February 12, 2013 Guam Tumon stabbings and car rampage In Tumon, Guam's tourism district 21-year-old Chad Ryan Desoto started revving his engine of his his blue Toyota Yaris, and drove onto the sidewalk, mowing down two Japanese couples and then another 300 yards through a crowd of tourists. He crashed into a store and started stabbing people, killing 3 and injuring 11 others, including an 8-month-old infant and a three year old toddler. Gov. Eddie Calvo reached out to the Japanese Consulate to help victims’ families. A 28-year-old woman and an elderly 82-year-old woman died from stab wounds. Desoto was a local actor who told police he wanted to injure as many people as possible, but no motive was established. The attack echoed the Akihabara massacre where a truck ran over people and the driver ran out to stab the crowd. In August 2014, he found guilty in the attacks.

August 4, 2014 Chad Ryan De Soto of Guam Guilty Of Vehicle, Stabbing Japanese Tourists  Guam man Chad Ryan De Soto pled not guilty by insanity, but was found guilty of killing three Japanese tourists and injuring 11 more during a frenzied knife attack in the Pacific island nation last year. He potentially faces 14 life sentences without the prospect of parole. He never explained his motive for the night attack on February 12, 2013 when he drove into a crowd in the tourist district of Tumon and then attacked bystanders at random with a knife in each hand.

Alternative Conspiracy Theory: a terrorist attack on Japanese tourists staged as an accident or attack by mentally unstable person.

Not sure how many Japanese will agree on the assurance that Guam is just as safe as it has been with this recent tragedy happening - Not sure Id jump to agree either. Seems like a stretch of the truth - just had 14 people stabbed and two killed and you expect us to believe its just as safe as it was? Maybe if this incident didnt occur Id whole heartedly agree with that statement but recent actions prudently dictate otherwise.

He should be brought to justice and spend the rest of his life in prison. May God have mercy on his soul.

iseeyou I felt sorry about what had happened this morning to those tourist that are just here to enjoy our beautiful and quite island but to the guy that did this horrible act i am angry at first. But when i came home something telling me to be reasonable to this unreasonable action. Know, first of all, the reason or the root of the problem. Don't kill him right away. We can't place a solution in the future if this situation comes again. No one in his rightful mind can do this horrible thing unless he is influence by some factors that derail his decision to act like he did. Check prohibited drug if this was the cause, then if it is, my suggestion to it is place death penalty to the drug lords and his cohorts in this island. He became a victim of those elements of Satan. This is just an example. What i see is that everyone is a victim of a victim. To me, let us beware of last times.

SENATORS: Somebody please draft a bill that states anyone who attempts/commits a "mass murder" or anyone who commits/attempts a "killing spree" (however you want to word it) commits a Federal crime and must be charged in Federal court. That way the follies of Guam AG's office and Judges will be bypassed and the perpetrator will get the harshest punishment possible. If not that then at least set a substantial mandatory minimum sentence (as in most, if not all, of their life.) But then you have to worry about our Judges and AG's office actually complying since we all know they cannot be trusted to serve justice properly.

I agree with u frog. this was a premeditated act with the intent of killing as many innocent people as possible....man, women and children. I wish to god this island could implement the death penalty i think all peaceful resolutions went out the door when he decided to attack a child. even ghandi would agree with the proverb an eye for an eye. props the bystanders who risked their lives and took action.

@Frogman It is understandable that you feel as if having an equally brutal punishment for this man is befitting, but showing this man the same animosity he had towards the community will only place us on the same level, if not lower, as he is. Encouraging bodily harm & more acts of violence towards this man is not the answer, though vengeance may seem like the most logical solution, would that make the situation better? We should be praying & mourning for the victims of his rampage instead of wishing an ill-fate for him. Why focus on retaliation when we could be focusing on the emotionally/mentally distraught part of our populace and extending a helping hand to them? I am not condoning his actions & i am not belittling the tragedy, I am simply saying that there are bigger issues that we, as a community, should be focusing that could prevent anymore of these heinous crimes in the future.
