Saturday January 25, 2014 Columbia Mall Shooting A shooting with a 12 guage shotgun at the Columbia Mall in Maryland results in 3 dead and 5 injured including the shooter later identified as 19 year old Darion Marcus Aguilar at 11:15 a.m. He arrived in a cab, about an hour before he walked into a small Zumiez skating shop and fired a shotgun at least half a dozen times, killing two people who worked there. Explosive devices were also found. His motive remains a mystery. Two Zumiez employees, 21-year-old Brianna Benlolo and 25-year-old Tyler Johnson were found shot dead There was speculation there could have beena domestic dispute between Benlolo, her boyfriend and an ex-boyfriend who fired the shots, but there now appears to be no connection

January 29, 2014 Suspect had written in his journal that he intended to kill people, apologized to his family for his plan, and said he thought he needed mental health treatment.

Reports indicate he expressed "general unhappiness with his life," an indication of depression, perhaps exacerbated by or brought on by drugs. He carried out the murders with a 12-gauge shotgun, had a large amount of ammunition and two homemade explosive devices inside a backpack.
Numerous reports indicate the killer was an animal rights activist. Ellis Cropper, a man who identified himself as a spokesman for the Aguilar family,told The New York Times that the murderer "stopped eating meat after watching a documentary on animal cruelty."
The Baltimore Sun added some more detail, quoting Cropper as saying, "He became a vegan last year or the year before after he saw a documentary on PBS and he saw how animals were slaughtered."
So he opposed slaughtering animals but believed in slaughtering humans.

3. He Had Crudely Made Fireworks Explosives Police report that ID'ing the shooter took a long amount of time because authorities discovered crudely fashion explosive devices inside the Aguilar's bag. The police neutralized the devices and reported that they were made from fireworks and other household items, reports CBS Baltimore. The bag was also filled with a lot of ammunition.
Aguilar graduated from James Hubert Black high school in 2013. The Post goes on to report that Aguilar was an employee at a Dunkin Donuts store and had been due to open the shop at the time of the shooting. A Darion Aguilar from Silver Spring, Maryland (where James Hubert Black high school is) had an online account with the outdoors/hiking site, All Trails. In 2009, at the age of 14, Aguilar ran the Marine Corps Marathon where he placed 4764 of 5480, but in the top 33% of his age-group.
