Bridget Pegues had no idea the man knocking on her door Tuesday morning was a wanted fugitive.
To Pegues, who was home with her 19-year-old daughter and 3-week-old grandson, Aaron Dumas was an old friend stopping by to visit.
She learned about his dark side a few hours later, when police knocked on her door at 1383 Worthington and escorted her out.
That began a dramatic standoff that ended hours later with two officers wounded and Dumas lying dead in the ashes of Pegues’ destroyed home.
“I didn’t know anything about anything that was going on until it all happened,” said Pegues, who spent her teen years in that home and later bought it from her parents. “I thought he was a calm, cool, collected person. I didn’t know anything about his criminal background.
