May 18, 2017 2017 Times Square car rampage a car driven by Richard Rojas accelerated into a deliberate u-turn to drive wrong way crashed in Times Square, New York City. One person was killed and 20 were injured. Rojas was charged with second degree murder, five counts of aggravated vehicular homicide and 20 attempted murders. A preliminary investigation found no evidence that the crash was an act of terrorism. After being detained, Rojas, a military veteran, was found to have ingested phencyclidine before the crash. When interviewed by the NYPD, he said he wanted to die by suicide by cop, and that he had been hearing voices.
Alternative theory: Initially blamed on driver's drunk driving history, he is obviously lying when he says it is because he wanted to commit suicide by cop, god or voices told him to kill people, or because he took drugs. He was in perfect control of the car, not driving erratically all the way until Times Square which has been hit by previous bombing attacks and plots

Two street vendors alerted New York City security personnel after they spotted smoke coming from a vehicle, and a car bomb was discovered. The bomb had been ignited, but failed to explode, and was disarmed before it caused any casualties.Two days later, federal agents arrested Faisal Shahzad, a 30-year-old Pakistan-born resident of Bridgeport, Connecticut, who had become a U.S. citizen in April 2009. He was arrested after he had boarded Emirates Flight 202 to Dubai at John F. Kennedy International Airport. He admitted attempting the car bombing and said that he had trained at a Pakistani terrorist training camp, according to U.S. officials. United States Attorney General Eric Holder said that Shahzad's intent had been "to kill Americans." Shahzad was charged in federal court in Manhattan on May 4 with attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction and other federal crimes related to explosives. More than a dozen people were arrested by Pakistani officials in connection with the plot. Holder said the Pakistani Taliban directed the attack and may have financed it. October 5, 2010, Shahzad was sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to a 10-count indictment in June, including charges of conspiracy to use a weapon of mass destruction and attempting an act of terrorism.

2008 Times Square bombing - Wikipedia On the morning of March 6, 2008, an unknown individual placed a small bomb in front of a United States Armed Forces recruiting station in Times Square, Investigators have noted the similarities between the Times Square bombings and past bombings in New York. In 2005 an individual riding a bike threw a grenade in front of the British consulate. A similar incident occurred in front of the Mexican consulate, which also involved an individual throwing a grenade in front of the window. Like the Times Square bombing, both incidents took place in the early morning hours and involved a man riding a bicycle. Investigators have not linked the incidents.

In February 2008, four men attempted to cross the border into Canada from New York. While they were being questioned by Canadian border agents, one of the men fled from the car, getting away. He left behind a backpack, inside of which pictures of New York City locations were found, including pictures of the Times Square recruiting center. At the time of the incident U.S. authorities did not find any evidence of criminal activity. Investigators have not linked the bombing to the border incident. The men have been described as "anarchist types". A U.S. government official has stated he strongly doubts a link between the border incident and bombing will be found, noting that the recruiting center is in a prominent location in Times Square and would most likely appear in pictures taken at Times Square. (The two were charged today, along with a U.S. citizen–probably also a Muslim, with obstruction of justice and lying to police.) From the Times Square photos, including the ones below, it sure looked to me like they were there NOT as tourists but as fellow jihadist scouts seeking the best location and other details for bombing Times Square.
