceration conditions of two ex-Gitmo detainees, including that of al Qaeda's ben Qumu, a son of Derna currently leading Ansar al Sharia.
The previous week, on June 2, 2008, Stevens wrote a cable that seems particularly significant. It stands out first for its florid title: DIE HARD IN DERNA.
From the "Summary":

Frustration at the inability of eastern Libyans to effectively challenge Qadhafi's regime, together with a concerted ideological campaign by returned Libyan fighters from earlier conflicts, have played important roles in Derna's development as a wellspring of Libyan foreign fighters in Iraq. ... One Libyan interlocutor likened young men in Derna to Bruce Willis' character in the action picture "Die Hard", who stubbornly refused to die quietly. For them, resistance against coalition forces in Iraq is an important act of 'jihad' and a last act of defiance

Resistance, huh? Didn't Stevens forget his quotation marks? Or is that how US diplomats think of acts of war against American troops who, if memory serves, were at that moment still attempting to stamp out al Qaeda in Iraq, prevent sectarian civil war from breaking out and "nation-build," all at the same time.
Also worth noting here is that this "frustration" about eastern Libyans' inability to challenge Qaddafi regime is not mentioned in the February 2008 cable. In the earlier cable, unemployment, disenfranchisement, etc., are the main political factors cited (as opposed to mosque/jihadist/"pride" factors) for inciting the high flow of eastern Libyan "martyrs" to  Iraq. Another factor was opposition to "U.S. military presence in Iraq or any other Muslim country." There is nothing stipulating that frustration over Qaddafi's regime per se was inspiring jihad to Iraq.
Stevens goes on to discuss a trip made to Benghazi in early May 2008 during which his party made a side trip to Derna to visit the "old fort." Just a fun little tourist excursion into the heart of jihad, it seems.

While asking directions to the city's old fort, P/E Chief met local resident [Redacted] who happened to hail from the same tribe as P/E Chief's driver/guide. In typical fashion, [Redacted] promptly dropped what he was doing and spent and spent the next several hours accompanying us around Derna, a town of some 50,000 people.

That famous Derna hospitality. Or is it possible, given that the driver was tribal-kin with the source, this was a pre-planned meeting?

P/E/ Chief visited the Baab al-Shiha neighborhood, the site of the town's old fort (now all but gone) and the district from which a large number of the Libyan foreign fighters identified in documents captured during September's Objective Massey operation in Iraq had hailed.

Tourism or intelligence gathering? It would be interesting to ask the P/E Chief. Stevens goes on to describe the many mosques tucked away in the 'hood and also a palpable unfriendliness of the people. Then on to lunch in Derna, described in a section titled:
PERCEIVED U.S. SUPPORT FOR QADHAFI FUELS DESIRE TO FIGHT IN IRAQ.

Over lunch at a popular restaurant just off the waterfront, [Redacted] and his business partner (who declined to give his name) discussed at length the local political-economic, cultural and religious scene, noting that it was "well-known" that a large number of suicide bombers (invariably described as "martyrs") and foreign fighters in Iraq hailed from Derna, a fact in which the town "takes great pride". [Redacted] stressed the importance of the link between the domestic political situation in Libya and the flow of foreign fighters in Iraq.

I don't know how any American just sits there listening to a discussion of the "great pride" Derna men take in blowing up American men, who if they aren't dead now are fated to live out their lives without limbs, genitals or pieces of their brains. Meanwhile, is it just me, or has a strong line of disinformation just entered the cable? Suddenly and explicitly, it's not Islamic culture, it's not the "pride" of Benghazi, it's not the call of jihad against the wider West, it's not young Muslim men brainwashed by al Jazeera and incited to jihad by their imams, it's US support of Qaddafi that is responsible for the flow of men to fight the US in Iraq.
But.

There was a strong perception, [source] said, that the U.S. had decided in the wake of Qadhafi's decision to abandon WMD aspirations and renounce terrorism to support the regime to secure counter-terrorism cooperation and ensure continued oil and natural gas production.

The source's perception was correct.

Many easterners feared the U.S. would not allow Qadhafi's regime to fall and therefore viewed direct confrontation with the GOL in the near-term as a fool's errand.

Wasn't that a very good thing? Stevens continues his account:

At the same time, sending young Libyans to fight in Iraq was "an embarrassment" to Qadhafi. Fighting against U.S. and coalition forces in Iraq represented a way for frustrated young radicals to strike a blow against both Qadhafi and against his perceived American backers.

The wheels turn ...if we could just get rid of Qadhafi....then the fine young men of Derna would ... what?
I wonder: Could Derna 2008 be the real birthplace of "Arab Spring"?

Ideological DNA fingerprint of "innocence of Muslims/ Bin Laden" Point To Terrorist State

Note - this is an early draft, but this speak for the dozens of people who suspected early on that the "attack of the anti-muslim youtube video" was manufactured by terrorist who tricked americans into helping them make a film which could then be used to target American, Israel, Copts, and ultimate the american ambassador of Libya.

Youtube routinely takes down videos which make islamists look bad such as memri translations, as well as nazi and pro-al queda and anwar al-awlaki videos, porn and racism, but if there is any possibility that a terrorist state or organization was responsible for the video, it should be taken down by youtube which can cause enormous harm because of its scale.

The Innocence / Attack of the Anti-Islamic Movie

Four Americans including Ambassador Christopher Stevens were killed by what appears to be the first successful Sept 11 attack since 9 Arabs hijacked four airliners under the banner of militant Islamism in 2001. It took the Obama administration a week to acknowledge that just maybe it was a terrorist attack. That shouldn’t be too surprising since they still officially classify the 2009 Fort Hood shootings, the worst terrorist attack on US soil since 9/11 as a “workplace violence” incident. Obama never acknowledged any  direct relationship to the religion or politics of the shooter who had asked no less than Imam Anwar al-Awlaki, later killed by drones for terrorism and spiritual advisor to the Pentagon hijackers for religious guidance on shooting US soldiers.

But this time, it seems as if terrorists hijacked a seemingly innocent Youtube video instead of airliners as the battering ram of choice. The film was widely reported to insult and depict the “Islamic Prophet Muhammad as a womanizing fraud”. The press widely reported that it was outrage over the film that was the rallying cry of protesters who scaled the walls of the American embassy in Egypt and scrawled graffiti honoring Osama bin Laden, and flying an Islamist flag typically flown by Al Queda. No evidenced of any connection to terrorism there. 3 protesters were killed in the Iranian client state of Sudan near the U.S. embassy, and another in Lebanon. Another 3 were killed at the embassy in Tunis, spark of the Arab spring so celebrated by Obama where protesters shouted “Obama! Obama! We are all Osama!” Obviously, Obama’s commitment to a more cordial relationship with the muslim world is going to take a second term to show a positive effect.  Even the Taliban took part in the protests, trashing 8 of 10 Harrier jets which had been moved to a giant helicopter base over the summer. Not even the Viet Cong in Vietnam had succeeded in destroying so many planes or breaking in to base.

But as the American right wing circled their wagons around free speech and argued that the violence had nothing to do with the video, I noticed a few things amiss, and wondered if Al Queda or somebody else had actually commissioned the video as a tool to attack the United States, Israel, Egyptian Copts and the counter-jihad movment all in one. This Sam Becile filmmaker seems to be the one bad character that has a history of committing crimes and serial lying, infiltrating Copt groups in the United States and tricking them into producing movie which was first promoted as if it were an Al Queda terrorist recruiting movie, and then promoted as a movie which goes out of its way to insult The Prophet.

What has only been reported in blogs is that the original title of the movie was “The Innocence of Bin Laden”, which implies sympathy for the hero of Al Queda terrorists.  people in Hollywood spotted a promotional poster in Arabic advertising its theatrical showing in Arabic, and a couple of people took pictures. The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) noticed advertisements in the paper and they wondered if “it was  some kind of pro-jihadist movie  Hollywood blogger, John Walsh was also alarmed by the title of the film, saying "There is an alarming event occurring in Hollywood .. We have no idea what this group is." The blog site reported that the June 30 screening had been canceled.

Oddly for a movie widely quoted as being anti-muslim, the poster did not denigrate Muslims, but rather referred to "my Muslim brother". In a translation provided by the ADL, the poster stated it would reveal "the real terrorist who caused the killing of our children In Palestine, and our brothers in Iraq and Afghanistan." Steven Klein’s excuse for the title was that their plan was to attract terrorists to see the movie and then enrage them.

However, that does not fully explain the coded language. The language appears to not only revere Islam, but the radical variety espoused by Osama Bin Laden. Who is this true terrorist that kills Muslims in Palestine, Iraq and Afghanistan?  The answer is obscure to most Americans but easy for those familiar with pro-Palestine pro-Arab propaganda – the USA. Residents of Ramallah in the West Bank consider Bin Laden to not only be innocent, but a hero. Colin Nickerson of the Boston Globe on the first anniversary of 9/11 in 2002 got this quote from a resident said Ahmed Rezak Shamasneh whose house was destroyed by Israeli tanks: ''America is the true terrorist ''It is the ally of Israel, which is killing our people [in Palestine]. It is the country that drops bombs on poor Afghans.''

If you google search “bin laden innocent”, the first article that shows up is “Osama bin Laden: Closing the Case on an Innocent Man” which condemns the killing of Bin Laden and argues that the alleged terrorist was innocent. That’s an ususual position for an American named named Gordon Duff who claims to be an Marine who is editor of a website for veterans called Veterans Today.  He claims: that “He knew nothing of Al Qaeda, never planned 9/11, never advocated terrorism, not once”. The REAL terrorist? “Bin Laden condemns terrorism and says that the US government, Israel and the press are using terrorism against the American people in order to frighten them into going to war, the endless war going on today”. Who kills muslims in Afghanistan? “bin Laden refers to the invasion of Afghanistan as a Jewish crusade… Mossad operations…have been responsible for training and supplying the Taliban inside Pakistan” Who killed muslims in Iraq? “the attack on Iraq is now known to have been planned as part of the Project for a New American Century..run by Israeli citizens inside the United States” Palestine? In the letter by Usama Bin Ladin “to the Pakistani people, ““All that is going on in Palestine for the last 11 months is sufficient to call the wrath of God upon the United States and Israel.”

What is Veterans Today? The Anti-defamation League (ADL) notes VT continues the tradition of the neo-Nazi American Free Press (AFP)  conspiracy-oriented newspaper in promoting anti-Semitic 9/11 conspiracy theories. VT is just one of a vast network of anti-Israel, pro-Iran conspiracists who “blame Israel for numerous nefarious deeds and false flag operations”. ADL notes that Gordon Duff is the senior editor of the “the anti-Semitic Web site Veterans Today”, claiming “Israelis and Jewish members of the Bush Administration carried out the 9/11 attacks as a false flag operation to provoke a war against Israel's enemies.”  These articles are “picked up by the conspiracy press, the extreme right press, and elsewhere, including Islamic media sources in the United States an in arab countries and Pakistan, connecting 9/11 attacks to claims regarding Israeli mistreatment of the Palestinians, making the 9/11 theories part and parcel of an overall anti-Israel agenda.”  Duff claims that every attack blamed on arabs or Al Queda was  actually a “false flag” attack from 9-11 to the USS Cole bombing. Canadian author Michael Ross described VT as a "dubious Holocaust-denying journa

Accoring to Duff’s biography on Veterans Today, Gordon Duff  is the “military affairs analyst for Press TV, is regularly on TV and radio, a popular and sometimes controversial guest” , which means he actually works for an official Iranian government agency and acts as one of the US-based spokesmen. Not surprisingly, everything he says matches the official position of the Iranian government.

While few have directly accused Gordon Duff of being an agent of Iran, Mike Fegelman executive director of pro-Israel HonestReporting Canada called Iran’s Press TV “Iran’s Hateful Mouthpiece in Canada” which , featuring reports which “disseminate radical propaganda and spew anti-Semitic tropes.” He noted Calgary based Josh Blakeney, like the Iranian government, promoted promoted 9/11 conspiracy theories blaming Israel’s Mossad, and writes for Veterans Today. Fegelman called the PressTVB reporter a shill for the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program who mourned for Iranian nuclear scientists.  

In the 1950s, black poet Frank Marshall Davis was recognized as being an agent for Stalinist Russia as a member of the Communist Party of the USA by the FBI and congressional committees from this anti-American newspaper articles. But today, America doesn’t have anyone in the government investigating if America’s new enemies such as Iran still main newspapers and websites which are radical Islamist fronts instead of communist fronts.

It is certainly possible, indeed consider the small number of people and organizations who boldly proclaim  the “innocence of Bin Laden” that the same people who write his materials also wrote that propaganda poster. It is like an ideological  fingerprint or DNA. Nobody else so boldy proclaims the innocence of bin laden than amadinijad of Iran, nor proclaims so much outrage over deaths of muslims in Palestine, iraq and Afghanistan.  From Veterans Today, you can easily trace the massive network supported by Iran – Alex Jones, Rense, Willis Carto / American free press and Ron Paul supporters.

Duff and a network of other writers on Veterans Today immediately began a massive disinformation campaign of conspiracy theories blaming the CIA, Mossad, Copts, “extremist Christians”, Israel and the US. Alexander Higgins and commenter trolls blame Saudi Arabia, which Iran and ex-CIA analyst Michael Sheurer considers its Sunni arch-rival to its Shia brand of Islam. So far no one on the internet even suspects Iran could have anything to do with this even though we know Iran tried to kill the Saudi ambassador. Max Blumenthal was the first to tie the film to geller and Spencer, he’s definitely working for Iran as well.

So even if we don’t have direct evidence, we need to speculate and investigate if the speculation could be true – that Iran recruited an agent to infiltrate the Copts and counter-jihad circles such as Pam Geller and Robert Spencer, and give him a modest budget to get Americans and Copts to help him create a deceptive film which could later be modified into an grotesquely anti-Muslim video insulting the Prophet. This film would then be blamed on, and target Israel, Coptic Christians, and the United States, leverage youtube to give a seemingly silly video the impact of multiple airliner crashes and inflame a global jihad against American embassies including assassinating the US ambassador to the government hated and opposed primarily by Iran. They knew that the western press would dutifully report “outrage over the anti-muslim video insulting the prophet”, without anyone suspecting or even speculating about a “false flag” attack except for numerous spurious “false flag conspiracy theories blaming everyone except the obvious prime candidate for a terrorist state that had the means and motive .  This was the same pattern that alleged “radical Christian counter-jihadist” Anders Breivik, who did everything that one normally associates with an Al Queda attack, except that he claimed to be doing it for Christian counter-jihadist who all denounced him, and again, no one in the media or even the right wing blogosphere even suspected that Breivik might have been created precisely in the manner that pro-jihad conspiracy theorists always propose that every Al Queda attack was a Jewish attack to blame muslim terrorists.

Nakoula Basseley Nakoula (born c. 1957), also known as Mark Basseley Youssef, Yousseff M. Basseley,Nicola Bacily, Erwin Salameh, Ahmad Hamdy, and Malid Ahlawi, is an American Coptic Christianfilmmaker who serves as manager for the company that produced the anti-Muslim film Innocence of Muslims.^[1][2][3]

Nakoula pleaded no contest in 2010 to federal bank fraud charges in California and was ordered to pay $794,701 in restitution. He was also sentenced to 21 months in federal prison. Following his release in June 2011,^[4] he was ordered not to use computers or the Internet for five years without approval from his probation officer.^[1]

Although Nakoula has denied being the film's pseudonymous director Sam Bacile of the controversialInnocence of Muslims film, the Associated Press reported that the cellphone number Bacile used for an interview matched Nakoula's address.^[5][6][7]

Steve Klein goes to a disambiguation page, the primary target being Steven Klein. It is not clear to me whether this photographer is the guy involved or not, in fact my impression is that it is unlikely that he is the guy involved with this film. The story of the Muhammed movie which sparked deadly protests in Libya gets weirder. The actors who appeared in it had no idea they were starring in anti-Islam propaganda which depicts Muhammed as a child molester and thug. They were deceived by the film's director, believing they were appearing in a film about the life of a generic Egyptian 2,000 years ago.

Cindy Lee Garcia, an actress from Bakersfield, Calif., has a small role in the Muhammed movie as a woman whose young daughter is given to Muhammed to marry. But in a phone interview this afternoon, Garcia told us she had no idea she was participating in an offensive spoof on the life of Muhammed when she answered a casting call through an agency last summer and got the part.

We are shocked by the drastic re-writes of the script and lies that were told to all involved. We are deeply saddened by the tragedies that have occurred.

here’s basically no evidence that “Sam Bacile” even exists. The closest person who fits that description (at least electronically) is a self-proclaimed Egyptian “movie-maker” in California, who calls himself “Sam Bassel” on Facebook. Bassel has been registered on Facebook since 2010, and has posted regularly about the movies he supposedly produces, including the one that was used as a pretext for the Egyptian riots.

“Hello, I am a producer in a America and I live in Hollywood California,” he wrote in a July 15 post, well before the controversy erupted in Egypt. “I recently produced a movie that I believe to be one of the most historically important movie of our times. It is a 2 hour long movie about the entire life of the Prophet Muhammad from start to finish. Everything that is depicted in the movie is very true and well documented in all historical books that are found and taught in all Islamic countries.”

Bassel has posted about the film often over the past few months. According to one post, the movie took Bassel 12 years to complete and “blames America for the wars that occurred recently in Iraq and Afghanistan.”

UPDATE: The Facebook page belonging to “Sam Bassel” was apparently taken down a few hours after I posted this, but PolicyMic published some screenshots. Hold on, though, the story gets weirder. PolicyMic also flags an AP article that suggests Bacile/Bassel may actually be a man named Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, who claims to be a “manager” for the company that produced the film, as well as a Coptic Christian.
