Al Qaeda Gunmen Kill Yemeni Troops At LNG Terminal

August 11, 2013: In Aden, Yemen suspected Al Qaeda militants killed for Yemeni soldiers who were guarding oil and gas projects in oil and gas projects in the Radhum region of Shabwa province including the nation's only liquified natural gas LNG terminal in southern Shabwa.

ADEN, Aug 11 (Reuters) - Suspected al Qaeda militants killed four Yemeni soldiers in their sleep early on Sunday in an attack on forces guarding the country's only liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal...campaign of drone strikes...warnings of militant attacks ..close embassies across the Middle East and evacuate some staff from Yemen.... gunmen infiltrated a checkpoint guarding the Balhaf LNG terminal in the southern Shabwa province, killed one soldier and then entered a cargo container where four more troops were sleeping and shot them dead.

  • Yemen LNG has denied reports that suspected Al Qaeda militants killed four Yemeni soldiers in their sleep early on Sunday in an attack on forces guarding its Balhaf LNG plant. the country's only liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal.
    However, Yemen LNG has confirmed that it was informed by Police Authorities that there was an incident involving the Army and local tribesmen that took place around 60 km from Balhaf on the road between Mukalla-Aden.

    The official said the attackers surprised the soldiers at their post guarding oil and gas projects in the Radhum area of Shabwa province.
    The ambush follows a two-week-long spike in drone strikes targeting Al Qaeda. Yemeni officials say nine attacks have killed 38 alleged militants.
