August 22, 2017 Police Shooting of  Kenneth "Kiwi" Herring  Kenny Herring was angered by his neighbor’s barbecue fire St. Louis. Kristy Lynn Thompson, Kenny’s wife, handed him a large butcher knife, Kenny inflicted on his neighbor stab wounds on his face and torso, and defensive wounds on his arms, and pierced his left lung.  When waved the knife around and stabbed an officer in the arm he was shot and killed. Thompson was arrested and charged with assault and criminal action. Aug 23, Herring was honored at a vigil by LGBT groups for the transgender woman born as a man but identified a woman authorities say was shot and killed by police after stabbing an officer. born a man but identified as a woman....  100 people attended the candlelight event and several staged a protest march down Vandeventer afterward. At one point, a car drove through the march, causing minor injuries.

st. Louis dispatch:  description of the stabbing by police seemed out of character for Herring. “If you needed anything from Kiwi, she would give it to you,” Jones said. “She’d see my kids outside playing and she’d hand out popsicles, have barbecues, all that.”
