1 killed 0 bystanders August 11, 2014 Motorhome Careens Down Steps at U Washington Tacoma Campus In Tacoma, Washington the 65-year-old unnamed driver was killed when she sped downhill on 19th street shouted for help then drove into and over the staircase that runs down the hill through the heart of the University of Washington Tacoma campus. The News Tribune reported 65-year-old Peggy Wilby was being followed by her daughter and said she was trying to pull over because the brakes weren't working after driving down to buy the camper in Tacoma. Investigators believe the vehicle experienced a mechanical problem as there were no indications the driver could stop it. No pedestrians were hit in the crash. The driver picked up enough speed picked up speed to demolish the protective concrete barrier and a large planter designed to protect against amok vehicles. A bill of sale was found in the wreckage stating that the motor home should be towed and not safe to drive.

Alternative theory - this unfortunate accident looks vaguely like a dry run attack on college students with mechanical problems as a cover story. A car vehicle was driven into a pedestrian parkway for what reason, she could not stop or steer? This is another instance of vehicle apparently gathering enough speed to defeat anti-vehicle barriers that protect pedestrians, another is the Dicks Sporting goods store where a driver drove through the bullard posts into the store. A bill of sale deliberately left in the vehicle saying it was not safe to drive sounds like part of a constructed cover story to explain the amok camper.
