Jeremy Corbyn: no 'credible evidence' of Iran role in tanker attacks  Labour leader urges UK to ease tensions in Gulf after Foreign Office links blasts to Tehran Sat 15 Jun 2019 Jeremy Corbyn has called for the government to abstain from escalating tensions with Iran without “credible evidence” that Tehran was responsible for attacks on two oil tankers.  The Labour leader said Britain risked increasing the threat of war after the Foreign Office (FCO) said it was “almost certain” in its assessment that “a branch of the Iranian military … attacked the two tankers on 13 June”.

US must end false flag operations in region: Iran UN mission June 14, 201 9International-Mehr News Agency   TEHRAN, Jun. 14 (MNA) – Following US’ unfounded accusations against Iran regarding the attack on two oil tankers in the Sea of Oman, the Iranian mission to the UN has called on US and regional allies to stop false flag operations in the region.

"The inflammatory remarks by the US representative against Iran at the UN Security Council on 13 June 2019 was another Iranophobic campaign. Iran categorically rejects the US' unfounded claim with regard to 13 June oil tanker incidents and condemns it in the strongest possible terms," said the Iranian mission to the UN in a statement on Thursday.

On Thursday morning, two oil tankers – one sailing under a Panama flag and owned by Japan and another bearing the Marshall Islands’ ensign – were hit by yet unspecified accidents in the Sea of Oman. Iranian rescuers rushed to the assistance, transferring all of their 44 crew members to Iran's southern shores.

Following the attack, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo accused Iran of carrying out the attacks without providing any evidence to back up his accusation.

In a statement on Thursday, the Iranian mission to the UN strongly rejected the “unfounded” US claims, warning of "another Iranophobic campaign" being waged by Washington and its allies.

"Neither fabrications and disinformation campaigns nor shamelessly blaming others can change the realities. The US and its regional allies must stop warmongering and put an end to mischievous plots as well as false flag operations in the region. Warning, once again, about all of the US coercion, intimidation, and malign behavior, Iran expresses concern over suspicious incidents for the oil tankers that occurred today," the statement added, according to Press TV.

Referring to Washington's sanctions against Tehran following the former's unilateral withdrawal from the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement, the statement said, "The US economic war and terrorism against the Iranian people as well as its massive military presence in the region have been and continue to be the main sources of insecurity and instability in the wider Persian Gulf region and the most significant threat to its peace and security."

Iran strongly rejected National Security Advisor John Bolton’s claims that it was “almost certainly” behind the May 12 attacks on four oil tankers in UAE waters, calling the unevidenced accusation “ridiculous.”
While Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Mousavi mocked the allegations against his country, he noted that it was unsurprising that Bolton would make them at a press conference in the United Arab Emirates, a country who has developed a rivalry with Iran.

Bolton said the attacks on the tankers came from “naval mines almost certainly from Iran,” his less than convincing argument being “Who else would you think would be doing it? Someone from Nepal?”

One of the oil tankers damaged in the May 12 attacks had belonged to the UAE, making Bolton's comments particularly sharp. While the UAE at first denied the attack had taken place altogether, they later attributed the commercial vessels had been targeted by “sabotage operations,” although they have not specifically faulted Iran.

Fetzer said the move intended to deceive the world about Iran. “Clearly this is a set-up. The whole world must appreciate that this is not Iran’s doing. He insisted that Iranians are peace-loving people.  “ Iran is a peace loving nation that has not launched a war of aggression against any other state since 1775,” he noted.
