Nov 7, 2013 An SUV either lost control or deliberately steered into opposing traffic and onto a sidewalk before crashing into a bus shelter critically striking two people. The driver who fled with a small child was identified and contacted by police as Pedro Velasquez of Cudahy, but did not turn himself in.

Officials sought the public’s help Thursday in tracking down a Cudahy man accused of abandoning his SUV and running after crashing into a Whittier Boulevard bust stop and seriously injuring two pedestrians, leaving one of them pinned beneath the vehicle.
Pedro Velasquez was believed to be behind the wheel of a white GMC Yukon involved in Wednesday’s 5:18 p.m. crash at Whittier and Atlantic Boulevards, California Highway Patrol officials said. His age was not available.
