Blowtorch Incidents

LA Bridge Collapses After Accidentally Set Afire By Blowtorch

A worker was "suspected" of "accidentally" setting the wood on a bridge on fire, collapsing a football sized $32M project, and snarling a key artery out of the LA area. It's comparable to the loss of the bridge over Interstate 5 in Washington when a truck nicked the top of a bridge and caused it to fall, and would be a lucrative target for sabotage if there were some way to have staged it to look like an accident. The worker has not been identified or charged.

A Lot Of Blowtorch "Accidents"

There are a number of blowtorch "accidents" that end up with massive destruction, some with workers who are never identified or flee the scene.

A huge dormitory under construction at Washington State University in Pullman was deliberately set by a plumbing intern who worked at the site who turned out to be a serial arsonist who did it because "voices" told him to do something bad.

Boston fire that killed firefighters was set by workers who accidentally set a fire and then left the scene

July 14, 2013  Arrest In Massive $13M WSU Dorm Fire No Motive In Pullman Washington, Bryan Lee Kitchen, 31 arrested July 22 in connection with a massive July 14th fire at Washington State University which in which explosions from propane tanks destroyed four buildings at the nearly finished Grove $13M dormitory complex and clubhouse and several vehicles. Kitchen eventually admitted setting the fire, but stated it was because voices in his head told him to do bad things.  He was a WSU student as recently as 2005, but did not graduate. He has been linked to 6 arsons of cars, garages and sheds going back to 2004, and there were 4 WSU arson fires unsolved. On September 11, his trial was to be delayed until 2014.

April 13, 2012  At a Naperville CA indoor skydiving facility work site, a worker got a blowtorch got too close to a box full of spray paint which exploded. Nobody was hurt, and there was not much damage but the explosion and flames were spectacular.

Roofers Fled After Chicago Strip Mall Fire  November 15, 2013  In Chicago police bomb and arson investigators never found the roofers they believe used torches which started a massive fire which destroyed 3 stores at a Chicago strip mall. There was a "catastrophic collapse of the roof and walls. There have been previous incidents in Chicago where roofers have fled after starting fires.

January 24, 2007 Shopping Center Fire in East Las Vegas ruled accidental - workers were using a blowtorch to install a kitchen exhaust duct, which started a fire in the attic.  Caused $1.2M in damage. Could they be doing a real job as a cover story AND start a fire?
