foiled bomb plot 0 hurt, 1 arrested May 1, 2014 John LaDue Waseca MN Bomb Gun Attack Plot Foiled Authorities prevented an "unimaginable tragedy" by foiling elaborate plot of John LaDue plot to kill his family and use homemade bombs and guns to attack the junior and senior high school in the southern Minnesota city of Waseca after neighbor saw him suspiciously sneaking into his storage room bomb lab. He had already stocked up with seven guns, six bombs and chemicals to build more. He said his targeted victims were completely innocent and said "I think I'm really mentally ill". He was inspired by and idolized the Columbine high school killers. Ladue admitted in court to possessing an explosive device as a minor, referring to what his attorney later described as a small “cricket” explosive. In September 2015, LaDue pleaded guilty to a felony charge of possessing an explosive device. Under a plea agreement, LaDue will serve five to 10 years’ probation, including an unspecified amount of treatment time at a secured autism spectrum disorder facility before moving to a halfway house and then intensive supervision.
