1 killed 2 suspects wounded July 30, 2014   Mendota Heights Minnesota police officer killed  Mendota Heights police officer Thomas Patrick was shot to death in West St. Paul on a routine traffic stop. After an 8 hour manhunt, police tracked down wanted career criminal Brian G. Fitch Sr who was driving with a woman. As an officer found Fitch and got out, Fitch started a gun battle and Fitch was hit several times, and the woman was also wounded.

1 killed in suspected DUI suspended licence rear-end crash by man on probation who made terroristic threats and joked about damage July 22, 2014 Michael J. Vanwagner DUI Rear End Killing Brooklyn Center Teen The car of Jason F. McCarthy, of Brooklyn Center was struck by Michael J. Vanwagner, 24, of Coon Rapids and later died in the hospital. Vanwagner sideswiped one vehicle, fled then rear ended McCarthy, totaling both cars. Vanwagner made a laughing post of damage to his car and denied knowing he had hit someone. He was driving on a revoked license because of careless driving, twice driving after having his license suspended and driving without insurance. Vanwagner is on probation for a felony conviction in April for terroristic threats and must abstain from drinking.

1 Asian professor killed, 2 black suspects under supervision arrested July 23, 2014 Murder of UNC-Chapel Hill professor Feng Liu UNC-Chapel Hill professor Feng Liu died after being mugged by 2 men who hit him with a rock after a "botched robbery". Lui was a research professor at UNC’s Eshelman School of Pharmacy. Arrested were Derick Davis II and Troy Arrington Jr., both with extensive criminal history. Student body president Eve Carson was kidnapped, robbed and murdered in 2008, and one of her killers is on trial in the killing of Duke University student Abhijit Mahato in January 2008.
