About Boko Haram

About Boko Haram

Nigerian branch of Al Qaeda is trained in Iran and by the Taliban in Afghanistan to attack, massacre, and kidnap christians, churches, mainstream muslims, schools, colleges and general mayhem in the name of religion. With over 3,000 casualties of over 20 nations to their credit, they rank in the top 5 most lethal terrorist organizations in the world.

Americans are clueless to the motives behind attacks on colleges in the US like Santa Monica College Virginia Tech, Sandy Hook and attacks on churches / pastors in the US by crazy people. But the motives are clear for Boko Haram which do exactly these things not because they are crazy or lack of gun control but because they are at war:

Topics
  • Al Qaeda affiliation
  • Colleges - killed over 50 in military attack on agricultural college in 2013
  • Christians - multiple attacks on churchs and christians. No crazy gunmen, it's simply war.
  • Churches
  • Iran supported / trained "we take about 20 people to Iran for special training because our zonal headquarters is in Iran" and directly trained Abdullahi Mustapha Berende who was arrested as a spy trained in Iran.
  • Kidnap christian girls - Christian girls under 18 are abducted and forced to convert to Islam and kept in the homes of radical religious leaders,
  • Muslims (mainstream)
  • North is much poorer than the south Nigeria
  • Numbers thought just 300 hard core members but can mobilize thousands
  • Ranking With 3,000 casualties affecting citizens from a dozen countries in three years, Boko Haram has earned a dubious distinction as one of the top five lethal terrorist organizations in the world
  • Schools - killed 70 teachers and destroyed 50 schools, killed 170 in school attacks. (8/2012): set more than a dozen schools on fire,...  attacked, damaged, and, in a few cases, destroyed at least 12 schools in and around Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State
  • Shia  Abdullahi Mustapha Berende (not Boko Haram) arrested for traveling to Iran for terrorist training
  • Suicide bombing - trained by taliban
  • Sunni - Sunni Islamist group Boko Haram makes headlines in Nigeria, a Shia group is also causing anxiety in some quarters

Yobe school killings: Another Boko Haram slaughter, this time of children (+video)

After self-styled Islamists murder a reported 42 children and teachers at a boarding school in Yobe, Nigeria, a local governor calls off school until September.

By Gillian ParkerCorrespondent / July 8, 2013 Following an attack on a boarding school that killed 42 children and teachers, the governor ofNigeria’s northeastern Yobe state has directed that all secondary schools be closed starting today until they convene in September for the new academic year.  The Saturday pre-dawn attack on the school saw gunmen – believed to be Boko Haram Islamist insurgents – set fire to the building and shooting pupils as they tried to flee. Survivors of the attack are being treated for gunshot wounds and burns.
This marks the third attack on schools in recent weeks, including two in Yobe. On June 19, unknown gunmen attacked a secondary school in the Customs area of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State and the epicenter of a four-year Islamist insurgency. Four teachers and two students were reportedly killed in the raid.

  1. Yusuf , was killed in police custody in 2009. His former deputy, Abubakar bin Mohammad Shekau, now leads the organization.

Nearly 1,000 Nigerian Christians were killed in 2012, and more than 100 have died in the first few months of 2013, according to Jubilee Campaign. Executive director Ann Buwalda says this accounts for "almost 70 percent of Christians killed globally" last year, making Nigeria "the most lethal country for Christians by a huge margin."

    By Ghana News -SpyGhana.com:
“I joined the Bafarawa Arabic Islamic Centre in 2010 and they were teaching us Arabic language.Every year, we take about 20 people to Iran for special training because our zonal headquarters is in Iran. Our own group is called sh*tte but we have the same agenda with the Boko Haram sect. You people have only been hearing of Boko Haram, but there are other deadly Islamic groups that are also part of Boko Haram sect. I can count up to six of them that I’m very much aware of.
Whenever we heard that any of the sects was fighting Christians, we always joined them. My own group has been an Islamic movement for a long time, even before I was born. It reigned in the north during the Abacha military regime and it has many branches in the north. We are in major northern states such as Kastina, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kano, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Zaria among others.
Sometimes, when we want to wreak havoc on Christians, we hire our own bus because we have our own weapons, which we use against the Christians. We usually join the Boko Haram sect whenever they wanted to fight the Christians or the soldiers because we usually hear that soldiers kill our Boko Haram brothers in Maiduguri, Yobe and Potiskum.

Boko Haram: Iran Linked to Confessed Terrorist Planning Attacks on US, Israeli Targets in Lagos
      Created on Thursday, 21 February 2013 10:43
      •US, Israeli interests targeted

      •Ambassador summoned over espionage allegation

Three persons, including the leader of an Islamic sect based in Ilorin, Kwara State, are in the custody of the Department of State Security Services (SSS) over a plot to assassinate former military president, Gen. Ibrahim Babangida.

Other targets of the group included a former Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki, who is the father of the National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd), as well as American and Israelis targets in Nigeria.

The leader of the group, Abdullahi Mustapha Berende, and two others were paraded yesterday in Abuja by the SSS. The fourth member of the group is on the run.

The Islamic leader, along with three of his accomplices, were said to be collaborating with some unnamed Iranians, known to be operating a high profile international terrorist network, to carry out the killings.

Berende relocated from Ilorin to Lagos and planned to expand his tentacles to other South-west states.

The suspects were also said to have been plotting against and spying on Americans, Israelis and some other Western countries’ interests in the country and had plotted to attack such facilities.

THISDAY gathered that the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Olugbenga Ashiru, yesterday summoned the Iranian Ambassador to Nigeria, Saeed Koozechi, over the allegation that his country is involved in espionage in Nigeria.

Briefing reporters on the arrest of the suspects, SSS Deputy Director (Public Relations), Mrs. Marilyn Ogar, explained that for six months, the service had been on the trail of the group to determine their probable course of action and to stop them from executing their plans.

According to Ogar, “It was observed that Berende was a local leader of the Shiite sect in Ilorin and was observed to have made several suspicious trips to and from Iran where he interacted with some Iranian elements known to operate a high profile international terrorist network.

“In the course of interrogation, Berende confessed that in 2006, he gained admission to study a six-month course in Modern Shi’a Islamic Teaching (Da’awa) at Imam Khomeni University, Iran.

“He was recruited by some Iranian elements when he returned to Iran for further studies in 2011 and was subsequently trained on the use of AK-47 assault rifle, pistols, production and detonation of Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

“After he returned to Nigeria, he was invited by his handlers to Dubai for further briefing in April 2012 and was tasked to establish a terrorist cell in the South-western part of Nigeria with a particular emphasis on Lagos.

“His Iranian sponsors requested that he identifies and gathers intelligence on public and prominent hotels frequented by Americans and Israelis to facilitate attacks.  He was also to provide specific details on the following targets: USAID, Max, Zim Intercontinental Shipping Company, A. A. Consulting, Peace Corps and Jewish Cultural Centre (Chabad) in Lagos.

“He was tasked to provide the names of prominent Nigerians who if attacked could unsettle the West and he gave the names of Ibrahim Babangida and Ibrahim Dasuki as targets of attack to his Iranian handlers.”

Ogar further disclosed that Lagos was chosen as the preferred base because “the sponsors believed that the Israelis have an intelligence facility there that is used in spying on Iran and his lieutenants (Sulaiman Olayinka Saka and Saheed Aderemi Adewumi as well as Bunyamin Yusuf, who is at large) have successfully conducted surveillance and gathered relevant data on the above mentioned targets preparatory to possible attacks”.

She added that Berende had taken photographs of the Israeli Cultural Centre in Ikoyi, Lagos that he had sent to his handlers and was given $24,000 and 3,500 euro to facilitate his trips to Iran, establish petty business, which would serve as decoy, and to relocate his family from Ilorin to Lagos.

Berende, who looked forlorn and moody when he was brought before press men, admitted having carried out the acts, but pleaded for forgiveness and leniency.

He said: “I regret what happened. It is embarrassing to everyone around me and me. I still plead for forgiveness; the whole nation and my family should forgive me and I really regret my actions.  When people who are not known to you display friendship, one should be careful because you may not know the person’s motives.  There are people out there hunting for people to exploit and use to achieve their objectives.  I regret that despite my academic background, I still fell prey to this kind of thing.”

A source said yesterday that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Iranian ambassador to respond to allegations that his country was carrying out espionage activities in Nigeria.

It was learnt that Ashiru, at the meeting with Koozechi, registered Nigeria’s strong displeasure about the activities of some Iranians involved in espionage activities in the country.

“Some Iranians are involved in espionage here, they are using some Nigerians and Iran is supposed to be a friendly country, so what is happening? The Ambassador was invited, that we can confirm,” the source said.

He added that although the ministry was not aware of the existence of the list of Iranian targets in Nigeria, it was not assuming that the list did not exist.

Buwalda and human rights attorney Emmanuel Ogebe wrote:
With 3,000 casualties affecting citizens from a dozen countries in three years, Boko Haram has earned a dubious distinction as one of the top five lethal terrorist organizations in the world. In the last three years, however, the three most deadly incidents of anti-Christian persecution–with triple-digit casualties–in Nigeria were the March 7, 2010 massacre in Jos, Plateau state, the April 16, 2011 pogrom in the country's sharia (Islamic law) states and the Jan. 20, 2012 onslaught in Kano. Two out of these three incidents were not the handiwork of terrorists but of average northern Nigerian Muslims.

    .Schools

“We believed there were so many things wrong with the present arrangement of combining tradition with religion and on one man.
“The plans to attack churches and schools were not a reaction to any provocation. The plans had been there. You know why the churches had to go. Those schools, for instance, were not teaching the children, according to ways of our faith.
“These were part of our initial plans of allowing only Islamic schools and wiping away the so-called secular schools. Though a lot of us who had gone to school saw this approach as too rigid since we could use the medium to propagate the faith faster, but we were few and equally scared of being labelled traitors to face the ultimate consequence. We wanted to reform the schools to conform to our practice.
“On the traditional institution, any ruler that would have obstructed our plans would have regretted his action.”
Boko Haram has set more than a dozen schools on fire, Human Rights Watch said yesterday. (8/2012) Since the beginning of this year, suspected Boko Haram members have attacked, damaged, and, in a few cases, destroyed at least 12 schools in and around Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, temporarily leaving several thousand children without access to education.
“Boko Haram’s attacks on schools represent a new and reprehensible development since the group began its campaign of violence in 2009,” said Zama Coursen-Neff, deputy children’s rights director at Human Rights Watch. “Children and educational institutions should be left alone, full stop.”

.Shia  Abdullahi Mustapha Berende (not Boko Haram) traveled to Iran for terrorist training

    http://www.voanews.com/content/reu-nigerians-charged-with-aiding-iran-militant-cell/1739086.html
Traveled to Tehran and Dubai- The secret service [SSS] arrested Abdullahi Mustapha Berende and Saheed Oluremi Adewumi, plus one other Nigerian, in February.

Nigerian authorities are growing concerned about an apparent surge in interest in the West African country by Shi'ite Muslim militant groups with links to Iran or Lebanon. Three Lebanese have been in court over an alleged Hezbollah plot since June.

Although the threat pales in comparison to Sunni Islamist groups like al-Qaida or Nigerian outfit Boko Haram, recent cases have raised alarm. Berende is accused of traveling to Iran to help with “material assistance and terrorist training... in the use of fire arms, explosives and other related weapons.” He also is accused of knowing about spying on two Israeli targets in Lagos - the Chabad Lubavitch Jewish center and the Lagos branch of AA Consulting - but failing to alert police.

    .Taliban

Boko Haram has their men trained in Afganistan. I don’t know if you have been hearing about the Taliban, those who sacrifice their lives through suicide bombing. The Talibans are the ones who are training Boko Haram men. I know Boko Haram usually have about 60 men who go for training in Afganistan. They train them on how to go on suicide bombing, make their own bombs and fight and do other dangerous things. They also provide them with sophisticated weapons such as bombs and all that.
