Toronto Greektown Mass Shooting

Toronto Greektown Mass Shooting --- ===

July 22, 2018  Toronto Greektown Mass Shooting 3 are killed including gunman as 14 were shot in a terrorist style suicidal mass shooting attack in  Toronto's Greektown at 10 PM (2) One girl, around 8 years old, was in critical condition.(3).  A man walked along a Toronto street repeatedly firing a pistol into restaurants and cafes (5) Officers confronted the gunman and after a brief gunfight, the gunman ran and was found dead.(3). The handgun used was illegal and he had no Possession and Acquisition Licence (12) “When you have this many people that are struck by gunfire, it’s a grave concern,” said Chief Mark Saunders of the Toronto Police Service, and said that the attack was not random, and they would not rule out terrorism. Days after authorities had identified the suspect as Faisal Hussain, 29, of Toronto, a common Arabic name.(4) they still had not established any possible motive even though when Canada suffered a shooting at a mosque in Quebec that left six dead and eight others wounded Mr. Trudeau was quick to label it a “terrorist attack on Muslims. (3)  The attack comes a few months after an Armenian van driver who left an angry note about women but had no connection to terrorists ran over and killed people in the city. (1)

Moments after Hussain's identity was released, his family issued a slick statement obviously previously prepared by a lawyer to multiple media outlets saying he had been "struggling with psychosis and depression his entire life." (6)  Suspect was “well known to Toronto Police” for violence and weapons crimes. Authorities are looking into the possibility of  potential jihadi-inspired mission as police have already contacted him for expressing “support” for a pro-ISIL website and was interested in discussing Islam though he wasn't considered to be radicalized. Police were also called when people thought he had a gun but they did not find one.  Police in Toronto and CSIS officials in Ottawa, as well as the RCMP, are looking into his past, which sources say include his residence in Afghanistan and Pakistan where he could have been trained to shoot with the skills and stance and efficiency shown in the video. (7) As of July 24, 2018, authorities concluded there was no link to terrorism in the rampage,"(8)  The mayor and locals were blaming guns and calling for more gun control. By contrast, counterjihad pundits stubbornly insisted falsely that the most obvious explanation for the global outbreak of mental illness was answering the call of the Islamic State (ISIS) and al-Qaeda for individual Muslims to murder civilians (9)

ISIS news outlets claimed responsibility but Canadian officials continued to deny connections to terrorism and saying claims could not be verified, clouding the possible motive. The AMAQ propaganda agency called Hussaina "soldier of the Islamic State and carried out the attack in response to calls to target the citizens of the coalition countries." inspired by ISIS, rather than having been directed(11) (10)  CBS News and the Toronto Sun citing law enforcement sources reported Hussain had visited ISIS websites and may have expressed support for the terrorist group.

The Danforth shooting was a mass shooting that occurred on Danforth Avenue in the Greektown district of TorontoOntario, Canada, on the night of July 22, 2018.[2] Faisal Hussain killed two people and wounded thirteen, eight directly.[1]He was found dead after a shootout with Toronto Police Service (TPS) officers. The circumstances of his death are under investigation by the Special Investigations Unit (SIU).[3]

Incident

Around 10:00 p.m. EDT on July 22, 2018, a lone gunman walked along Toronto's busy Danforth Avenue in the Greektown area of the city, randomly shooting pedestrians before opening fire on crowded restaurants.[4][5][6] The incident began around Danforth and Logan Avenue near "Christina's" restaurant. Witnesses described 10 to 15 blasts similar to firecrackers, while others reported hearing gunshots and seeing a man holding a gun.[3] Further along the Danforth at Chester Avenue, witnesses said they saw a man shooting from a sidewalk into another restaurant named "Demetre's". The shooter continued to walk westbound on Danforth towards Hampton Avenue, where witnesses said the shooter crossed the street from the north side to the south side and fired into "7Numbers" restaurant near Bowden Street where one victim was shot.[3] Police responded to calls from witnesses and located the gunman on Bowden Street and exchanged gunfire with the suspect. The gunman ran back to Danforth where he was found dead.[3]
At a nearby intersection, police officers closed off an area from bystanders and detonated a package.[6] Police did not immediately release information about the contents of the package.

Victims

The TPS reported that 18-year-old Reese Fallon, who would have attended McMaster University that fall, and 10-year-old girl Julianna Kozis, were killed.[6][3][7][8]
Thirteen others were injured. EMS transported eight victims to trauma centers – including four people to St. Michael's Hospital, three to Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and one to The Hospital for Sick Children.[3][9] St. Michael's reported it was treating five patients. Three of them underwent immediate lifesaving surgery after the shooting and the others were in serious but stable condition.[3][7] Two gunshot victims were treated at Michael Garron Hospital and were in stable condition. Five other patients were treated for issues "in relation to the shooting", but were not shot.[10]

The SIU identified the perpetrator as 29-year-old Faisal Hussain.[1]
Faisal Hussain was born to Pakistani parents in Canada according to people who knew the family.[11] His parents said he was psychotic and depressed throughout his life.[1][12] In 2010, he told a friend that he was seeing a psychiatrist about these problems.[13] He and his family had been struggling through the death of his sister in a car accident and his brother's ongoing coma after a stroke.[14]
In 2010, Hussain was investigated by TPS under the Mental Health Act.[15] On July 24, the Ministry of Public Safety said there is currently no connection between him and national security.[16] He was not on any federal watchlists.[15]
According to a law enforcement source, Hussain visited ISIS websites and may have expressed support for the terrorist group. He may have lived in Afghanistan and Pakistan.[17]

Investigation

In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, police did not identify a motive, saying that they were investigating "every possible motive, including terrorism."[18]
The SIU identified the shooter as a 29-year-old male, Faisal Hussain.[1] On July 23, police executed a search warrant at Hussain's residence in the Thorncliffe Parkneighbourhood of the city.
Since Hussain was found dead, the SIU sent six investigators and three forensic investigators to the scene.[3] The SIU was looking into whether Hussain was shot by police or if he shot himself. On July 23, the SIU removed a police cruiser from the scene and said that the two officers inside the cruiser were being investigated for their role in the exchange of gunfire with Hussain.[3] Hussain's firearm was also seized by the SIU in the course of its investigation. An SIU spokeswoman said its investigation is focused on what happened after police engaged Hussain and the investigation by Toronto Police is focused on what happened beforehand.[3]
According to a eyewitness who confronted the attacker, he seemed to show that he was targeting victims.[19]

Aftermath

Police closed off Danforth Avenue between Broadview and Pape, and the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) diverted buses and bypassed subways in the area until 5:45 p.m. on July 23.[6][3] Police maintained a heightened presence on Danforth Avenue in the aftermath of the shooting.[3]
Toronto Mayor John Tory acknowledged that the city has a gun problem and said that he was reaching out to provincial and federal officials to discuss public safety and the legality of guns.[3]
Residents and business owners in the area started a crowdsourcing campaign for funeral expenses of victims who died.[20] Meanwhile, the Canadian Blood Servicessaid that they were closely monitoring response efforts and were encouraging donations in the aftermath of the shooting.[20]
The Toronto International Film Festival cancelled an event to promote its planned film slate out of respect for those affected by the shooting.[7]

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Ralph Goodale tweeted their condemnation of the shooting and praise of the police.[21] Ontario Premier Doug Ford described the attack as "the most brazen shooting" of a year full of gun violence.[22] Toronto Mayor John Tory added that the shooting was an "unspeakable act" and an attack on the city.[3]
Because the event took place in Toronto's Greektown, the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed solidarity and condolence.[23]
Several sports teams and athletes showed their support on social media with the #TorontoStrong hashtag, which was also used after the Toronto van attack earlier in the year.[24]

aw-enforcement sources confirm investigators are looking at every avenue — including a potential jihadi-inspired mission.

Files being reviewed by police include concern Hussain expressed “support” for a website that was seen as “pro-ISIL,” says a law enforcement source.

Sources say police in Toronto and CSIS officials in Ottawa, as well as the RCMP, are looking into his past, which sources say include his residence in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Hussain apparently had been spoken to by authorities about his online activities. Sources say Toronto Police, the OPP and the RCMP have all had an interest in the now-deceased shooter.

surprise surprise. another sufferer of mental illness. what an eloquently written statement by his parents so soon after this massacre. i would love to hear what all his doctors and psychiatrists that treated him have to say. something very fishy...wonder if he was related to the van driver.

Al Davis
I don't think his family were linguistically capable of composing that statement. Perhaps one of the M.B. lawyers.

Carol Mclean
The other question is who is this "family" they're referring to since his father is at Sunnybrooke Hospital and his brother has been in a coma for a year. The family friend refers to the father in the past tense. Where is the mother since he was living in the apt. alone? Is she even in this country?

pparently his father is in the hospital and his brother has been in a coma for over a year. So the mother(?), fresh from learning that her other son is not only a mass shooter and a murderer but is also himself dead only for a few hours, has the resolve to pen a slick statement that she then emails to the CBC???? I would think that even the most stoic parent would be far too grief stricken to sit and compose such a lengthy, finely worded statement. While not impossible of course, the probability is highly questionable, so I look forward to seeing one or both parents give a verbal statement/interview to the media at some point, should this ever happen.

Skyler Scott
There's no way that anyone living in 43 Thorncliffe Park Drive wrote a letter like that.

Fiona Lang
Maybe his Iman or someone in his mosque helped with the letter? Or CBC perhaps?

Two girls, a teen and an innocent 10yo were murdered by an Islam-inspired psychopath. In Canada, we have open-borders, Sharia-compliance, and a PM who orders us all, by law and dictate, to accept this new reality with the support of the MSM. Some of us yell and scream, but in reality, we are defeated.
RIP girls...

Ronald Layden
Less than one day after this terrible crime the family is mounting a formal action to excuse the killer. I find that disingenuous and frankly disgusting. How do they know why he did this? If anything maybe they should just shut up for the time being, enough said. Given this man's background it seems highly possible that he was actually a terrorist. Watching the video of his actions and the fact that he was well prepared with a hand gun also seems to indicate planning and intent, not something we usually ascribe to severly mentally ill people. Time to call a spade a spade, this was a cold blooded premeditated murder, and very likely a terrorist attack. Time for Toronto and the Canadian government to wake up.

Derek Traise
The family statement was well written even for someone with advanced english skills. It was likely written for them.

James Williams
Derek Traise Agree. I don't think we can trust the family's description at all, since it looks highly exculpatory. Very convenient

James Williams
"While police made clear they have not ruled out any motives, the investigation will undoubtedly uncover the broken pieces of a life that ended in senseless violence and death."

Doesn't follow that they will share that information. I suspect they might sit on anything that is not PC.

The Van terrror attach was by a son of a Christian Armenian family . He appeared to have been inspired by the group INCEL. ("Involuntary Celibacy"). These are individuals who are rejected by the opposite sex. The van targeted females on the Younge strip. 8 out of 10 deceased were females. There is an excellent Wikipedia article on INCEL

Garry Horsnell
Apparently, Faisal Hussain was a Muslim and his father is or was an Imam at the local mosque.

The article says, "Meanwhile, Hussain’s family emailed a statement to CBC News outlining a life-long struggle with mental illness, depression and psychosis".

How convenient. That's a good way to explain his actions.

But I wonder if Faisal Hussain was simply following Islam and the hadiths and the verses in the Qur'an that call for the destruction of Jews, Christians and disbelievers.

He was smart enough to get a gun and he sure looked like he knew very well how to use it.…S

So...the guy was known to police and had a background of weapons (and other) offenses. As well as an online radicalization background. And Tory and the Liberal Party of Canada want to reclass/seize (legally bought and paid for) firearms from licensed and screened people who've done nothing wrong (See Bill C-71 and Bill C-68). Yet they want to go easier on ACTUAL criminals (see Bill C-75). One has to wonder if Tory (and Co.) are really trying to screw this city/country over--or are they just that stupid.
As for the perps family, their statement seems self serving and defensive...

Pat Manolis
wondering who wrote it for them

Pat Dowling
That is what liberals do. Remove everyone else's rights because they can't/won't deal with the problems.

William Blaney
Pat Manolis it was actually written for the "family" by the same person responsible for the Hijab girl fake story. Same people running the press release. People wake up, when a group writes a letter for a family that is nothing short of a hoax and a set up.

Toronto jihadi family’s statement crafted by spin doctor linked to Muslim Brotherhood

Mohammed Hashim is the “driving force” behind the Muslim Brotherhood-linked National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM). This ought to cast the family’s statement about Faisal Hussain being mentally ill into doubt, and reopen the possibility that this was a jihad attack that is being covered up by Canadian authorities, but the establishment media in Canada is likely to do whatever it can to shore up this sagging narrative.
“FUREY: Meet the spin doctor behind the Hussain family statement,” by Anthony Furey, Toronto Sun, July 24, 2018 (thanks to Ezra Levant):
The man who has presented himself as the point of contact for the family of Faisal Hussain is a professional activist who has reportedly committed himself to “framing a new narrative of Muslims in Canada” and creating a “national political movement.”
Shortly after the Ontario Special Investigations Unit revealed the identity of the Danforth shooter as 29-year-old Faisal Hussain, a news release was sent out to select media attributed to the “Hussain Family”.
The polished statement began with the family’s “deepest condolences to the families who are now suffering on account of our son’s horrific actions.” It then went on to explain that “our son had severe mental health challenges, struggling with psychosis and depression his entire life.”
It was provided by Mohammed Hashim, a full-time organizer for the Toronto & York Region Labour Council. Social media accounts belonging to Hashim show him heavily involved in supporting NDP candidates both federally and provincially in Ontario. He’s also described as a driving force behind the National Council of Canadian Muslims.

bio from the 2017 Muslim Awards of Excellence continues this description of Hashim as something of spin doctor, noting that “his talking points and media advocacy are changing how Muslims are seen in the Canadian identity.”…

Fox News reporting this morning that ISIS has claimed he was one of theirs but they provide no proof. Interestingly it was in 2010 that Hussain was investigated under the Mental Health Act for his threats against his old school:

In Canada a background check for handguns (immediate talk of Trudeau considering banning them) goes back five years.

This Jihadist certainly posted in support of ISIS. Whether he was a “card-carrying member” with any direct links or not, he was acting on their aims.

How is it that there was such a beautifully written explanation
allegedly written from the family almost at the same time the name of
the murderer was released?
How is it that a Muslim Brotherhood front organization immediately
promoted that it was opening a victims family crowd-sourcing?
How did a man with a history of mental illness managed to get a firearms
licence?
How is it he developed the proficiency with guns that he displayed
during the event?
How is it a US source is reporting that he had a history of accessing
Jihadi/Islamist social media sites?
Now– See this:

I thought the letter was too well written to be composed by a muslim from Iran…I doubted the father wrote it.

  • MTMLA
    Just to clarify:
The dead jihadist’s family is from Pakistan and this Mohammed Hashim ‘spin doctor’
is also a South Asian, there is nobody from Iran involved this story!

Flip-Flop Mayor Tory uses Greektown shooting to push gun control

The NCCM received $25 million odd canadian tax dollars to combat islamophobia.
An NCCM/MSA/MB alumnus, one Iqra Khalid, a liberal diversity MP with an islamist pedigree in the MB announced this little footnote.
Shocked? How about $$ Half a billion given to Hama$ by the federal regime of justin in 2017?
Some fun facts about the NCCM.

Mohammed Hashim is a “full-time organizer”. ‘Progressive organizing in the Muslim communities’ is theof his workshop.
Barack Hussein Obama was a “community organiser”.
Community organizers are urged in “Rules for Radicals”,by Saul Alinsky, on whom Hillary Clinton wrote her thesis.
Alinsky dedicated his book to Lucifer.

Points to a pre-planned strategy of rushing out a family claim of mental health problems of the shooter as soon as the jihadist angle hit the headlines. This has been happening elsewhere, but how long before a jaundiced public will recognize it as spin?

You can put the “mental illness” excuse to rest because ISIS has claimed responsibility for the shooting on the Danforth.

ISIS has claimed responsibility but, as we can see with this MSM report from Global News…..even ISIS’s claims are now suspect. How convenient. Expect the same from CBC and CTV.
More spin from the MB. Blaming ISIS’s hard-line Islamist stance is just another example of Islamophobia, dontcha know. The 33,000+ jihad attacks since 9/11 are all cases of mental illness, right? They don’t represent peaceful Islam at all…..
Blind diversity will be our downfall.

The fact that an employee of the NCCM wrote the ridiculous mental health excuse is all you need to know.
The West has a soft spot for “mental illness”. It’s one of the causes-du-jour, and so it’s exploited. Kind of a slap in the face to those truly suffering from various forms of the affliction. No matter. The ends justifies the means.
But I DO agree with Hashim in an ironic way. The doctrine of jihad-martyrdom IS a manifestation of insanity.
Blind, gullible, ignorant diversity will be our downfall.
But hey…the Libs and NDP need voters. They’ve put their power ahead of the safety of Canadians….to point of using our MSM as their propaganda peddlers.
MSM journalism is dead in the West. They’re just brainwashed regurgitators for the Progressive/Radical Left.

Here in Toronto, the silence of the truth is very scary….WAKE UP TORONTO
THIS WILL NOT BE THE LAST OCCURRENCE OF TERRORISTS TRYING TO UNDERMINE OUR SOCIETY….

Toronto jihad murderer’s neighbors unaware of his “mental illness”
By Robert Spencer on Jul 24, 2018 08:52 am

This is odd. His family’s statement said: “Our son had severe mental health challenges, struggling with psychosis and depression his entire life….While we did our best to seek help for him throughout his life of struggle and pain, we could never imagine that this would be his devastating and destructive end.” One would think that […]

Read in browser » , but no, they had no inkling that anything was amiss with Faisal Hussain. Now, why is that?“Toronto shooter’s neighbors unaware of his mental illness,” Associated Press, July 24, 2018: TORONTO (AP) — Ashley Robinson saw Faisal Hussain almost every day when she walked her dog on the winding sidewalk near her high-rise apartment building in Toronto.

“He always was smiling,” she said, adding they lived in the same building in Thorncliffe Park, a 21-story gray building that’s home to immigrants and Canadians alike.

Authorities are investigating Hussain’s motive, but there had been no social media posts, no angry online revelations, no rambling videos….  . He was very upbeat and happy whenever I saw him,” Sukhera said, adding that Hussain “seemed fine.”…

COMMENTS:

All you reporters out there……..simply ask the police how many times was Hussain apprehended under Mental Health legislation and if he was, ask how many times was he actually admitted for psychiatric care.

I suspect that the mental illness angle maybe a red herring.

He suffered psychosis and depression his entire life…What symptoms of psychosis did he display and who diagnosed him? The family is covering up…

how, with his alleged long track record of mental illness, he was in possession of a handgun. How did he he acquire it?

Hussain was ‘cheerful’ … so how could his radicalization be spotted? This shows no Muslim may be trusted. Any ‘nice’ Muslim may be hiding his JIHADISM.

“He had a million-dollar smile. He was very upbeat and happy whenever I saw him,” said a Muslim neighbor.

Even Muslims don’t know who is a jihadist and who isn’t.
It took 20 whole hours before we were allowed to know the suspect’s name, likely because it didn’t fit the Liberal narrative. (It would have been so much more convenient if it were a “far-right” name like Bubba). Then, the parents wanted us to believe that this poor guy was psychotic and depressed all of his life. Now, we find out that, yes, indeed, it was a Muslim name, that he was “always smiling”, that people were unaware of his mental illness, that he was into jihad. The truth has really spoiled the Liberal narrative. Even they can’t spin this forever.

Christie Blatchford: Who is Faisal Hussain, the man behind the Toronto mass shooting? It's complicated  If the truth is out there, and it may not be, it probably lies as it often does in the murky middle Christie Blatchford July 24, 2018 he National Post has learned that Toronto Police files show little evidence of the typical history of a person with a florid mental illness such as “psychosis,” as his family said. ...  senior police source, while cautioning that this doesn’t mean Hussain wasn’t mentally ill, said that often with such people, there are frequent encounters with police — calls from the family for help, suicide attempts or committals to hospital under the Mental Health Act.  With Hussain, the source said, “we have very little of that.” ....Similarly, neither did Hussain have a serious criminal record, nor any significant affiliation with the gangs — some of Afghan background, according to both police and at least one publicly available federal Immigration and Refugee Board case that saw a hard-core gangbanger ordered deported because of criminality — in his Thorncliffe Park neighbourhood...Hussain remained on the periphery of gang life — well-connected enough to get his hands on an illegal handgun (the weapon he used was illegal and he had no Possession and Acquisition Licence), but either he was not in sufficiently deep that he acquired a serious record or he was lucky enough to avoid it...  CBS News was reporting all day Tuesday that “investigators in Canada” were digging into “indications” suggesting Hussain may have visited and even expressed support for Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) websites, though, the story said, there was no indication he’d been directed to carry out the attack... All that was smartly batted away by federal Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale, the minister responsible for counter-terrorism in Canada, who said Tuesday that at this stage of the investigation, “there is no connection between that individual and national security.”..
As the police source told the Post, “Is he Muslim? Yes. Does he probably know Muslim extremists? Yeah. Is he mentally ill? Yeah, probably. Does he have access to guns from the guys in his neighbourhood? Yeah. But be real careful what road you go down. We may never know what was going on in his mind.”

Toronto Shooting: Politically Correct Cover-Up?
by Tom Quiggin
August 14, 2018
https://www.gatestoneinstitute.org/12831/toronto-shooting-cover-up

The Hussain "family statement" was not written by the murderer's parents at all, but rather by Mohammed Hashim, a professional activist connected with the National Council of Canadian Muslims. Its American parent organization, as stated in its own documents, is CAIR, designated as a terrorist entity by the United Arab Emirates.

Contrary to what Hashim purportedly wrote in the statement, there is no evidence that Hussain was diagnosed with or treated for a mental illness, even after one of his high-school teachers reported to the police 10 years ago that Hussain had said "I want to kill someone... I just feel it would be really cool to kill somebody
